REVIEW Made For You: by Lauren Layne

The Best Mistake book two is just a good as the first one. What I loved about this is that even if you haven't read the first book it goes back over their entire past, even what happened in the first book, so you get the full picture of their relationship. I love the opposites attract trope especially when it comes to Brynn and Will with such a deep hidden attraction between them it's funny to read. Brynn who appeared so stuffy and slightly bit of a Bitch is shown in a different light, you learn why she acts the way she acts and how good Will is for her. Will is such a sexy lust worthy man, a bit of a player but when it comes to his relationship with Brynn he couldn't be anymore serious or sensual.

From High School to current Will and Brynn have bickered and snipped at each other, outwardly they hate each other. Will has always loved Brynn from when she was a beautiful young well put together cheerleader. But Brynn still suffering self esteem issues didn't know how to handle it when the hottest guy in school started to flirt. Will had his chance with Brynn when she finally admitted she wanted Will, but only seeing him as a lazy and as a ladies man she never thought it would be more than once, just an inch to scratch. Will is obviously hurt by the news and leaves town.

Three years later, Will is back in town and Brynn's current boyfriend of two years just broke up with her. Brynn has a bit of an identity crisis chops of all her hair dies it dark from her glorious blond and buys some new casual clothes so different from her snazzy matching outfits. As part of her wild side she agrees to an affair with her new neighbor, Will. Will shows Brynn that spontaneity can be a good thing. Will also learns the why of Brynn's ice princess attitude and tries his best to melt his way past it. Brynn also learns that she doesn't know Will like she thought she did all because she tried to push him away it all changes when they become intimate. But Brynn is scared of the uncertainty that comes with a relationship with Will and break it off, to revert back to the way she was. Will knows he loves Brynn but unless she can face what she really wants he can't be around her, because it hurts to much. I loved reading about Brynn and Will. I hope the next book is about Gray's sister.

REVIEW Penumbra by Keri Arthur

Penumbra: Book Three in the Spook Squad. I would be so happy if their was more of these in the future. As always it is action packed with plenty of stuff going on. The ending was satisfying but leaves you wanting more.  Sam Ryan and Gabriel Stern are back and this time no longer partners. Sam reassigned to guard the clone government minister Dan Wetherton. Gabriel happy about having Sam reassigned but pissed that she was put on protection duty of a man who will put her in direct line of the people who want her. Sam has been having dreams filling in the blanks on her past and the man who is the missing link between her future potential and her past. Gabe is working trying to find out  who has been killing more people and protecting Sam at the same time. Sam has had enough with hiding and is putting herself in plain site daring the scientist to come and get her. Sam still thinking Gabe wants nothing to do with her is trying to move past her feelings but things keep happening showing her just what Gabe wants. The ominous Joe Black keeps inserting himself in Sam's life and more Sam learns about her past the more questions it raises. Just who is Dan Wetherton? Who is Joe Black? Who keeps killing people associated with the failed and closed down experiment called Penumbra?

Gabe and Sam finally work together to make sure that Penumbra stays closed and with Sam's past fully recovered and her powers fully back as well can mean so much more than anyone ever thought.

Review Reprise:  the first two Books in the Spook Squad series previously posted on my old blog.

Memory Zero: by Keri Arthur book one in the Spook Squad series originally published ten years ago. A futuristic, scif-fi, paranormal, mystery, urban fantasy really everything I love in one book. A well written story by Keri Arthur, I have seen her books around but never had the opportunity to read on until now and I'm glad I read this one. Sam is my favorite kind of character she is strong, snarky, doesn't know her own beauty and when the shit hits the fan she does what she does best and improvises. The story is an enigma wrapped in a mystery when one thing leads you down one path you end up somewhere completely different. Sam loves her job but when her partner goes missing her life turns upside down. Two week after his disappearance he calls her up to meet but what she finds is a man who says he is but isn't her partner and a strange monster that's starts to hunt her and a strange, large, handsome man who saves her. To make matters worse the not partner is a vampire bend on turning her she has no choice but to kill him before he kills her. Now because nobody believes that he was a vampire and his wife spilling lies about them having an affair she is suspended from duty. The spook squad has had their eye on her for some time so they bring her in for an "evaluation" but really they are testing her abilities and how it is she can do that groovy thing she does so well. Sam's life began at age fourteen nothing before then existed not even her memory. Gabriel Stern, the mysterious handsome large man who saved her from the flying monster is the one of the top men of the Special Investigations Unit, the "Spook Squad" , and he is determined to find out why Sam is different why she can tell the difference between the paranormal species and why the criminal mastermind is out for her. Gabriel is trying to protect Sam from those who want her but she just keeps going off on her own trying to solve what happened to her partner and her past slowly starts to reveal itself. It is revealed about just what Sam is but her past is still a mystery. Even after they thwarted the criminal mastermind and Sam's evil ex-partner Sam's still suspended and transferred permanently transferred to the spook squad and partnered with Gabriel. To be Continued in Generation 18.

Generation 18: by Keri Arthur A beautiful new cover for the re-release of Generation 18, book two of Keri Arthur's Spook Squad series. It picks up a little bit after the conclusion of Memory Zero where Gabriel and Sam have been partners for enough time to drive each other crazy. Gabriel pushing Sam away and keeping her at the office doing paper work and research trying to get her mad enough to ask for a transfer. The start up of a serial killer and kite monster attacks draws Sam out of the office and in to the playing field and into the line of fire. Gabriel is pushing her away because he has lost two partners in the past and he likes Sam way to much to risk losing her, but he has played the bastard to many times and risks losing her as more than just a partner. The evidence leads Sam and Gabriel to the Medical Military base knows as Hopewell. Hopewell has continually had medical experiments in the past and there are ties that might lead Sam to finding out her past. She has been having dreams about a boy named Joshua and is able to talk to the mysterious "Joe Black", the hobo looking hairy guy who helped her in the past, in dreams and he points her in the right direction for her own past and the rejects from Hopewell. The growing connection between Gabe and Sam is growing stronger, Gabe knows this and uses it to his advantage but only when Gabe is in trouble does Sam face that fact and use it to help find Gabe when he is kidnapped by the rejects. Sam whose body has been stunted at the age of sixteen has just started changing and has had her first period she is also experiencing newer and stronger powers. I really have been torturing myself with this series I have had all three books and I have been waiting until closer to review to read each one, at least it is only a months wait between each books. I am really enjoying this series with the yo-yoing between Sam and Gabe relationship and Sam always getting beat down and getting right back up to help and save the day. These are really enjoyable reads I can't wait to dig my claws in to Penumbra, which comes out next month.

REVIEW Madeline's Christmas Wish: by Ella Quinn

Ella Quinn's The Marriage Game 5.5 Madeleine's Christmas Wish was good but felt like it could have been more. It felt rushed to finish. The down time where the two characters have to themselves didn't seem like enough and it felt like something was missing from the beginning. I missed the one before this and if the missing part is in that book it should have been summarized a little for the unfortunate people who missed the last one. Other than that it has the same Ella Quinn style that I find enjoyable to read.

Madeleine was left in charge of her family with her brother missing presumed dead and her father dead presumed murdered. She was left in charge of the family winery but due to the rules of the new French government she needs a man for her to report to. He is a despicable, condescending statesman who knows nothing of her work. It is obvious he has an ulterior motive, just what Madeleine isn't sure of until the family receives orders that a virgin must leave the house and go to a London whorehouse in payment. To save her young sister Madeleine herself goes.

Georges,Marquis Cruzy-le-Châtel, and his family fled France early on to avoid the war. Georges became a spy for the English, and when he learn that the woman he was betrothed to as a child was being smuggled into England he recruits friends to help intercept her and saves her from a horrible life in a brothel. After saving Madeleine all she wants is to return to her family in time for Christmas. Traveling across France incognito Georges and Madeleine marry to help save her family lands and her reputation. Madeleine thinks it will just be in name only until Georges starts to woo her. Spending time again with her childhood friend and old flame rekindles old feelings but she hold no hope in Georges wishes and her wishes are the same.

Overall it was a good read, and a nice filler story for Georges. I would recommend this especially if you have read all the other books.

The Unforgivable Fix: by T.E. Woods

The newest novel from T.E. Woods another outstanding Justice novel. I swear these just keep getting better. Mort and Lydia come together again this time to fight something a little closer to home. If my hands hadn't been holding my tablet I would have been wringing my hands the entire five hours it took me to read this book. I was so emotionally involved in this story I put it down for nothing. (Lucky the kids were at school at the time) This is the kind of series that is best if you have read the other books, you can still enjoy it if you haven't but really think about reading the first two before it just makes it smoother and less confusing when you start this one.

Seattle detective Mort Grant has finally decided to sell the family house. He is finally letting go of all the memories attached to the house and move on. Lydia after listening to Mort once again tell her she needs to get out and move on as well. Keeping his advice in mind when an old friends calls and asks if she con take on a temp partner who needs to clock in time with patients. Lydia opens her office again and opens it to patients. Lydia faces her own problems when the unlicensed doctor working under her starts to have some unusual dealings with his cases. When a high standing social figure is charged with sexually abusing his step daughter and the girls biological father goes to Lydia for help things start to get messy for The Fixer.

Mort's missing daughter Allie has gotten involved with some very shady characters and now is on the run from them; she runs to Dad. After being gone for almost five years Allie shows up knowing her Dad can help. Mort asks Lydia if they can stay with her until they get things situated with the very bad people after Allie. Lydia has an instant dislike to Allie, she can't really explain why. It's a mix of jealousy of having Mort as a father, such a devoted and loving father like him, and their is something off putting about her and her ability to manipulate people to her will. Lydia doesn't want Allie in her house because she doesn't want her to discover that she is the Fixer.

Allie plays at the poor daughter, but she really is a master manipulator. She knows she got her self into this mess and she is using Mort and her lovers enemies to her advantage. Unfortunately her actions lead to more than Mort can handle. This book had me suffering from a major book hangover.

Chasing Temptation: by Joya Ryan

Chasing Temptation is an entertaining read, a little predictable but good none the less. It's a quick read took me no time at all to finish the book; it was a perfect length for the story. The characters are not unique Penny is the typical "girl next door" with a deep need to be bad and Sebastian is the typical big bad lawyer with a not so deep dark sexual appetite with an unrequited love for his best friends little sister. But we love those those type of characters so that's not to bad. With all that being said if you wanna take a chance on it go for it, it just didn't click with me as more than 3 stars.

Penny is tired of her over protective big brother scaring away all the guys she has dated, which has lead to a very boring sex life. Her friends combined bachelorette/bachelor party is just the time to initiate "Operation Orgasm" and seduce the one man she has lusted over for so long and knows from rumors that he is precisely the man to full fill her sexual needs. Sebastian tries to avoid Penny, who fills his thoughts and fantasies. Penny, who is a forbidden fruit little sister of his best friend. He has successfully avoids her until she shows up trussed up like a sex kitten and challenges him. He gives in to her and gives her two weeks to give her all the sexual satisfaction she can handle.

Penny and Sebastian agree to keep it all under raps, mainly to avoid her big brothers over protective meddling. All the while having their steamy hot BDSM filled erotic affair their friends are constantly trying to set them up with other people. Penny and Sebastian fight with jealousy, each other, and their feelings for each other before a totally romantic and sweet ending.

TILL DEATH (#1, Logan's Lonestar Heroes)

Blurb:

Dave Logan, owner of Deep Six Security, is stunned when former Dallas FBI head, Susan Whitmore, darkens his doorstep accusing him of being the cause of her losing her job. After hearing her situation, Dave feels something he never expects to feel--sorry for her. But he also knows any problems she had at the agency were all her own fault. The woman has a tongue so sharp it could rip a man to shreds, and had many times. There was a reason her agents dubbed her the Barracuda.

Although Dave needs agents in the worst way, and Susan, with an IQ higher than Einstein, better skills and more experience than any of his men, along with a master's degree in criminal justice, is more than qualified to be a member of his team, he just doesn't need the drama she and her mouth would bring to Deep Six . Even as his brain said no way though, his damned white-knight complex forces him to offer her a job as his temporary secretary.

Realizing he's made a huge mistake hiring her, Dave calls in favors to get her interviews to get her out of his office. Before he can get rid of her though, Dave gets a new case only Susan can help him with. A wealthy Dallas oilman and his trophy wife ordered a designer baby from a local fertility clinic, and the surrogate has gone missing with the baby. The couple wants Deep Six Security to investigate the facility and find the baby, but the only way Dave can do that is to get inside. To get inside his only option is to go undercover with Susan, posing as a wealthy married couple looking for a baby. What they find when they get to the spa-like compound is frightening. Payoffs, missing surrogates and young women being used as lab rats are just the tip of the iceberg.

Can two alpha personalities, both used to being in charge, work together long enough to figure out what's going on at the clinic, or will they kill each other before the bad guys at the facility have a chance? If they're lucky, perhaps the delicious friction between them will turn into something so hot the place spontaneously combusts, or maybe if they're luckier it will turn into something which might just last till death do them part.

Amazon ** Barnes and Noble ** Kobo ** iTunes ** ARe

About YOU OWN ME: It had always been her… Ten years had passed since the doors slammed shut behind Decker Calhoun, taking away his freedom, but more importantly, locking him away from Elizabeth Waters, the only woman he’d ever loved—the woman he’d given up everything for. The day he was sentenced, he’d looked at her and said, No regrets, Lizzie. But he lied, because he did have one. Although he’s been out of jail for three years now, he was a year too late. Lizzie never knew how he felt and just months before he was released, she found somebody else and it’s too late. Or maybe not. It seems that Lizzie’s boyfriend wants an open relationship and two can play at that game. Now all Decker has to do is convince Lizzie that he’s the better man…and has been all along.

Snarling, he tore his mouth from hers and jerked away, sitting at the far end of the futon. With hands that shook, he rubbed at his face.
Son of a bitch
“Lizzie…fuck. I’m sorry.”
A harsh intake of breath reached his ears and the last thing he wanted to do was face her, but that was what he made himself do.
The minute he turned his head to look at her, she surged up off the futon, moving across the small office to stand by her desk, head bowed, arms wrapped around herself. “Get out,” she said, her voice quiet.
Too quiet.
“Lizzie?”  Wincing, he climbed off the couch. “Look, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have—”
“Don’t.”  The word was pure steel and it caught him off-guard, for a second.
But just a second. Because while Lizzie was soft and sweet, under all of that, she was steel. She always had been—he’d figured that out when he hadn’t chased her off within the first few hours of meeting her. Now, as she turned and looked at him, tears glinted in her wide, dark brown eyes, but nothing could hide the fury, and the hurt, in those eyes.
Fuck, he thought miserably. Rising from the couch, he lifted a hand only to let it fall uselessly to his side. “Lizzie, I’m sorry. I didn’t—”
“I don’t want to hear it!” she shouted, cutting him off.
He had to duck to avoid the little potted orchid she sent flying his way. And damn, she still had a good throwing arm.
“Do you hear me?” she said, her voice starting to shake. “I don’t want to hear it, okay?  Nobody wants me. No fucking body. I’m fine as a doormat for Noel as long as I let him treat me like shit, but he doesn’t want me. Neither do you. I get it. Okay?”

Stunned shock rippled through him as she shoved her tumbled hair back from her flushed face. Her eyes shot sparks as their gazes clashed. “I get the point. You’re a fucking hound dog and I know that. But I’m not good en—”
He caught the rest of her words with his mouth and when she went to shove him back, he caught her wrists, too. Sinking his teeth into her lower lip, he backed her up against her desk. “Not want you?” he muttered against her mouth. “Are you blind?”
She tried to turn her head and he tangled a hand in her hair, yanked it back. Her pupils flared, her mouth falling open on a startled moan. “Give me your mouth, Lizzie,” he said and then, without waiting, he took it, thrusting his tongue deep.
She bit him and he responded by letting her wrists go and catching her hips, boosting her up with one arm while he used the other to swipe out against her desk, clearing it with one careless gesture. Lizzie worked her hands between them and although he didn’t break away from her mouth, part of him held his breath—waited.
When she reached up and tangled her hands in his hair, he snarled in savage satisfaction.
Lying her down on her desk, he broke away. Her hands clutched at him and he caught them, shifted her wrists to one hand and pushed them up over her head. Then, as he held her gaze, he reached down and freed the top button of the top she wore. With each successive button, he bared more and more skin, pale, pretty skin, lush curves, her breasts cupped by silk and lace and his brain almost exploded as he flicked a look from her face downward to study those ripe curves.
“My hands are shaking,” he said, struggling to keep his voice from doing the same as he trailed his fingers along the delicate lace design of her bra, watching as a soft blush pinked her flesh and started to climb upward. “I’ve dreamed about touching you a thousand times and now I am and my hands are shaking…”
Now he looked at her, watched her throat work as she swallowed.
“And you think I don’t want you.”

Change of Heart by Jude Deveraux

I am a fan of the Edilean series, but this one lacked the magic of the previous ones I have read. I did enjoy the first part which contained the original novella in the Holiday of Love anthology. Eli and Chelsea worked together to get Eli's mom out from under his dad's manipulative father even thought they have been divorced for some time, another manipulation caused by Eli and Chelsea. Eli has a pen pal in mind, a billionaire he meet on a class trip and kept in contact with. Miranda, Eli's mom, is a nurse and gets offered a job to nurse a rich man in his convalescence. Miranda has been picturing a kindly old man and is taken back when she discovers a ruggedly handsome man. Frank is taken back by the motherly and warm nurse send by his brother, he soon figures out she is his friend Eli's mother and that she was sent their to fall in love with him. Miranda is like no other woman Frank has ever met and very quickly falls in love. he almost blows it when his assistant shows up and plants a seed of doubt. Frank knows he is going to have to change if he wants to win Miranda back, and with Eli's help he just might be successful.

The second part of the story follows Eli and Chelsea grown up they have gone their separate ways and lost contact with each other. Eli has always loved Chelsea and her abandoning him as a teenager hurt him. He has kept track of her keeping an eye on her for when she was ready he would put himself out their for her again. Chelsea got off track in Eli's opinion, she became a model and did that whole scene but soon lost interest in that and just floated about doing things and dating random handsome men, when the latest one drops her she returns home and shortly after receives an invite to Eli's new home in Edilean, Virginia. Just to appease her parents she  goes but what she finds blows her mind. That's not the Eli she left all those years ago. But just like Frank and Miranda they have to work through their differences before either can admit to loving the other.

Over all the second half seemed rushed, I think the first part could have been left off and Eli and Chelsea's story could have gone a little slower and filled enough for it's own book.

Three months of Steve orchestrating one sexual indulgence after another--‪wicked distractions from the old boys' club Melody faces at work and Steve's growing responsibilities‬.

(short review today)

I am new to the series but very much enjoyed it. But my blonde was showing and it took me a while to realize the setting was in Canada. silly me. Although I did get lost in the large cast of characters only because I kept distracting myself wondering what their back story was, and wanting to go and read their book. I love second chance stories and this falls in my top ten. I like Vivian Arend's style and look forward to reading more books. The main story was Melody and Steve with a little hint at who the next book is going to be about.

Melody went with Steve willingly, around the side of the barn to where his truck and a horse trailer waited. He helped her into the driver side and she slid into the middle seat, checking her watch to make sure she didn’t get too far behind schedule. No way did she want another repeat of her hellish Monday.

“I’ve got thirty minutes tops, otherwise I need to phone the clinic and let them know I’ll be late.”

“You won’t be late,” he promised.

They rattled down a short side road but instead of turning toward the highway, Steve took them along a back trail that led through the trees into a clearing at the side of wide-open ranch land. Nothing lay before them but miles of low rolling hills. To the west, the Rocky Mountains rose above to the sky, the craggy peaks decorated with a tiny dusting of white in the highest cracks and crannies. The tree line broke off to expose granite greys and flashes of white quartz.

It was an amazing view, and she was glad it was something she got to see every day of her life.

She was still staring in admiration when Steve parked the truck and jerked open the door.

Melody followed him out, but couldn’t see any signs of an animal that needed attention.

“Do you want me to be a veterinary to the squirrels?” she teased.

He whirled, catching her under the hips and pulling her against his body so he could kiss her fiercely. Her back pressed against the cold metal of the horse trailer as his overheated body met hers.

“You’re driving me crazy,” he confessed when he finally let her breathe. “I’ve been aching to touch you since the weekend. I need to be inside you.”

Melody didn’t have the words to protest, especially not when he put his lips to her neck and sucked. A flash of heat went from his mouth through her entire system, and she clutched his shoulders.

She was in motion again, this time her feet on the ground as his hands scrambled at her belt buckle. “I want you right now,” he demanded.

The clock was ticking, but his hands were doing incredible things even as Melody tried to make the right decision.

“Oh, God. Here? You’re not serious, Steve, right out in the open—?”

He shoved her jeans down to her ankles. He stripped off his shirt, dropping it on top of the wheel guard of the trailer while she stood, pants around her ankles, admiring the broad bands of muscles on his torso.

Then she was on top of his shirt, her knees spread wide as he pulled her forward to his eager mouth. Her ankles were trapped together by her pants, but Steve didn’t seem to care.

Melody shoved her hands into his hair to catch her balance, but there was no catching her breath as he ate greedily. His tongue danced over her clit until she was gasping, the sound loud in contrast to the wind in the trees behind them. Everything that had to be done that day vanished as her world closed on this time, this place.
