ARC REVIEW Giving it All by Christi Barth

Naked Men book three, and I have to say I think so far this one is my favorite. Logan is more complex than the other guys, he's not as selfish as some of the others guys seem, in a crazy way he is unselfish to the point of being selfish. Yes it's weird and an oxymoron but he has sacrificed so much to help others and his relationship with his father has suffered for it and his friends rarely get to see him anymore he's always off in some third world country helping them recover after natural disasters. But he's so dead set on helping other people his own life is practically barren but he won't give it up he has to be the one there helping or else it doesn't feel like he's helping at all.

Logan's world has had a monkey wrench thrown in it when he found out about a sister he never knew he had, and rushing back to the states to try and repair the disaster of a first meeting when a hurricane strands him in the Caribbean. Brooke Gallagher needed a break from her life she went for a paradise vacation and got caught in a hurricane. Brooke left her home ec teaching/ cheerleader coach job at the high school after something tragic happened and she could no longer stomach the idea of being on influence on young people's lives and her boyfriend left her because if it. Logan and Brooke were really good friends in high school, they both had crushes on each other but timing was never on their side. But now years later both stranded on a tropical island together during a hurricane they agree to give into the lust.

When they get back to D.C. Logan sticks his foot in his mouth and ends up with a black eye and no desire to stay at the house with the other guys. Brooke is there and offers him her spare room. Even though they both said what happens on the island stays on the island but when they get near each other they can't keep their hands off of each other. Brooke and Logan are trying to work through their own problems but Logan is a great listener and helps Brooke put things in perspective and vise versa, but Logan is a little bit more stubborn and he doesn't want to give up the way he is living to take over the company for his father and not for Brooke either.

Overall, definitely my favorite of the three so far.

ARC REVIEW The Order of the Senary Books 1 and 2 by L.D. Rose

Book one of the series Releasing the Demons by L.D. Rose. WOW, I am so glad I read this. I love it when vampires are the villains, really I mean if vampires are undead they have no soul and can't be good. If comparing book series (normally I hate to do that but with a new author, for me, and a new series sometimes it is the best way to get the feel of the book across) I would put this up there with Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series and a much better than Black Dagger Brotherhood. The book was well written and very engaging. The active setting for this dystopian post vampire apocalypse was fantastic. I could easily picture a deserted vampire ridden Manhattan, it was chilling. I kind of liked the fact that it was slow to release information about the Order of the Senary, it puts you in Valerie's shoes you find out as she does and still leaves more for us to uncover, but it did feel like there is supposed to be a book before this. I loved the characters, all of them, each of the guys involved in the Order are unique they all have different personalities and stuff but they are bonded but blood and have a common goal protect humans and kill vampires. The villains were truly evil and horrid individuals, as they should be.

Valerie is a NYPD Detective in the unit designated for vampire victims, and she is on the hunt for the person who killed and burned a young woman. All evidence points her the mysterious Blaze Knight. Blaze survived hell, six months being tortured and tormented by a vampire named Cyrus, five years later Blaze is still coping with the nightmares. Cyrus escaped all those years ago but for some reason he's back and he has targeted everyone Blaze has come into contact with especailly a beautiful young detective. The only way to keep Valerie safe is to tell her everything about his brothers and the Order of the Senary. Blaze is drawn to Valerie and protecting her from the likes of Cyrus has become his number one priority. As much as Valerie wanted to hate and blame Blaze for the murder she admits she was wrong and the romance between them flares.

Overall, this book is such a winner! I really enjoyed this. It does get violent and graphic but hey, I love that stuff, I'm morbid that way.

Black Bullet is the second book in the series. It follows JJ or Jon, whom we met briefly in the first book. Jon is a vampire, but when he was dying two of the Knights were able to keep him from becoming an evil vampire minion by keeping his soul in his body. (kind of like Angel) Jon's backstory goes back before Releasing the Demons. This book goes into more depth and detail about the Knights and the Order of the Senary and the who, what, why, and how of them. Once again I was sucked into the story and the setting and it was wow.

The vampire who killed Jon is dead, but his twin brother Reign is back and wants revenge, that is unless Jon finds him first. But Jon isn't the only one tracking this psychotic vampire Lawan has reasons of her own for wanting the maniac dead. Lawan appearance has everyone surprised she is one of them, a genetically created hybrid. Jon is amazed by the lost Knight sister and is completely taken by the woman's grace, beauty, and fighting ability. His need to help and protect her is almost as much as his lust for her. Lawan does not trust easy and thinks Jon has an ulterior motive she has a hard time seeing past his black vampire eyes at first but Jon is nothing if not persistent and eventually wears her down and she lets him into her heart.

Old demons, bad blood, torture and one angry kitten is it more than Lawan and Jon can handle? or can their love conquer all. Overall, damn good book. Yes still graphic and violent that's one of the reasons I liked it so much. I really can not wait for Rome's story.

OMG!

I can't believe it's over, it can't be over!
Once again Mimi Jean Pamfiloff blows my mind. Mia and King's story wasn't quite over and at the end of Mack King was back to his evil self. Mia finds out that King has no memory of her at all. But just like before King becomes enthralled by Mia and will do anything to possess her. As much as she loves King she is will to kill him to save the life of their son, to protect him from The Ten Club. King has been restoring the worst evil in the ranks of The Ten Club so he can control everything.

Mack, Teddy, and Mia need to work fast to take out not just King but the whole of The Ten Club. But once again just when everything couldn't get worse a turn of fate intervenes.

Overall, I love this book and this series so much. It was perhaps one of the best endings to a series I've ever read. I have learned never to expect the norm with Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's books. She always manages to surprise me with every turn. Her writing is snarky and smart, sexy and dangerous. There is no asshole quite like King and I'm going to miss him. It was one hell of a ride.

ANY TIME, ANY PLACE by Jennifer Probst

Billionaire Builders, #2

BLURB:

HGTV’s Property Brothers meets The Marriage Bargain in this second volume in the Billionaire Builders series, an all-new heart-wrenching and sexy contemporary romance from New York Times bestselling author Jennifer Probst.

The bigger shock was the discovery of a woman with him—Diana Pierce—and their two fully packed suitcases with airline tickets to Paris. Devastated by her father’s betrayal, Raven went to live with her aunt, never truly overcoming the traumatic event. When she discovers that the mysterious woman had a family with a husband and three boys, Raven vows to leave the memory of her father behind.  Leaving his life in California behind to run Pierce Construction with his two older brothers, Dalton Pierce has enjoyed returning home and studying his passion of woodworking. Unfortunately, she doesn’t seem as intrigued by him, and his multiple advances are met with rejection. When he offers to restore the bar back to its original glory, he begins to work with her on a daily basis, and falls harder. His plan of seduction slowly weaves a web around them both, until they are caught up in the spell. But Dalton doesn’t know the secret that can either destroy them both...or finally mend two broken hearts.

  ATAP_liveteaser2

Second book in Jennifer Probst's Billionaire Builders series is a little more serious the the first one. It deals with both Raven and Dalton dealing with the traumatic death of a loved one, one who they thought betrayed them. Raven's father was the man Dalton's mother was with when they died in a horrible car crash. Both thought the worst of the other Raven blamed Dalton's mother and hated the family for ruining her father name and reputation in the artistic community. All of the Pierce family placed the blame on the man who stole away the beloved Diana Pierce.
Wonderfully written as always, a nice blend of chic, humor, romance and a bit of angst. Raven and Dalton both have plenty of layers giving them more depth and dimensions and making them seem very realistic. It can be read as a stand-alone which is always nice when you come into an established series and it connects Jennifer Probst other series that recently ended, Searching For, It was a nice touch especially since Izzy pops in.
Dalton and Raven are great together with plenty of similar interest and just enough differences to make it interesting. Dalton can't figure out Raven and why she hates him so much but he can't stay away from her or her bar, a lovely antique piece that is just begging him to restore it. Dalton gets his wish when Raven's restaurant is getting a article in a magazine and Raven needs the restaurant and bar restored so it looks good in the pictures. Raven figures this is the best time to learn more about the woman who ruined her life. But what she learns is nothing like what she she thought and the closer she gets to Dalton the more she falls in love. But will the truth of their connected past bring them closer together or will it tear them apart.

Overall, a great read. I love just about every Jennifer Probst writes and I have to say I love this one more than the first book of the series.

ARC REVIEW Lady Claire is All That by Maya Rodale

I jumped into this series at this book I haven't read any other books by Maya Rodale and I have to say I like what I read. The whole premise of taking movies and giving them the regency twist caught my attention, especially since She's All That is a modernized version of Pygmalion and My Fair Lady. I really want to go back and read the other two book this was a fun book. Maya Rodale she has a great narrative and active setting. It was a really entertaining book much like the movie. Like the movie She's All That but unlike the other two it all starts with a spurned man trying to prove he can make any girl the diamond of the ball and falling into a stupid bet with a friend. The object of Lord Fox's bet is the American blue stocking Claire Cavendishes.

Lord Fox is a dandy, he is always impeccably dressed in the best fashions, knows all the right people and was set to marry the perfect society wife, until she jilted him and eloped with someone else; an actor. Claire was only looking forward to moving to London for one reason meeting one of the finest mathematical minds ever. She doesn't care one bit about all the dandies and the ignorance of the ton she just cares about mathematics. Fox trying to win his bet agrees to introduce her to the Duke she has been wanting to meet. Fox also agrees to take her to some lectures and because she's "just a woman" he helps get her in discussions. Claire doesn't know why Fox has decided to pay attention to her but she doesn't care as long as she gets to talk about math she's happy, but the more he spends around her integrating her into society the more she starts to like him. Fox doesn't like math, he doesn't understand anything about it but the more time he spends with Claire the more jealous he gets over her. But the bet that he knows he never should have made is pulling him at the seams. He has fallen in love with Claire is he ready to lose the bet for her.

Overall it plays out pretty much like the movie, it's cute and kind of aggravating in the way good stories do.

ARC REVIEW Lord Sebastian's Secret by Jane Ashford

Book three of Jane Ashford's The Duke's Sons series. This one follows Sebastian (obviously) and Georgina. They met and engaged in the previous book if you haven't read it you really don't miss much pertaining to them. Sebastian has come to Georgina's family home to get to know the family before the wedding. Georgina is worried that they will find her unacceptable because of her eccentric family. But Sebastian has his own worries between Georgina's headstrong younger sisters bombarding him with questions about London and her father who undoubtedly thinks he's too stupid to marry his daughter, Sebastian is hiding a secret of his own.

This was a quick and easy read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think I've liked this more than the first two in the series but not more than the prequel novella. Sebastian is the athletic type who had trouble in school and Georgina is the beautiful bluestocking. It would seem like an unlikely match but what attracted them to each other went beyond looks. Sebastian listened to Georgina when she talked about the things she enjoyed and to Sebastian Georgina was everything he ever wanted she was not just beautiful but she is caring and loving; and smart maybe even too smart for him. They were just a great couple and they just grew together throughout the book.

But the long six week wait until the wedding wasn't all easy. They dealt with a spurned suitor, an impatient little sister, a horde of pugs, and a governess with illusions of grandeur. Overall this was a very entertaining and romantic book and I have to say I loved what Sebastian's secret was, you don't see much of that.

ARC REVIEW Absolute Trust by Piper J. Drake

Jumping into the True Heroes series in book three, never read the first two and now I want to. It's fine as a stand-alone but if feel like I missed out on some good sexual tension between Brandon and Sophie.
This was a great story, it started with a bang, really a car exploded. Not only is the sexual tension great but the action and suspense build it's own tension that holds it's own. It was an exciting story that captured my attention and kept it.

Brandon and Sophie have known each other for most of their lives. They dated in high school but then abruptly Brandon joins the military, without a word he's gone. Over the years though they have remained friends even though they both long for something more but unsure of how the other feels and for reason of their own have avoided any meaningful relationships. Brandon came back changed, more closed off and serious with one goal in mind to operate a rehab and training facility for retired military dogs. Sophie has lived the life her father has wasn't her to live and as much as she loves numbers she has been rethinking her whole life's plan especially since something funny is going on at work. Brandon and Sophie reconnected when he got back but both were determined to stay friends. That all changes when Sophie's car explodes almost killing her, if Brandon's medically discharged german shepherd, Hayden, who he's been training and rehabilitating hadn't detected the explosive device in the car it would have killed her. Hayden is a special dog he lost part of a front leg in an IED explosion and Brandon is working his physical therapy and training him to walk on a prosthetic leg. Brandon assumes that Sophie has been targeted by some of his enemies, Brandon and his two friends who also work for Hope's Crossing Kennels start to follow any lead that could tell them who was responsible.

The car bomb scared Brandon enough that he vows to protect Sophie no matter what, but all the time together is wearing on their resistance. They are opening up about the past and what happened after graduation and about how they really feel but can't act on it. But eventually they do. And it turns out the car bombing was just the start and that it was just the opening Brandon's enemies needed to track him down, so they are not just dealing with one badie out there and Brandon will lay down his life if he has to to protect the woman he has loved all his life.

Overall, it was a great story. I want to go back and read the first two.

ARC REVIEW Wolf Unleashed by Paige Tyler

I absolutely love this series. These guys are hot! But this book does need to come with a warning. If you love dogs, and get upset when bad things happen to dogs in books you might want to skip this one. It has some harsh moments with dog fighting rings and what happens to the dogs afterward. Other than that Fantastic book. This book just really hit the spot with my PNR/Action/Suspense reading needs.

Alex is one hot tamale, and when he falls he falls fast one look at the veterinarian who has been working with DPD's new Animal Cruelty Squad and he's a gonner. Lacey doesn't want a relationship, she watched her mother self destruct over men and has been raising her little sister all on her own. She is concentrating on getting her sister through college before she even wants to start thinking about her love life. But in walks Alex all sexy and a drop dead gorgeous smile not to mention he had the adopted pit bull mix, Tuffie, with him. No matter how easy he is to flirt with or talk to or how good he is with animals or how she can't stop thinking about him or how he won't give up asking her out, Lacey keeps turning him down, determined not to date yet. Finally after both her sister and her best friend tell her there is no time like the present, and that not all men are like the losers her mom dated she finally agrees to go out with Alex. ohhh Fireworks! That is until she finds out what he is.

Unfortunately, life intercedes. Alex is working a case with the DEA trying to track down a new and deadly drug on the streets which seems to also connect to a string of missing girls from the local colleges. Lacey has problems of her own when a dogfighting ring has ties back to a very powerful player in the city. The shit really hits the fan when Lacey's sister goes missing and the only one she can turn to for help is Alex.

Overall, such a great book, so intense at parts and Lacey and Alex together when they finally get together is well hot to say the least.

ARC REVIEW Hunt the Dawn by Abbie Roads

So fantastic, Abbie Roads has nailed the dark, disturbing, and sexy. What's nice is that you don't have to read the first book of the series, Race the Darkness, in order to read this one; it helps but it's not required. This book was everything I hoped for and more when I thought about Lathan story. Evanee I really love her, she did what she had to do to survive and even when at her lowest it didn't stop her.

Lathan is unbelievable with his overactive olfactory being able to see memories and feelings from a person's smell. He works with the FBI as a special consultant he helps track down killers and he's one the path of one who is constantly changing his MO but the nose knows and Lathan knows all these victims were killed by the same person. Lathan because of his talent doesn't get close to people for the exception of one, his childhood friend and FBI contact. Evanee is working at a truck stop diner surviving on tips trying to avoid the pervert who has been harassing her. Evanee's car stops working she pulls off into a rest stop and who should show up but her step brother the pervert. Lathan happen to be riding by and he smelled Evanee's fear he pulls over to help. Everything about about Evanee calls to Lathan, he instinctually trusts her and knows he must protect her at all costs. Evanee is in shock by the time the stranger rescues her she allows him to take her to his home until she feels better. Evanee, like Lathan, trusts him she knows that she should know better but it's an instinctual need to be with him. Lathan can drop his guard around her and not get bombarded with scent memories. Evanee, on the other hand, her dreams start getting worse, she's connecting with the murdered victims in Lathan's case and leads to evidence. The serial killer figures out who but not how, but at all costs he must stop Lathan from exposing him so he focus on the person closest to Lathan; Evanee.

Overall, this truly exceeded my expectations for the book.

ARC REVIEW Riding High by Stacy Finz

Book 8 already! Wow! Riding High bring together Gia Treadwell who we meet in the last book as a financial genius who was swept off her feet by a scheming con-man who stole a butt load of money and ruined her professional reputation. And although the grand jury acquitted her the FBI still has her in sights to find her ex-boyfriend swindler who has disappeared with the millions he took. Flynn is a former FBI turned private practice lawyer/rancher and his family has been leasing the land she bought for graze land. Flynn, although he knows innocent until proven guilty, can't help but be sceptic about Gia's intentions. Flynn is soon confused by what he's read about her and how she acts, then again she pulled a rifle on him the first time they meet. This book also reinforced why I dislike the character Clay so much. There is a side story (which is typical for this series) of Clay and Emily, no spoilers, but he continues to be a complete ass.

Gia needed to get away from everything in her old life and to finally do something she really believes in, that is why she liquidated all her assets to have enough money to buy the ranch. Gia is now earning her money in day trading, going back to where she started. Unfortunately the FBI is still trying to pin her down so she can give them information on her ex to the point of harassment. She hires Flynn to help keep the wolves at bay, it isn't until then that he starts realize there is so much more to Gia then he ever thought, so much more than she ever let anyone see when she was a celebrity. While Gia tries to get her new homestead up and running and earning money and starting on her special project she is falling in love with Flynn, even with as gun shy as she is about trusting her heart again Flynn is a good guy and she can't help but fall in love. Flynn is taken with her beauty, impressed by her intelligence and despite trying to remain impartial he can't help but stand up for her and stand by her and fall in love with her.

Overall, another great Nugget Romance! P.s. I really do dislike Clay.

ARC REVIEW Campbell's Redemption by Sharon Cullen

Yea! Sharon Cullen's book three of her Highland Pride series. Iain Campbell and his "English sympathies" are fully explained. I knew Iain's story would be a good one, mysterious Lord who helps out his fellow Scottish people behind closed doors but plays nice nice to the brutal English army. It takes place a short time after the other books, after Culloden when the British were using any means necessary to control the Scottish rebellion and abusing the power they had. The people of Scotland were split in two groups, people who were tired of persecution and just wanted to be left alone and those who wanted to fight back and get Scotland back from British control. Iain was working both sides, he used his British birth right and connections to help the rebels where he could, all without their knowledge. They viewed him as a traitor and he was fine with that he helped where he could and hated the English just as much as his people. Cait hated Iain, she hated the fact that her husband was so loyal to Iain that he died protecting Iain. Cait is a healer and she will turn noone away not even the English soldiers her impartialness allowed a bit of leeway when it came to her they left her alone for the most part. But that was just a show for the English she helped the rebels hide out until they could escape on the ship to Canada.

Iain needed the help of Cait on of his men had been shot and she was the closest healer. He hasn't seen her since her husband's death he felt to guilty that he couldn't save him, that he died taking an arrow meant for Iain. Finally after five years Iain has the chance to apologize and he's going to start fulfilling his promise to look out for her. Cait doesn't want or need help from Iain or even her own stubborn Grandfather's who basically disowned her after she married. But now someone is going around killing English soldiers on Campbell land and very close to Cait's house it's causing the English to look a little to close at her. Iain is falling in love with Cait and when one English soldier tries to take liberties Iain is there to protect her he' willing to risk it all even if it means leaving her all alone again.

Overall it was a good story so very enjoyable, very emotional there at the end.

ARC REVIEW Diffraction by Jess Anastani

OMG! My first read of the new year and wow. I love this series, it is best if you read all books in order because the main story arc that continues throughout all the books. Diffraction is no different from the first two books, it has a great emotional connection between all the characters and nice chemistry between the two main characters. There is great external conflict between Varean and various other characters and Varean's internal struggle with himself; what he's been hiding all of his life gave the character so much more depth. Kira much like everyone else on board the Imojenna has a past she'd rather not remember or think about. Continued through the story along with the silent war on the Reidar is Rian and Ella's hectic love/hate romance. Love that I hope their book is soon, stop teasing us Jess Anastasi, PLEASE!

Kira's path up 'till now has been clear keep everyone alive and help defeat the Reidar but when a soldier is brought on board because he reacts strangely to the new weapon the use to expose the shapeshifting Reidar. Rian and the crew automatically assume he's a spy and the enemy but to Kira she sees something different she thinks she knows what happened and why he reacts the way he does but she needs to keep him alive long enough to find out for sure; that's if Callen and Rian stop beating the crap out him long enough for her to run some tests. When Kira finally gets around to being able to convince Varean to give a blood sample and to start the test Rian is backstabbed and the crew must abandon the Imojenna. Split into two groups they each have their own missions to complete before meeting at the rendezvous point later. Kira knows this is her only chance to get to a real hospital and run the test, but what the tests say is something so completely different from what she thought. ( I was half right with my guess). With the new information Kira and Varean face a decision and even though both of them fell in love they make the wrong choice that they both realize days later. But another betrayal has Varean rushing to save her before he's had the chance to tell her he loves her.

This book is so jam packed with everything. I can't believe Jess Anastasi even went as far as she did it left me awestruck at what happened in this book. I can't wait for the next one! Overall this book just continues with the awesome.

ARC REVIEW Luke by R.C. Ryan

First time reader of R.C. Ryan and even though this is the second book of the series it can be read as a stand-alone. I enjoyed this book I loved the characters the plot was enjoyable and very well done. Luke is a knight-errant in a Stenson, if you are looking for an adventurous, daredevil cowboy who isn't going to turn away someone he cares about this is the cowboy you are looking for. Ingrid is a headstrong rancher determined not to lose her family's legacy. Unfortunately her father's untimely death left her mother with the property and left Ingrid and her little sister with the cattle. Ingrid just needs to make it until the spring when she can sell off the herd and buy her birthright from her horrible mother.

Strange things have been happening around Ingrid's property like a fire, someone poisoning her dog; Ingrid is stretched to her limit on keeping things together and her mother's money grubbing hands are not helping. When Luke is photographing a wild herd of mustangs a rifle shot spooks the horses and knocks him off his horse and bangs his head. Ingrid finds him and even though she thinks he's the one who took the shot she takes him back home to tend to his wounds. It's a couple of days before Luke is up and moving around again but one thing he knows for sure is that he can not leave Ingrid alone with her sister and an older, should be retired by now, ranch hand to deal with a pushy neighbor and suspicious activities. Ingrid is suspicious of Luke she doesn't know his motives and assumes her mother's "honky tonk angel" ways will seduce Luke just like every other man around. Luke only has eyes for Ingrid and he's going to work hard to prove to her that he's not going anywhere as long as she needs him. The suspicious activities start to escalate and the sexual tension between Luke and Ingrid intensifies until Ingrid finally gives in and soon realizes she loves him.

I love the fact that right off the bat the prologue establishes just how far Luke is willing to go to help those he loves. I loved that the harder Ingrid wanted to hate Luke the more she loved him. I loved Gracie "Lil'bit" The end was really good a nice climatic ending. Overall a great read.
