The Wedding Belles #0.5
Released June 6th, 2016
Sex and the City meets The Wedding Planner in this prequel to USA TODAY bestselling author Lauren Layne’s The Wedding Belles series about three high-powered New York City women who can plan any wedding—but their own.
Up-and-coming wedding photographer Leah McHale’s career is on the rise–thanks in no small part to the Wedding Belles, the elite New York wedding planning agency that always throws top-tier business Leah’s way. So when one of the Belles asks Leah to fill in at the former First Daughter's wedding, Leah is overjoyed to say yes–until she finds out who she’ll be working with.
Jason Rhodes is the one man who was able to capture Leah’s heart and, once he had it, promptly stepped all over it and left her broken. Now he’s working side-by-side with her at the biggest wedding of the season and Leah is determined to give him the cold shoulder. Despite his persistence, she is not going to fall for his charming, impish ways again. Not even if he still has that killer, irresistible smile...
This is a nice introduction to Lauren Layne’s newest series The Wedding Belles. It is just a novella only about 100 pages you can probably read it in one sitting but it is so cute. Lauren Layne packs everything into this small package; romance and angst, character intros and development not to mention her classic sassy and snarky humor to make this prequel a fantastic read.
When Alexis Morgan, the powerhouse behind the Wedding Belles, asks Leah to pick up a last minute job Leah couldn’t be happier to take the job. I mean who in their right mind would turn down the job of photographer for the former first daughter’s wedding. However there is a catch, it’s such a big job Alexis had to call in another photographer to help unfortunately for Leah it’s the one person who broke her heart. Jason Rhodes and Leah McHale have a past a short one but one that burned bright and hot; it all changed when Leah believed Jason betrayed her. Now a year later Leah is still upset with Jason and Jason wants another chance. Leah thinks that maybe one last night will make everything better and all the old hurts stop. Jason has never stopped loving Leah but when it comes down to going after her he just can't bring himself to do it his past issues are messing with his mind.
Overall, this was a real cute one. It was slightly different from the other books of hers I read I think maybe just because it was so short, but no way does it away from the story. The book is definitely a great start to what is hopefully going to be another great series from Lauren Layne.
In 2011, she ditched her corporate career in Seattle to pursue a full-time writing career in Manhattan, and never looked back.
In her ideal world, every stiletto-wearing, Kate Spade wielding woman would carry a Kindle stocked with Lauren Layne books.
