ARC REVIEW Rising Storm episode 6: Take the Storm by Rebecca Zanetti

Episode 6: Take the Storm is brought to us by Rebecca Zanetti. One of my favorite authors by far, normally I love everything she writes but I can't give this one higher than a 3.5 star. I enjoyed it more than the first three. Unlike the others this one is probably the only one that can be read out of order and you still kinda get what's going on. Rebecca Zanetti wraps up the drama very nicely and puts it in a nutshell as a good reminder, and a filler to "fill in" those who might be lost or came in late (just like a soap would do). This one, I like how things progressed in the story, but was really disappointed with the ending. I felt like hitting Marisol with her own book the whole time. I love Patrick, I feel sorry for him he deserves better.

So this episode centers around the eldest Moreno child, Marisol. Marisol put her life on hold when her parents died to help raise her two siblings, Ginny and Luis. Patrick Murphy has patiently waited on the sidelines as a friend for Marisol. Finally with Ginny and Luis old enough Patrick makes his move; Marisol however still isn't ready. Marisol has never done anything for herself and this is her chance. Patrick tired of waiting gives Marisol an ultimatum, be with me completely or not at all.
Also in this episode; more drama between Mallory, Luis, and Lacey. Dakota really starts to show signs of delusion and high ambitions but the Senator isn't a man to cross, neither is his mummy. Dakota also gives her sister, Mallory, some really bad advice. Brit and Marcus kiss and make-up and Ginny and Lucas are happy.

With every passing episode the foreshadowing of the impending storm and all hell breaking loose drives me more and more insane. Come on already get with the drama I know I'm not getting a happy ending. The fuse is long enough just let the thing blow.

SEIZED BY LOVE
The Ryders #1
Melissa Foster
Releasing Oct 28th, 2015
World Literary Press

You fell in love with Blue Ryder and Lizzie Barber in Seaside Summers, now follow their journey to find true love in SEIZED BY LOVE, the first book in the Ryder series.

Lizzie Barber runs a successful flower shop by day and secretly hosts the Naked Baker webcast at night to help pay for her younger sister’s education. To keep friends and family from finding out about her sexy secret, she’s put her social life on hold until her sister’s education is paid off and she can stop filming the webcast.

Blue Ryder fell hard for Lizzie Barber when he met her a year ago, and he hasn’t been able to get her off his mind since. Everything about the feisty little brunette, from her tight bod to her seductive smile, cuts straight to his heart. Though Lizzie has turned down every invitation he’s extended—Blue is not about to give up trying.

Renovating Lizzie’s kitchen brings Blue further into Lizzie’s life, and the oven is not the only thing heating up. One night and one powerful kiss changes everything. But when Lizzie’s secret is revealed and the safe bubble she’s hidden in shatters, true love may not be enough to put the pieces back together.

THE RYDERS are the newest addition to the LOVE IN BLOOM series by New York Times & USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Melissa Foster.  Seized by Love is part of a massive universe created by Melissa Foster, Love in Bloom. The Ryders are just a small part of that universe. I keep calling it that because that is what it feels like everything is connected and everything fits together perfectly, it doesn't matter if you have read all of them or not. Never having read any of the books before I found this one humourous and romantically sweet and it was okay as a stand alone from the larger part of the universe.

I loved Lizzie, I swear with as much guilt she was carrying around you think she was a devout catholic. Blue, ohhhh, he was a sweetie and so patient. So Lizzie is putting her sister through college by hosting a web series called The Naked Baker where she wears nothing but an apron and heels and talks very suggestively. She started in college and managed to make enough money to pay off  her student loans and buy her flower shop. But wherein lies the problem is that no one knows it's her. She has lied to everybody about it. Blue has been trying to get Lizzie into more than just a friend relationship. When Lizzie finally gives she starts to feel the pressure even more. Finally when the truth comes out she may have just lost everyone she cares about.

Overall, I had some problems with the book but it was personal preference. This book really was a joy to read and I would definitely be willing to read more from Melissa Foster

BLOG TOUR Catch Me by Jennifer Probst

CATCH ME (Steele Brothers series, #1)
Barnes & Noble: http://bit.ly/1kkrxKZ

Rick Steele has avoided relationships since he caught his fiancée cheating, but when his friend refers him to the exclusive agency, FANTA-C to experience the night of his dreams, he's not prepared for his emotional and physical reaction to his date. Tara shows him a raw passion and honesty he’s never encountered. For the first time, Rick wants more than one night, but he needs to catch her first...

Tara Denton escaped a brutal past and needs one night with a stranger to get beyond her sexual and emotional limitations. On the brink of recovering her strength and independence, she wants nothing to do with a relationship. But Rick Steele does more than rock her body…he rocks her heart. Tara has to make a choice, but is she ready to get caught?

I love Jennifer Probst, and when I started reading her books a couple years ago I never expected her to write in the genre of BDSM. But WOW! I am blown away, it's a nice subtle theme in the book. I was very impressed. The characters are battling their own demons and past hurts, connect for one night of passion. Tara to prove to herself that she is a sexual creature despite what he ex said she can move past the fear he instilled in her. Rick is stuck in a rut, all the mindless encounters since he found his fiance cheating on him, have gotten old and he needs some connection.

Tara is a natural submissive, she loves to please. But her last relationship he abused Tara's need to please horribly; so that when she finally go the courage to move on she was badly scarred mentally and physically. Tara opted for a night with a man who would be gentle with her; with her being extremely self conscious she thought that is what she needed, what she got was Rick. Rick takes on look at Tara and knows their is something special about her, and after one night with her he doesn't want to let her go. Rick is willing to teach and show Tara everything about how a relationship should be. Tara still scared is hesitant; Rick is patient and knows the best thing for her.

This story was a great quick erotica read. I never expected this from Jennifer Probst and it has shown how versatile she can be as an author.

ARC REVIEW The Moonshadow's Daughter by Kaylie Newell

The Moonshadow's Daughter is part of Wolfe Creek series, even though you can read it as a stand alone, I felt something was lacking because I haven't read the previous books. Part of that was Aimee, she's going through the transition of normal young woman to werewolf functioning in a normal society; but you come in halfway through that transition. You don't see much growing as a character because of it. The book does have a definite creep factor, the mentions and sections where "something" is out there in the woods watching really keeps you on the edge. Along with that are some pretty erie descriptives, it has some great descriptive scenes settings.

Aimee had been living in the woods since her transformation, it was easier and safer for her to be or and away from everybody. She had also been presumed dead, away from her parents and physically and mentally student than the girl that they knew. Aimee is now struggling with the urge to reenter society or stay in the woods alone forever. Her discussion gets taken out of her hands when she falls sick, she just barely makes it to her friends house; one of only three people who knows she's still alive. So sick her friends calls the doctor in.

Doctor Jake Blackstock was just grateful that his parents could take care of his son. Ever since Jake lost his wife a year ago he had been struggling with raising his young son on his own. Young Daniel, was lost in the woods and claims that a wolf man saved him and brought him back to camp. Nightly he still had reoccurring dreams of the monster that killed his mother and of the nice wolf man that saved him. Late one night Jake gets called out to the inn to treat a patient. Right away Jake knows she's something he recognizes her from the search party that was held the commercials with her face plastered all over the place asking have you seen me; it was also insta-love. Bring Aimee back to health was just part of his job, but even after she was better and disappeared again he could not stop thinking about her, worrying about her out in the woods all by herself and with winter coming the drop in temperature. He sent a message through their mutual friend for her to come see him for a follow up visit. Aimee should have stayed away but the kind and gentle doctor made her wish things could be different. She should have stayed away especially when he offered her the extra room. Daniel fell in love with Aimee almost from the get go, and as cute and adorable as that little boy is Aimee couldn't stop loving him too. The more time didn't together the more Jake falls in love with Aimee, but he is aware she is still hiding something from him. Aimee feels guilty but she's scared to share her secret, scared of what Jake will think of what he will do.

But something sinister is also out in the woods. Aimee can feel it, something watching Daniel and Jake. Something is also killing local cattle; cows, sheep and even a local who was out camping was bit by a freakin big animal that moved fast as lightning. Aimee and the other werewolves in the town have an idea who it is but can't find him, Aimee world falls apart after she tells Jake what she is and when the monster strikes again Jake's world threatens to fall apart as well.

Overall, this was a creepy, but in a good way, book. The love story was good, satisfying; the suspense was really good and the pay off at the climax was suitable, good but not the best.

ARC REVIEW Zara & Xin by Jade Kerrion

So Jade Kerrion has both Zara and Xin ebooks releasing today! Zara and Xin are both part of the Double Helix Women series. Zara takes place in between books two and three of the series. Xin takes place after the last book. I am no stranger to this series and I do not hide the fact that I love this series. Jade Kerrion writes in a why that tangles you up inside emotionally and satisfies your sci-fi addicted brain with brilliant ideas and excitement; this is after all Zara we are talking about, anything that can go wrong will and more than likely explode or die. Zara is such a strong woman the only thing that has ever knocked her off balance was Danyael. Xin has always been a mystery not much has been said about her past just that she is a clone of a Chinese Warrior Queen. These two books give an insight to how both of their minds work and why they may have made the decisions they did and quite a bit more about their pasts. Zara is filled with action and subterfuge and Xin is action and medical science gone horribly wrong.

Zara has the habit of acting before she thinks and that has always lead her straight into trouble it also gets the job done. In this book Zara's Uncle calls in a favor; a group of girls has been kidnapped by one of the local terrorist in Zara's hometown in Beirut. Zara flies in with SEAL team Three to rescue the girls one, one whom is the daughter of a U.S. ambassador. Before Zara can leave she learns she is pregnant, almost into her third trimester. Zara knowing this has got to be Galahad's baby wants to terminate it. Her doctor advises against it but Zara knows the hell she and the baby would go through with Galahad as the father. Not to mention Galahad has turned into a bit of jerk.

Zara while in Beirut steps into a big pile of political bullshit. Conspiracy shrouded in secrets covered in lies, and Zara is stuck in the middle. Soon she is on her own trusting no one, trying to rescue those she calls friends. Meanwhile she is constantly thinking about Danyael and trying to figure out her feeling for him; the feelings she never wanted to let herself feel, the kind of feelings she told herself she should have had for Galahad and not Danyael. You find out more about Zara's past and for once she actually stops and thinks about her actions before she acts on them. Basically WWDD, What Would Danyael Do?

Xin, gee where to start because there's so much you don't know about Xin there is a lot in this book. You discover so much about her past and how it shaped her into who she is. You discover just how guilty she feels for Danyael going to the maximum security prison and almost dying. One night she meets with Danyael and finds out he was going to work with the National Institutes of Health. Danyael has a bad feeling about the people, Xin tells him that as an Alpha Empath his gut feelings account for a lot and should act on it. When she digs a little deeper she discovers some startling information. When she tries to contact Danyael again to warn him she is too late he is already on his way to China. Xin must do something she never thought she would do, she is going back to China... with her mother. Okay so she's not her mother in the traditional sense. When Ching Shih, the clone of China's notorious Pirate Queen Zheng Yi Sao, fled China with a baby Xin, she lawfully adopted Xin as her daughter.

Xin works it out with the Chinese government to "visit" but soon realizes they need her help. A series of murders has been happening the locals are calling it a vampire and there is also a new drug out that is killing people. Xin agrees to help as long as it doesn't get in the way with what she and Danyael have to do. But things go from bad to worse and it seems like all hope is lost, man if she gets Danyael killed Zara will kill her.

Overall, these two book are outstanding. A great addition to a fascinating story.

ARC REVIEW I'll Never Let You Go by Mary Burton

Book Three of the Morgan's of Nashville series, yea! Oh my gosh this book! Alex Morgan the tight ass of the family shows a softer side when Leah Carson walks into his life. I loved this book it was constant sitting on the edge, anticipation of what's going to happen next. It had a Shyamalan kinda twist, well I wasn't expecting it, but then looking back I'm thinking how could I miss it. Mary Burton is great, I love her suspense, the romance plays second fiddle to the romance but the romance always feels sincere never rushed; her characters are realistic and strong. Even the sections from the pov of the killer gives more to the creepiness of the book.

Leah Carson had the courage to leave her abusive relationship, and what did it get her stabbed twenty-three times by her crazy ex-husband. Leah almost died if it wasn't for the fact that she slept with the phone under her pillow, 911 on speed dial, and an experienced police officer who kept her from bleeding out. Four years later she is getting to the point where she wants to move on with her life she is a vet at a local Nashville clinic. She still keeps a meticulous journal of the day's events more habit and OCD then paranoia these days she even is willing to start dating again.

Alex Morgan works for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, other cops either tolerate him or despise him. His brother Deke has called him on his latest case; a torso is found, that's it just a torso that was also burnt to a crisp. Alex was called in because in in a bag close by was the business card for a vise cop, Deidre Jones that Alex just started investigating. The initial reason Alex asked Leah out was because she is friends with Deidre, but it wasn't the only reason, he feels a connection with her an attraction he hasn't ever felt with anybody ever before. Alex isn't the only one with ulterior motives, Deidre befriends Leah for reasons of her own, but before she could accomplish her mission she is murdered, stabbed twenty-three times.

Leah is becoming increasingly paranoid, things that her ex did before the escalated and tried to killer her have been happening again and now with Deidre killed in the same manner that almost took her life and especially since she found Deidre's body she's struggling to remain calm, after all her ex is dead. When Leah finally trust Alex enough to confide in him everything that's been happening, Alex finally tells her he doesn't think her ex is dead. The relationship between Alex and Leah is slow moving, the attraction is definitely there but the trust is slow going and Leah soon realises that when Alex commits himself to someone he does it wholeheartedly, he may not show his emotions, but it's all in the little things he does and nothing will stand in the way of him protecting Leah.

Overall, this is a great book for the season. It's creepy and intense a great nail biter.

ARC REVIEW His Work of Art by Shannyn Schroeder

Hot & Nerdy book four by Shannyn Schroeder does not feel like book four, I read it without reading the others so it's fine as a stand alone. This book is so adorable, I love it, it's light and what I consider fluff; it is short not so sweet (wink wink) but it's fun to read and it made me go ahhhhhhhhh. I would definitely go back and read others from this series. I really enjoyed reading about comic book geeks fall in love. I love reading comics but it's a recent development for me and like Reese I am a DC girl, but there are some points of Marvel that I prefer and the teasing flirting with their argument over DC vserus Marvel. When Adam brings up that there weren't enough people of color in comic books and then Reese started to name off some, there are also which she for got Marvel has one way more cooler than Black Panther and DC Green Lantern and Cyborg; like Blade and probably one of my favorites from Image, McFarlane's Spawn. I bring it up because it is the one major issue that comes between Adam and Reese.

Reese has the idea for an awesome female superhero, and as part of her final project for one of her college senior classes is to write, create and publish her comic. Reese asks Adam to illustrate, her story. Adam's dream job is to work for Marvel so when the cute comic book junkie Reese shoots him her idea he agrees for the sheer fact that it would look good on his resume. Adam is soon pulled into Reese's story and together they restructure the story and even add in Adam's hero he has been trying to create. Reese is able to create a backstory and make him the perfect mentor for her superhero. Thank to the help from Julie, the publisher and marketer and the crowd source campaign fund the comic kicks off even before the first book is released.
Reese has had a crush on Adam but her subtle flirting isn't working, so she thinks he is either oblivious or not interested. One night they are working together they kiss. it's everything Reese thought it would be and more. But Adam does the stupid boy thing and apologises. Reese has no idea where she stands with Adam so when she gets invited to his New Year's Eve party she borrows a dress from her sophisticated best friend. Adam isn't able to keep his eyes or his hands off of her but after one night together Adam says something stupid, again, and Reese suddenly feels self conscious and unsure. Adam then informs Reese they can't get into a relationship because she's white. Flabbergasted Reese doesn't know what to do to convince him otherwise. Adam grew up believing that his father left because he couldn't stand peoples racist remarks about his white mother and his black father's relationship and Adam swore he couldn't put someone he loved through that. Adam's mom, who is awesome I love that woman, informs Adam otherwise. Now Adam must grovel to Reese and show her he can get past his fear.

Overall, I really enjoyed everything about this book.

ARC REVIEW Rising Storm episode 5: Calm Before the Storm by Larissa Ione

Rising Storm episode 5 Calm Before the Storm is brought to us by Larissa Ione. Now this is what I'm talking about; this was a nice blend between nice and happy and vindictive sneaky backstab-e-ness. I don't think I have read Larissa Ione before but I liked this one. I think the biggest problem with this book and it's so stupid, I know I'm being picky but it's the only thing that really bugged me in the entire book. At one part they are at a cookout and Marie Louise says, "If anyone wants a hot dog instead of a burger, I'll give you directions to Dairy Queen." I have lived in Texas my whole life and never ever have I associated Dairy Queen with hot dogs; steak fingers, yes; big and thick burgers, yes; Blizzards, without a doubt; but not hot dogs. If I wanted a hot dog I would go to Sonic. See I told you it's stupid, and I understand in different regional menus, but it just bugged me.

Marcus Alvarez left home and never wanted to return, but with his father gone and his mother struggling he came back. When he left he drifted around until he come to a ranch in Montana. The man who owns the ranch has acted like a father to Marcus, he has taught him so much and even plans to leave the whole ranch to Marcus. Marcus was going to just stay long enough to check things out then leave again; that was until he saw Brittany Rush. Brittany has always had a crush on Marcus and he came back even better looking than before he left. Brit doesn't understand why Marcus left and is even more confused by why he won't stay. Marcus knows he is not good enough for Brit and even more aware of the fact that her family hates his. Star Crossed lovers, Brit is willing to deal with her family if Marcus is willing to give it a shot. But Brit's family is out to make sure they aren't together.

Mallory finally listens to Luis and his apologies, and agrees to give them another shot but they have to start over. Luis is ecstatic he finally has Mal back in his life and he confides in her the secret that has been bugging him. Ginny and Logan are happy and not letting the rumors get them down. Dillon faced with Marcus asking questions confesses that he is the reason  his father left. Marcus is glad and completely ok with the fact that the Sheriff scared off his dad, but pissed that he should have been the one to do it. Marcus confides to Brit the circumstances why he left and even why he is struggling to stay.  Sebastian is getting tired of Dakota already and as much as I hate Dakota and I know if the secret get out it will ultimately affect Ginny also I hope Dakota ruins Sebastian reputation and career.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this one even if I was cursing at the ending.

ARC REVIEW Good Girls Don't by Shiloh Walker

Re-release of Shiloh Walker's Good Girls Don't came out last month. I loved the book I wish there was more of it it was short and dirty. This is a great quick, light BDSM erotica read.

Lori has been rethinking her relationship with her fiance. Her best friend and neighbor, Mike, has noticed she has been getting more and more depressed each day he tried to tell her she needed to dump him. Lori scared that Mike is right but still doesn't do anything, until she walks in on her fiance doing doggie style with one of the other neighbors that she realizes just how manipulative and horrible her ex really is. Lori not taking any shit kicks him out head held high. Lori realizing all the things her ex held back from her starts to do everything she has wanted to do but he wouldn't let her. With the new change in her life Lori takes the bull by the horns and she gets a membership to the sex (BDSM) club  in town.

Mike, local Police Detective, has lusted after his neighbor for years but she is so sweet and innocent and he likes things a little... more and is afraid he would scare her off if she knew his sexual proclivities. The last thing Mike expected to see was Lori at Expose, the BDSM club.  Mike thought he was scaring her away but all he did was kindle the fire. After a weekend of outstanding sex Mike runs scared. Lori isn't going to run crying into the night; is she upset, Hell Yes, does it hurt more then when she found her fiance cheating on her, definitely, is she going to take it lying down, fuck no.  Before Mike can catch up to her and apologize something happens with her ex and he just may have lost her for good and it was not fault of his own.

Overall, Read the whole thing in no time I wish it had more it wasn't near long enough I think it could have been longer and more detailed about the other suspense events, but I still Loved it. I loved Lori she was a lot stronger than she thinks she is and she knows what she want she won't stop 'til she gets it. And the bonus book is one I read last year loved that one too.

About STROKE OF MIDNIGHT: A Midnight Breed Series Novella

Born to a noble Breed lineage steeped in exotic ritual and familial duty, vampire warrior Jehan walked away from the luxurious trappings of his upbringing in Morocco to join the Order’s command center in Rome. But when a generations-old obligation calls Jehan home, the reluctant desert prince finds himself thrust into an unwanted handfasting with Seraphina, an unwilling beauty who’s as determined as he is to resist the antiquated pact between their families. Yet as intent as they are to prove their incompatibility, neither can deny the attraction that ignites between them. And as Jehan and Seraphina fight to resist the calling of their blood, a deadly enemy seeks to end their uneasy truce before it even begins….

I love the Midnight Breed series. I have been falling behind I missed some of the previous ones. Luckily with this being a part of 1001 Dark Nights it pretty much can be read as a stand-alone. Stroke of Midnight is a quick exciting and hot read.

Jehan is happy with his life the way it is, being a captain of his own squad in Rome; but he know his time is coming an age old family tradition that he has to fulfill. The joining of two families that were caught in a feud ended the bloodshed by one person from each of the families married. The tradition has them stay for eight days alone to give them time to get to know each other and fall in love. Jehan wants nothing to do with it he thinks it's a stupid and outdated practice he was just going to play through the motions until he saw her...

Seraphina was adopted into the family after being orphaned as a child, she feels it's her mission to take care of the countless of orphans who weren't as lucky as she was she even uses her own money. She thinks the tradition is outdated but when her father promised to give her her trust early she thought she could just play through the motions and make it through the week until she saw him...

Lust at first sight but when Sera learns what Jehan does she thinks he is just another heartless killer and Jehan thinks she just a money grubbing socialite. The first night Jehan succeeds in pissing of Sera by teasing her to an almost orgasm and then leaves her, for two days they manage to avoid each other until life intervenes. The site where Sera has been working has had their supplies held up so Jehan drives her there to help out. From then on they see each other in another light, they see each other for what they really are. Things aren't always what they seem, people you trust aren't always the good guys.

Overall, This wasn't as good as some of the other but I think that was because it was so short and it was still good.

“They’re getting away.”
He and his teammates from the Order’s Rome command center had been in pursuit of the four blood-thirsty Rogues since their patrol had been alerted to the killing at the club. They had contained the situation before any of the other humans had realized what was going on, but their mission wouldn’t be over until they ashed the feral members of their own race.
“Split up,” he told his men. “Damn it, we can’t lose them! Close in from all sides.”
His comrade and good friend, Savage, grinned and gave a nod of his blond head before veering right to take one of the other winding alleys on Jehan’s command. The other warrior, a hulking, shaved-head menace called Trygg, made no acknowledgment to his team leader before vanishing into the darkness like a wraith to carry out the order.
Jehan sped like an arrow through the tight artery of the ancient street ahead of him, dodging slow-moving compact cars and taxis who were getting nowhere fast in the district that was clogged with tourists and club-hoppers even as the hour crept close to midnight.
The public out and about tonight was a mix of human and Breed civilians, something that would have been unheard of just twenty years ago, before the Breed’s existence had been revealed to mankind.
Now, in cities around the world, the two populations lived together openly. They worked together. Governed together. But their hard-won peace was fragile. All it might take was one horrific killing—like the one earlier tonight—to set off a global panic.
While every Breed warrior of the Order had pledged his blood and breath to prevent that from happening, others among mankind and the Breed were secretly—and not-so-secretly—instigating war.
Tonight’s Rogue attack had the stamp of conspiracy all over it. And it wasn’t the first. During the past few nights there had been a handful of others, in Rome and elsewhere in Europe. While it wasn’t unusual for one of Jehan’s kind to become irreversibly addicted to blood, the spate of recent slayings in all-too-public places by Rogues torqued up on some kind of Bloodlust-inducing narcotic had fingers pointing to the terror group called Opus Nostrum.
Just a few days ago, the Order had scored a staggering hit on Opus, taking out its newest leader, who’d been headquartered in Ireland. The cabal was hobbled for now, but its hidden members were many and their machinations seemed to know no bounds. They and all who served them had to be stopped, or the consequences were certain to be catastrophic.
