Shadow Unit Box Set (books 1 to 3)

I love these books! I bought the boxed set and inhaled this series. Tigris Eden combines snarky humor, sexy as sin Alpha males, fiesty "don't fuck with me" females, and the right amount of action, suspense, and angst. The series is one that is best read together, you could possible read it as a stand alone but the world and it's complications with the villains is so in grained in each book it is much better to read it as a series. But oh what a series it is. Awakened in Shadows is book four and is all about Dietrich and his mate Jorunn. Dietrich is hard to like but I couldn't help but like him. He's a real bastard sometimes, but that's the way he likes it not wanting to form attachments of any kind. He has been betrayed by so many and used and blackmailed that he is purposely crass, mean, selfish, and horrible. Jorunn is so unique that no one even knows what race she is. She hides her true self behind the facade of plain and unassuming; contacts over her iridescent color changing eyes and clothes to cover up from neck to foot to hide her tattoos. But none of that matters when Dietrich finally gets a good whiff of her scent no matter what he has done or what he will do can stop the landslide of their mating.

Unit has been searching for something to help stop the end of the world, or at least stopping the gods hitting the giant reset button. Finally they have a clue but they have to deal with one of the original, first generation demons he gives them the location to find what they need as long as they take his adoptive daughter. Jorunn has been told she is dying, and Unit has what she needs to be cured as long as they take her with them. Jorunn has had feeling for Dietrich and his attitude toward her is hot and cold. The truth of Jurunn history and ancestry, kind of made me roll my eyes thinking really you gonna go that way, but in truth it really worked out it fit in well with the rest of the books. Jorunn is great she's a perfect it for Dietrich and she makes him work for it.

“I’d like to be a part of this mission,” D said the words before he could stop them. Shaking his head to clear his brain, he stood back. Did he really just volunteer? He’d gotten what he needed. Now all he had to do was stick close to the club owner.
“You’re always a part of the missions. You’re transport,” Xee reminded as if he’d gone and lost his mind.
Shaking his head, he walked up to Xee, making sure she understood his intentions. He didn’t like the way Draven was eyeing him.
“I want to be on the ground for this one.”
The female’s eyes got big. Even Draven and Gabe’s eyebrows shot skyward.
“What?”
Xee tried placing her hand on his forehead, but he easily dodged her.
“You feeling okay?”
He was fine. It wasn’t like anyone truly cared either way. He stuck to his shit, they stuck to theirs.
“I’m good. I just want…” What the hell did he want? Oh, right, to get closer to Phineas, fuck Jorunn out of his system, and in the end, be one step closer to getting his sister back. Wait, what? Fuck Jorunn? No. Hell, no! That was not part of the plan. Dick says otherwise. His dick was fucking stupid. “I just want to ensure we get the Sahidic and tell Eremiel he can go fuck himself.” Yeah, you sound so convincing. He never bragged he was up for the next Academy Award. It was convincing enough, though.
“Well, fuck me and call me Sally. Dietrich is trying to be a model citizen.” Xee laughed.
“Is that an invite, girl?” he growled.
Xee knew him better than that. She was tied to Gabe, he knew, but he wanted to remind everyone listening that he was still a dick.
“Dude, seriously, sooo not my type,” Xee quipped back.
“You ain’t got a type, girl.”
Xee cracked a grin. “How do you figure that?”
Dietrich turned his attention to Gabe, who was standing with his arms crossed, trying his best to look badass. Draven quietly left, taking Faith with him. The wolf was probably going in search of his mate.
“You’re literally fucking Death,” he deadpanned.

ARC REVIEW Playing with Fire by Kate Meader

Playing with Fire book two in Kate Meader's Hot in Chicago series about the family at Engine no. 6. (Releases 9/29/15) I have been waiting for this one since the page where they were first introduced in Flirting with Fire. Alex and Eli were a powder keg ready to explode. Sexual tension that lasted through one book and a novella. This is a really good series and this book such a good read.

Alex has had share of tragedy and growing up in a family of mainly guys, then getting a job that is predominately guys she is strong physically but mentally it's wearing her out. She is tired of being alone and is actively looking for a steady relationship her only problem is that most of her dates don't get past the first date. Eli's past is no secret he even used it to his benefit in getting elected as Mayor. What everyone doesn't know is the truth about this father, it's a that he is trying to keep hidden. Only one other person knows, Sam Cochrane, and the Trump wannabe is basically blackmailing him so he can get past certain city restrictions.

They butted heads when they first meet, especially since Eli stuck his foot in his mouth when he said that women have no place working as a firefighters. It seemed like no matter how attracted they are to each other when ever they got near one another they would fight. But that all changed when Eli got stuck in a hotel fire and Alex was there to rescue him. Eli didn't make it easy and she risked her life even more when she took off her mask to give him air. They ended up saving each other. Eli finally admits to himself he has feelings for her and is scared to just ask her out. He uses this PR opportunity to date her and kinda blackmails her by saying Cochrane is threatening to sue her but he will stop it if she does the fake/not fake dates with him.

Alex begrudgingly accepts but the more time she spends with him the more she sees the real him and and likes him; and the more he becomes turned on by her sometimes inappropriate mouth. As much as Alex's brothers hate that she has gotten involved with Eli they admit she is a big girl and she can handle herself. Eli confides in Alex everything and it all falls apart. Eli knowing he screwed up is trying to prove to Alex just how much she means to him and that he is willing to risk everything for the truth.

Overall, this is a smoldering book of smexy, heartache, and romance. I can't wait for the next one.

ARC REVIEW Re-issue/New Cover: Pretty Poison by Lynne Baron

Pretty Poison has a new fabulous cover. I was lucky enough to get this book from Lynne Baron in exchange for an honest review. It was no hardship at all. I really love this book.

Pretty Poison isn't your typical romance. I loved it, I have never read another story like this. Lynne Barron has a talent for taking her Heroines and lowering them as far as they could go and then having them claw their way back up and a Hero that stands by them no matter what.

Emily Cavert is an American heiress who has burned her all her bridges with her tomboyish and scandalous ways her only hope of finding a suitable marriage is to go to England and make the match her aunt thinks is perfect for her. Emily was spoiled and she wasn't looking forward to what her father was forcing her to do on the way she got sick and was given laudanum. Unaware Emily slowly became addicted to the "pretty poison". The sallow, drugged version of herself is just a hollow version of her true self and doesn't make a good impression on Nicholas Avery. Nicholas has made no secret that he is need of an heiress, his father is set on making him a match with Emily but after a few meetings decides to look elsewhere.

Six months later Nicholas and his family are invited to a hunting party and he comes across a beautiful woman he mistakes as the stable masters daughter, so different from the girl he met in London he doesn't recognize Emily. Nicholas' love for Emily grows and grows in the passing days, even with the other heiress flaunting themselves at him he only has eyes for Emily. Emily is scared that he will be like every other man she has known and not loyal for this she tries to keep him at arms distance even more she is afraid of what he will think of her when he finds out about her addiction to opium.

Overall, I enjoyed this book so much, Lynne Barron really is a great story teller.

ARC REVIEW Under His Skin by Stacey O'Neale

Yea! a Sci-Fi Romance from Entangled Covet. Under His Skin is the start of Stacey O'Neale's Alien Encounter series. science fiction-wise it falls a little short of my expectations but the romance was nice. It had fantastic sexual tension and a little bit sweet. I love that Annabelle made her career on a reality cooking show, Cupcake Wars. I enjoyed the story but it really didn't stand out to me, I kinda hoped for more suspense and sci-fi.

Annabelle Sparks is in love with her best friend and has been since he first walked into her bakery but Kaden Chance has a secret that keeps him acting on his feelings. Kaden is an alien a refuge from another world working with the government with their alien technologies in return for safe haven, but one of their restrictions is they are not allowed to form any attachments. Kaden's species isn't like human's they had to take a human form, their kind doesn't have a beating heart until they meet the one true mate. Kaden thinks it's safe with Annabelle until she goes on a date with another man and then his heart starts to beat. But breaking the rules set in place to protect them and humans isn't the only problem another alien has landed on Earth with vengeance on his mind and Annabelle stuck in the middle. Kaden is willing to risk his life to keep her safe. But will Annabelle forgive him for the lies and accept him for who he is alien and all?

Overall, I wanted more from this book but it was a good read and I look forward to reading the next one. Kaden's brother's are intriguing.

ARC REVIEW The Madness of Lord Westfall by Mia Marlowe

The Order of the M.U.S.E book two, but perfectly read as a stand-alone if necessary. This is a nice blend of historical and paranormal romance. The Order of the M.U.S.E (Metaphysical Union of Sensory Extraordinaires) was created to protect the crown from paranormal means, King George III declining mental health was the result of psychic attacks. Edward St. James the Duke of Camden is the founder and protector and mentor to these people who have metaphysical and unusual sensory abilities. I enjoyed this book it was nice I love the characters and I enjoyed the premise.

Pierce Langdon, Viscount Westfall, was institutionalized by his uncle after the death of his father. Pierce ever since he fell out of a tree as a child claimed he could hear voices, his title hungry uncle put him in Bedlam. Camden found out about Pierce and had him released and has since been working with him to try and control and use his ability for the good of the country. Pierce is glad to be out of the mad house he was tortured and if he had stayed their longer it would have driven him even madder.

Lady Nora Claremont still grieves the death of her first husband, but her stubborn father would not accept her back to the family after his death she found her place "acting" as a courtesan to a man who would act as her protector and she in turn would help him keep his secret. But everything changes when she meets Lord Westfall. He is like no other man she has ever met and she doubts it has to do with his madness, their is something more to him. When a plot to kill the Prince Regent ties her and her protector to whole thing it pulls her closer to Pierce and rethinking everything. Pierce is taken with Nora from the start and is willing to sacrifice even his own life to free her from the life and trouble she has gotten into.

Overall it was a little tame compared to some of the paranormal/historical romance I've read recently, but good none the less. I look forward to the next one.

ARC REVIEW Rising Storm: Tempest Rising by Julie Kenner

From the evil master minds of 1001 Dark Nights, Evil Eye Concepts brings us a soap opera in novella form. A Julie Kenner and Dee Davis brain child together they brought together six other authors to bring life to the strife filled town of Storm, Texas. As first books in a series go this was really good. It had a great catch your attention first chapter. It introduced all the major characters and gave great insight to their personality and character. However much like every soap opera out there a lot and nothing at all happened at the same time. What it did was introduce the characters and hint and tell you where their individual story would be going. I was a little disappointed, I was expecting more. I hate half the characters already, lots of selfish people. I hope when I get to their respective books I see them in a different light.

Ginny Moreno and her best friend, Jacob Salt were on their way back home for a college break. Things had been awkward between them ever since they made the drunken mistake of sleeping together. They just talked about things and hopefully were going to get things figured out on this trip home. The drive home was slowed by a raging storm and when a deer jumped in front of the car Ginny swerved and the car flipped. Ginny survives, Jacob doesn't. Ginny also discovers she's pregnant but the big secret is that she is almost certain it is her ex's. Her forbidden lover, a married man, a politician. But she lies and tells everyone it's Jacob's baby. Jacob's parents embrace Ginny like a long lost daughter. Marisol was left to raise her two siblings after their parents death. She loves both Ginny and Luis and as much as it hurts she must come to realize Ginny needs to do do what she must for the good of her and the baby.

Sheriff Dillon Murphy is and has always been in love with Joanne, but she married a bastard, Hector Alvarez. Dillon knows in his gut the Hector abuses Joanne but has not proof of it. Dillon is tired of waiting for Hector to mess up he has made his feelings clear toward Joanne clear to her now he just has to wait for the right time to make his move.

Dakota Alvarez is dying to get out of Storm, she thinks her ticket out is Jacob Salt, but then he dies and she feels even more trapped and she blames Ginny and doesn't want to believe that the baby is his. Mallory Alvarez hates her life, the only good thing about it is her boyfriend Luis, her mother is weak and her sister is conceited, her brother Marcus was the smart one and left as soon as he could, and her father is a hateful manipulator she know he hits her mother. Lacey Salt is struggling dealing with the death of her brother and now she has to deal with Ginny moving in pregnant, and her mother Celeste coddling Ginny. Joanne has no one to talk to, he father disowned her when she married Hector and she has to sneak around just to see her mother and her sister, Hannah. Kristin Douglas knows something is up with her employee Joanne, but is willing to let it go because Joanne knows something about her that is better left unsaid.

Overall, I look forward to the rest of the series. I am glad because the characters I actually like in the series so far their books are written by my favorite authors. Next week Episode 2: White Lightning by Lexi Blake

ARC REVIEW Ghost of You by Kelly Moran

I *bangs head on desk* missed *bangs head on desk* BOOK 2!! Despite missing book two of the Phantoms series (my own fault completely) jumping back in to the series was easy. Ghost of You is wonderful love story and creepy as hell ghost story. I inhaled it this book. Sammy and Cain are a powder keg ready to explode, it's a fine line in between love and hate.

Cain the newest member is a psychologist and Sammy has a deep routed hatred for all shrinks, the fact that he is walking sex appeal just makes her hate him more because she doesn't want to be attracted to him. Cain has feelings for Sammy, even her extreme obvious dislike of him can't get in the way of it. He likes everything about her and everyone, especially the viewers of Phantoms, can see it; everyone except her. The producers have had enough of their fight and told them to shape up and get along. One of the Producers, Elise, is retiring and knows Sammy wants the job, she will get the job as long as things straighten out between her and Cain.

The next site they are working on is in Sammy's home town. she was contacted by an old friend who recently bought land that has been said that is cursed and haunted by what maybe a demon. It's and old church and school that was closed down after a fire in the fifties and an old cemetery that predates it all back to early 1900's, the road out front is also part of the curse an ungodly amount of accidents and deaths have happened right outside the church including Sammy's own Mother. Right off the bat things start happening and it seems like the evil entity likes Sammy. Sammy tried to keep her own past out of the limelight but that's not going to happen. Everything from EVPs to outright physical attacks pushes the team away. The team tries to get to the bottom of things researching what happened and talking to a few of the survivors from the school fire. Working closely together Sammy finally realizes just how protective Cain is over her and just how comfortable she feels with him. Cain wants to help and even after Sammy tells him about her past he still won't give her up. But after everything Sammy still is pushing him away she pushes so hard she just may have lost him for good.

Overall, I really liked this book. I love the whole cast of characters and I really need to go back and read number two.

FYI it's only .99

ARC REVIEW Heat of the Moment by Katie Rose

The Boys of Summer are back! Yeah, I love this series. Katie Rose brings us a new player, Gavin King traded from the Dodgers to the Sonics because an injury. The injury if not treated properly can end his career; good thing the Sonics have Jessica Hart one of the best Physical Therapist in the biz. I love these two they had such a great romance. As always Katie Rose writes wonderfully it pulls me in and I don't want to leave even after I finish the book.

Gavin King just got traded, and even before he was officially told it was on twitter. The Dodgers just couldn't risk and injured player on their team and had no trouble trading him to the New Jersey Sonics. The Sonics had faith in him, that he would get better with the right PT and be even better than before. It was a bit of culture shock for Gavin Jersey being so different from southern California but his new team mates welcomed him like family and even PT looks promising.

Jessica Hart swore off baseball players, you know what that means right, you swear something off and sure enough it's going to happen. Jessica had a bad boyfriend, he's a girl in every city kinda guy and when she caught him cheating it was from the newspaper. Jessica loves sports comes from a family of athletes and the only girl which makes her brothers very protective especially after the last guy. So far Jessica has had no problem keeping the players at a distance, even though one of them is very insistent, until Gavin. Their is an attraction between Gavin and Jessica but Gavin has a girlfriend back in Cali and Jessica's strict no baseball player rule. That all goes up in smoke when the girlfriend breaks up with him after admitting to cheating and Jessica's bad ex-boyfriend shows up again wanting her back. After an emotional encounter with the ex, Gavin is their a shoulder to cry on and needing comfort and wanting to feel wanted Jessica and Gavin have a very heated encounter. Gavin has come to the realization that Jessica is like no other woman, and he won't stop until she admits she wants him just as much. He just has to convince her that she is worthy of being loved for who she is and that he is the right guy for her. Things never run smoothly they have their bumps in the road and Jessica runs scared but Gavin doesn't give up.

Overall, this was another great book for the series it mentions past characters and see how their HEAs are going.

Overall, this dark paranormal is great reading, erotic and exciting.

ARC REVIEW Fugly by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Fugly, a stand alone novel from Mimi Jean Pamfiloff. This book is different from other books Mimi Jean has written, it's not your Mama's Billionaire Romance for sure, while it has the smart ass and snarky humor that you expect with her books this one delves into a subject matter that a lot women have issues with. How others "see" us and how they "perceive" us and how we see and perceive our selves. Mimi Jean left me speechless at the end of the book. I wanted more, I wanted her to draw it out more I really didn't want this book to end. Mimi Jean writes from the heart in this book; it takes the ugly truth of reality and makes it beautiful.

Lily Snow was named after the flower because her mother thought the flowers were elegant and timeless and beautiful and Lily is on the inside. Lily has overcome the fact that people recoil when they look at her, she has come to expect it. But as usual once they get to know her they love her. She is a strong person, loyal and is fearless. She knows what she wants and when she sets her mind to something there is no changing her mind, and what she wants is a job at Cole Cosmetics. Her long term goal is to own her own cosmetic business and she wants to learn from the best and the best is Maxwell Cole. But her expectations are smashed when she meets him, he's a bastard and a hypocrite. For all his posturing and claiming that a woman should embrace her inner beauty he can't stand to look at Lily.

Max Cole has a problem and Lily is exactly who he needs, he offers her a job. Max is beautiful beyond perfect the opposite of Lily. Where she is ugly he is beautiful, where she is beautiful on the inside he is a hideous monster and he wants her help to fix what’s wrong with him. Max bring out all the insecurities Lily has ever had but spending time together Max starts to see Lily for who she really is, he sees the beauty of Lily. Together Max and Lily fit together perfectly like two sides of a coin. But all is not copacetic at Cole Cosmetics, and things from Max’s past threaten to tear them apart. Can Lily's insecurities survive what is to come or will her fugly win out?

Overall, this book was outstanding. I would recommend this book to everyone.

ARC REVIEW Following Her by Melody Anne

More Melody Anne greatness. This Contemporary Romance has a touch of suspense, it still focuses on the romance and seduction between Ella and Axel but the reason they are thrown together is a bit of suspense. I always enjoy reading Melody Anne she is always easy and gratifying read.

Ella got involved with the wrong guy, and also her boss. When she found out all the illegal stuff he was involved in she quit and immediately went to the DA with everything she knew, now her life is being threatened and whiles she thinks she has it handled her cousin is worried and calls in a favor from his partner. Axel is supposed to be on vacation instead he is babysitting Ella, but one look at Ella and he's a goner. Ella doesn't need a babysitter and she doesn't need to fall in love with an FBI agent but despite his highhandedness to protect her she still falls for the FBI bad boy.

Ella is fearless and she thinks she has it handled but Axel knows better and goes above and beyond to keep her alive. In the end Ella's hardheadedness just might get her killed.

Overall, this was a quick and enjoyable read. I really love everything of Melody Anne's that I have read.

ARC REVIEW Highlander Undone by Connie Brockway

Book Information
Title: Highlander Undone
Author: Connie Brockway

Publisher: Montlake Romance
Genre: Historical Romance

While recovering at his uncle’s estate from wounds sustained in the Sudan, Jack Cameron—a loyal Scottish captain in the British army—is haunted by the words of a dying officer: one of Her Majesty’s Black Dragoons is aiding the slavers they were sent to suppress. But first, he must win Addie’s trust despite the emotional wounds of her past. Will Jack dupe the only woman he has ever loved or stand down from hunting the traitor? Connie Brockway wrote one of my favorite historical romances, My Dearest Enemy, I knew I would like this one. Highlander Undone is a witty, and enjoyable everything that I love about historical romances. Connie Brockway's writing is comical each of the characters are facetious but yet when it's time for the emotional heartache you can feel the change from quick-witted to somber and earnest. Jack and Addie together are a combustible pair. Addie, I love, but there were times I wanted to smack her. Jack, Jack, Jack, Jack...sigh I love Jack (Jack is also one of my favorite names; blame it on Mia Sarah in Legend I love the way she says that name.) Jack is strong, intelligent, compelling, and loyal. The story was engaging and enjoyable.

Jack is a soldier through and through but he is tired of all the killing, and when he learns that someone was being paid off by the slavers and is responsible for the deaths of so many he is determined to find who is responsible and bring them to justice. Jack is mortally wounded and barely survives, in his time mending at his great-uncles country home he finds the way to infiltrate the Black Dragoons invisibly.

Addie was mentally abused by her husband, his constant berating and demeaning or her turned her from a vivacious girl into a timid woman. The death of her husband is her chance to start over, helping her artist brother with his commission of painting the officers of the Black Dragoons by play hostess. The introduction to Jack, a shy artist in over his head in the artist community, awakens something in her she thought she lost long ago.

The closer Jack comes to finding the culprit the closer he becomes with Addie. He knows Addie's late husband has something to do with it but doesn't want her to suffer anymore because of the man. They fall in love and Jack knows he must confess to Addie who he really is, but will her fear of soldiers be overcome by his love or will she be overwhelmed by her fear to fully give her self and her love to Jack.

Addie sank back on her heels. Her paint-stained smock pooled around her as she eyed the wall panel before her. With a sound of satisfaction, she once more rose to her knees and dipped an ostrich fern into a tray filled with gilt paint, then pressed it onto the aubergine silk panel.
Slowly, she peeled the long frond back. A perfect impression of the leaf interlocked with the golden silhouette of a fern above it, trailing a graceful latticework from ground to ceiling. There! She’d transformed the second-story boudoir into her own private withdrawing room.
It had been a long time since anything had been well and truly hers. She would never have guessed that this house could ever feel welcoming. And yet, it did. For the first time since her marriage, she was able to please herself.
The thought gave rise to an impulse, one she would have never heeded a year ago. But she could be impulsive now. She could afford to be.
With a feeling of delicious abandonment, she slid her shoes off and peeled back her stockings from her calves, hiking her skirts so that her bare legs and feet lay exposed in the bright square of warm sunlight on the floor. Closing her eyes, she lay on her back, wiggling her toes.
She was rather surprised she was still capable of impetuousness. Indeed, she’d viewed the slow reawakening of her boldness with no little mistrust. After all, had she not been impetuous, she might have heeded the Hoodlesses’ loving warnings and never eloped with Charles.
It is Jack Cameron’s fault, she decided, but could not find a frown for that conclusion.
Each day spent with the handsome, nonsensical, yet oddly vulnerable Scotsman had fanned to life a tiny ember of self-confidence. It was not altogether comfortable. Like finding out that a favorite gown you’d thought lost years before had merely been put in mothballs. You long to try it on, and yet you are afraid if you do it will look ridiculous. Or worse, it will no longer fit.
Oddly enough, Jack’s very vulnerability encouraged her own self-assurance. The manner in which he masked his self-doubt with such a provocative and blatant caricature stirred an inclination to nonconformity in her.
She suspected that she alone refused to accept Jack as the effete, overcontrived fribble he presented to the world. His conversation certainly never hinted at any weaknesses—oh, dear Lord, no! The thought made Addie smile. Jack was all arrogant disdain and witty repartee. Mr. Wilde himself would be hard-pressed to keep up with Jack’s drawled bon mots
But then, just as she was upbraiding herself for romanticizing him, she would see it: a keen, thoughtful intelligence, a perceptive remark that belied his pose of absolute self-involvement, an unexpected gentleness in dealing with another’s frailties.
And then, too, even more rarely, but just as undeniably, she would surprise on his fallen-angel’s face a fleeting, hunted expression: a mixture of dismay, uncertainty, and awful longing.
She did not understand what authored that haunted look, but more and more often lately, she found herself wondering how she would feel if she was able to be the object of it.
