ARC REVIEW Sparking the Fire by Kate Meader

Another fun and sexy read from Kate Meader. Hot in Chicago book three brings all the paparazzi to the yard. I enjoyed this one, probably not as much as the first two or the novellas but it was good. I think it was mainly Molly I had issues with. I didn't care for her personality she just came off as way to self centered more so at the beginning of the book by the end she wasn't as bad. Wyatt is completely drool worthy he is loyal, he's the quiet one, the one that stays out of the limelight, and kind of  mysterious. I loved his inner conflict, his own demons that he has been quietly dealing with. Then you have the spontaneous appearance of the teenager and I really don't get the why of her character.

Molly and Wyatt had an affair years ago, shortly before she became famous. It was a no names affair with an very short expiration date. Their time together may have been short but neither of them could forget it. Now Molly's career is in tatters and her hope for career redemption is exploiting, I mean making a movie based on Alex and Eli's story (Playing with Fire). Eli and Wyatt are in agreement about that, No. Molly is determined to have her way but the sudden appearance of some serious family drama in the form of Roni has Molly rethinking her plan. Molly is so focused on her getting back in the good graces of her critics that it messes with her feelings for Wyatt she ends up playing push you/pull you with him almost throughout the whole book.

How appropriate that a woman whose life is in the spotlight falls in love with a guy who stays out of it. Both Molly and Wyatt have a lot to deal with, both internal conflict and in the form of the narcissistic self important ex-husband playboy of Molly's. Overall it was a good read not my favorite but still a fun and sexy read.      

 

ARC REVIEW Playing with Fire by Kate Meader

Playing with Fire book two in Kate Meader's Hot in Chicago series about the family at Engine no. 6. (Releases 9/29/15) I have been waiting for this one since the page where they were first introduced in Flirting with Fire. Alex and Eli were a powder keg ready to explode. Sexual tension that lasted through one book and a novella. This is a really good series and this book such a good read.

Alex has had share of tragedy and growing up in a family of mainly guys, then getting a job that is predominately guys she is strong physically but mentally it's wearing her out. She is tired of being alone and is actively looking for a steady relationship her only problem is that most of her dates don't get past the first date. Eli's past is no secret he even used it to his benefit in getting elected as Mayor. What everyone doesn't know is the truth about this father, it's a that he is trying to keep hidden. Only one other person knows, Sam Cochrane, and the Trump wannabe is basically blackmailing him so he can get past certain city restrictions.

They butted heads when they first meet, especially since Eli stuck his foot in his mouth when he said that women have no place working as a firefighters. It seemed like no matter how attracted they are to each other when ever they got near one another they would fight. But that all changed when Eli got stuck in a hotel fire and Alex was there to rescue him. Eli didn't make it easy and she risked her life even more when she took off her mask to give him air. They ended up saving each other. Eli finally admits to himself he has feelings for her and is scared to just ask her out. He uses this PR opportunity to date her and kinda blackmails her by saying Cochrane is threatening to sue her but he will stop it if she does the fake/not fake dates with him.

Alex begrudgingly accepts but the more time she spends with him the more she sees the real him and and likes him; and the more he becomes turned on by her sometimes inappropriate mouth. As much as Alex's brothers hate that she has gotten involved with Eli they admit she is a big girl and she can handle herself. Eli confides in Alex everything and it all falls apart. Eli knowing he screwed up is trying to prove to Alex just how much she means to him and that he is willing to risk everything for the truth.

Overall, this is a smoldering book of smexy, heartache, and romance. I can't wait for the next one.

I think I just found a new must buy series. Flirting with Fire is book one in Kate Meader's series Hot in Chicago. She released a novella, Rekindle the Flame, in the anthology in Baby it's Cold Outside a prequel to the series and I loved that story. When I first finished the book I marked on Goodreads four stars, but after a few days the story has set with me and I am still thinking about it and with that I think I need to give it the extra star because it's really stuck with me. It's going to be one of those books that I will still be think about it months from now. On a personal note I have a soft spot for Fireman Romance, I grew up the daughter of a fireman and they always resonate with me. Luke is a hot headed but he his fiercely loyal to his family and his fire house; once scorned by his now ex-wife he is now jaded about love. Kinsey is career driven and it has already cost her one relationship one month before the wedding she gets dumped after moving halfway across the U.S. for him.

I love the chemistry and the comradery in the book and the sneak peek into future books about the other siblings. Luke is hot, my favorite kinda man, not afraid to back down and loyal almost to a fault. Kinsey is doubtful of her own ability to keep an man, thinking all men say they want a strong woman until they live with one for a while then change their minds and want a soft biddable woman, much of what her former fiance did to her. Luke soon realizes where his life is going and what he needs to do to get back on a path that is best for him, now he just has to convince Kinsey that she is pivotal to his happiness. The next book is Playing with Fire and I can't wait!!
