ARC REVIEW Lord of Temptation by Erica Ridley

Rogues to Riches #4, I was looking forward to Hawk's book out of the friends he just seemed the most responsible and since Faith Digby was introduced and it was discovered she knew Hawk and acted like she despised him I knew they would end up together. I love second chance romance I don't think I'll ever get tired of them, but there is a secondary trope that I guess I have gotten sick of and that dragged the book down for me. Through most of the book I didn't like Faith she was very closed minded and kind of a bitch, by the end of the book I liked her a little better. Hawk I didn't like as much as I had hoped, nothing about him really stood out. Simon on the other hand made me love him even more.

Hawk is finally getting to the point where he can finally start making money and pay off the debts that were left to him by his father and by his guardian. His mother's health is at a decline and he can barely even afford to pay for the doctor. His half brother Simon is also becoming a more stable person in his life. Simon also brings Faith back into Hawk's life. Even after all this time Hawk still loves Faith, he feels guilty for letting his Mother and advisers talk him out of marrying her. Faith isn't going to let Hawk back into her life just because he apologise. Hawk isn't going to give up on her so easily, but winning her over and trying to convince her that she dowry has nothing to do why he wants her and that he never stopped loving her is going to be difficult. Faith has a secret she's been hiding from Hawk and when it comes out both their lives life will forever change.

Overall, not my favorite, but still a good read. I love Ridley's writing style it is always a quick read that flows easily.

Haven't read the first three books? Get them all in one fell swoop with the Rogues to Riches box set volume one.
Lord of Chance:
Anthony and Charlotte fell victim to the well known in Scotland but apparently not England law that if you announce yourself married boom you are legally married romance troupe. As tired of this troupe that I am this was cute and well executed. This has to be one of the best written books by Erica Ridley I ever read, the ending fell short for me but as a whole this story was really good.
Lord of Pleasure:
Lord of Pleasure is book two of Erica Ridley's new series Rogues to Riches. This is another great story by Erica Ridley, the characters are likeable and the whole situation is humorous. It's a fantastic Cinderella type story. Camellia is the perfect daughter she does as she's told, she sings when they want her too and what they want her to sing, she's also the sensible one, but her parents go too far when the arrange her marriage to a much older gentleman who doesn't even have the courtesy to actually ask her, then leaves for a month. Lord Wainwright, Michael, is tired of getting his image drawn as a caricature in the paper linking him to all sorts of gossip and rakish behaviour, sometimes it's true but he's tired of being made fun of, as a joke his friends bet him he couldn't stay out of the gossip column for 40 days.
Lord of Night:
A chance meeting on the streets of St. Giles Dahlia is saving a young girl from a man with nefarious purposes and Simon comes to their aid, from that night on Simon life is different. He stops by the school and visits with the girls even helps them learn how to dance and his attraction to Dahlia grows into love. Dahlia loves Simon with all her heart but she has to many secrets from him and as much as it hurts she can not risk her girls or his job for their love. After meeting Dahlia Simon realizes there are more things to life than just being a runner even coming to terms with his half brother and becoming friends with him. Dahlia has changed his outlook on life, but will all that change after he finds out who she really is? My new favorite. I love Simon so much.

ARC REVIEW What Are You Afraid Of? by Alexandra Ivy

The Agency #2, Another great romantic suspense from Alexandra Ivy. What Are You Afraid Of? is book two of  The Agency series which can be read as a stand alone. Griffin Archer sexy computer geek, software programmer, millionaire and delicate looking but tough journalist Carmen Jacobs whose claim to fame is her true crime non fiction Heart of the Predator in which she interviewed five serial killers and went over their cases. Carmen is on a well deserved break from her book tour in an isolated cabin in the woods. No one is suppose to know where she is and her publisher isn't suppose to forward any mail but that doesn't stop them a large brown envelope appears on her doorstep and as much as she want to ignore it she is curious by nature and opens it. Inside she finds fightenly familiar pictures, pictures so similar to the first serial killer in her book, but it couldn't be him he was already dead. When the local police won't take her seriously she knew of one person who could help her as long as he still didn't hate her.

Griffin knew Carmen was in trouble the moment he saw her, if her constant attempts to call him wasn't a dead giveaway her pale complexion and the terrified look on her face was. After the way they parted company the last time he knew it must be serious if she asking for his help, but even after she explains there might be a copycat killer out there he still was hesitant to help her. It's not until after she leaves to continue on her own does he realize that another thing the victim all have in common, they all look like Carmen. Griffin gives a friend at the FBI a heads up about what happening, and he starts checking things on his own. It escalates when Carmen receives a bouquet of flowers with an old nickname on them. Griffin thinks this is more personal than even Carmen realizes and starts asking questions about her past and the murder suicide of her parents.

The relationship between Carmen and Griffin starts off rocky. When they first met, in events before the book starts back when Carmen was still in the process of writing her book, she wanted to interview Griffin because he wrote the program that assisted the police in apprehending on of the serial killers she was writing about but he wouldn't do it. Carmen managed a "chance" meeting and they got close but then Griffin found out who she was it didn't end nicely. Despite all that Griffin is still insanely attracted to Carmen and when he realizes she is the focus of the copycat his protective instincts kicks into overdrive. Griffin is willing to do anything to protect Carmen catch the copycat and prove to Carmen he's worth the risk of loving.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one it really hit the spot. I like Ivy's writing, she does fantastic with the suspense and the whodunnit, she kept me guessing. She always transports me into the story and I just can't put it down.

ARC REVIEW Eight Simple Rules for Dating a Dragon by Kerrelyn Sparks

The Embraced #3, I love each book more and more. Each of the sisters, so far, have had their own style to fit there story. How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days very much felt like I was reading a fairy tale, So I Married a Sorcerer felt like a old pirate romance to me. I don't have a point of reference for dragon fantasy, (only other dragon shifter modern romance) so I couldn't tell you if it had that feel to it, but I loved it; ancient curses, kidnapped Princess', mountain trolls, conspiracies to overthrow the King, dragons, a great HEA, what's not to love. I especially loved that there are actually eight rules for dating a dragon. It's just stuff that Silas makes up for Gwennore especially after she starts calling his dragon Puff, and he starts teasing her about liking Puff more than she likes him, but of course at the time she doesn't know that Silas and Puff are one in the same. Rule number one for dating a dragon when he takes you for a ride hold on tight and never let go. Rule number four: Never tell his secrets. Whenever he tells her a new rule it's always pertinent to the story at the time. Number five is my favorite, Beware of kissing a dragon, he won't burn you but he might make you melt, and Silas will make you melt.

It's been about three years since the events of the last book and Gwennore has put up with a lot of crap and discrimination from people in court, being elf hasn't helped her even if two of her sisters are Queens. The only reason she says is for the kids. One particularly beautiful day everyone is enjoying a birthday picnic celebration when Gwennore and Eviana, Luciana's little girl, are out picking flowers when out of nowhere a dragon grabs Eviana, without even thinking Gwennore jumps on the dragon and tries to free Eviana but she gets taken away too. Not long after another dragon shows up and catches Gwennore after she loses grip and falls off the first dragon. Gwennore realizes she can hear the dragons talking and can communicate with them also. Her dragon promises that everything will be alright. But it's not alright, when they reach Norveshka Gwennore discovers the Queen is dying and going crazy and the King isn't any better off. General Silas makes a deal with her that they will send Eviana home right way if Gwennore stays for a month and tries to cure the Queen. With the deal struck Gwennore strives to find out as much about the curse and the Queen's illness as possible.

Gwennore and Silas have such a witty rapport with each other. She tries so hard not to show she likes him and is utterly embarrassed when she learns that not only can he read her mind but two other people can also and she's been calling Silas General Gorgeous. Silas is enthralled with Gwennore and has no problem letting people think she's his mistress, Gwennore has a problem with it but it's not long before she lets her feeling be known. But she holds out, I'm proud of her, she holds out on succumbing to his smoldering kisses and hot looks until over half way through the book.

Silas for being the badass general and big bad dragon, he's such a sweetie; he's very protective of Gwennore and when he finds out that it's Eviana's birthday he has the cook bake her a cake. Gwennore really grows as a character growing up so isolated then spending time in court and being excluded and insulted she finally has the chance to come out of her shell and find out who she really is, and not to mention Silas finds out who she really is as in who her parents are... yep. On top of the curse the Chameleon is back and trying once again to overthrow the king only this time they find out more about who is behind it but as one question get answered five more pop up.

Overall, I am so loving this series and I really hope Sorcha is next because white and lavender equals royal elves *excited squeal*.

ARC REVIEW Twice Bitten by Lynsay Sands

Argeneau #27, What I love about this series is that they can be read as a stand alone. Even with as big as this family is and all the characters where it would be easy to get lost in all the characters Sands is really good about that in this one there were only four, five extra Argeneau couples, including my favorite couple Marguerite and Julius, as well as some family members who haven't found their life mates yet, and a couple of humans; despite the large cast of characters it's so easy to follow. The third person POV mainly follows Elspeth and some of Wyatt. This this still running parallel timeline wise with Immortal Nights and Immortal Unchained. Another thing I love about this series is the science behind their immortality and how they get all grumpy about being called vampires. Sands is such a talented writer for being able to continue on with this series without it getting boring, and refreshing past couples stories in the current book without over explaining or making it feel redundant.

After 140 years of being under her mother's over protective thumb Elspeth was finally able to escape and move out on her own. She been working with the Rogue Hunters helping them sort through their tip line. After checking out one of those calls and getting attacked my a unbalanced human Elspeth comes home to her quant little apartment to find not only her Mother but her twin sisters as well who've come for an unwelcome visit. In need of blood and rest Elspeth's Mom keeps trying to get Elspeth to take blood from the gorgeous landlady's grandson who just happened to be visiting also. Elspeth is able to resist her mother and she comes to realize being in pain helped to resist her mother. Wyatt was surprised to find Elspeth living in his grandmother's upstairs apartment and even more surprised to realize that she doesn't even remember him.

Wyatt knows something is up so he follows Elspeth, after Wyatt catches up Elspeth realizes Wyatt could be her life mate then she gets pushed in front of a car and Wyatt learns what she is and what he is to her. Attempts on her life keep happening and Wyatt is determined to keep her safe. With these coinciding with her Mother's appearance in town no one is for if it's her or someone else is behind the attacks. In one of the attempted attacks, donuts laced with cyanide, Wyatt almost dies and Elspeth brings him over. But it only gets worse before it gets better.

Overall, this was such a fun read, it brought back several women from the earlier books that I loved and the story was so good. Elspeth's dastardly mother and what she did was reprehensible at least her annoying sister were redeemable in the end. Wyatt and Elspeth were just wow, I loved them together. I want G.G. to get his own story.

ARC REVIEW Executable File by Dave Cohen

It isn't a thriller in the traditional sense it is as the cover says a techno thriller, it's kind of like Hackers meets The Fugitive. Half of the book is the build up, after the prologue we met college Dan File and along the way how he befriends the football player Brax Johnson and fellow computer nerd preppy Will Goings. Dan is a natural when it comes to computer programing, him and Will develop a method to get high speed internet in rural areas as a school project and Dan uses his hacking abilities to hack into the other schools computers and steal the playbook of the team, and makes a mint on betting on good ole Georgia Tech. This is what gets him kicked out of college. Not long later and after some very amusing pranks Dan pulls over on his loser of a boss at the Best Buy type store he works at Dan and Will meet up again this time Will has connections that want to buy their method of high speed internet for rural areas. Since Will designed it and Dan programmed it they are both given jobs to handle the project. Unfortunately the guys who are hired to oversee the project are a couple of asswipes and Dan ends up pulling a bunch of pranks on them as well. Through these pranks Dan learns something big and because of this the two asswipes are fired and Will and Dan are given their jobs. It's a shame that one of those two asswipes holds a grudge and Dan ends up with a murder charge.

The latter half of the book Dan is trying to clear his name. During a prison transfer, which Brax also happens to be on also falsely accused of something he didn't do, crashes and all the inmates escape. Dan and Brax decide to stick together and with his hacking Dan is able to create fake IDs for them both and obtain jobs so they can afford some place to live and eventually buy a cheap car. During this time Dan uses his talent wisely and gather information and the proof he needs to prove his innocence, but getting to that point isn't all that easy.

The journey from beginning to end was entertaining. I needed something smart and nerdy and this really hit the spot. Dan is adorkable and his harmless pranks were funny he is his own comedic relief. Cohen goes kind of goes into detail about the tech stuff, which was fine with me. Overall, aside from the parts that felt a little slow I really liked this one; where the story went and how it got there I enjoyed it.

ARC REVIEW DC Universe Rebirth All Star Batman: vol 3 The First Ally

All Star Batman

vol 3: The First Ally

DC Universe Rebirth
Story by Scott Snyder, Rafael Albuquerque, Rafael Scavone
Art by Rafael Albuquerque, Sebastian Fiumara

Story: There are two stories to this the first obviously The First Ally story written by Scott Snyder. It deal heavily with Alfred, his internal struggle dealing with what Bruce Wayne has become and the part he played in it. The villain is someone from his past and while he is helping Batman deal with the Black and Whites (Penguin, Black Mask, Great White), Hush, and some others it flips back and forth between Alfred's youth and the current situation which is Batman trying to stop Hush and the Black and Whites from gaining control of a high tech device that can clone exact duplicates like it's a 3D printer. The second story Killers-In-Law written by Rafael Albuquerque and Rafael Scavone is all about Batman infiltrating a Russian mob in Moscow to stop them from making an arms deal that could lead to a all out war in Gotham.
Art: Rafael Albuquerque does the art for The First Ally story arc and Sebastian Fiumara did Killers-In-Law. Both did a great job beautiful images and the coloring (Jordie Bellaire, Chris Peters, Trish Mulvihill, Lee Loughridge) The covers Albuquerque did are my favorites they have a great light and dark contrast and the detail is so well done. Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Fiumara's work too.

Review: Overall, I did like this peek at Alfred's life before the Wayne's and his own troubled youth all the juicy bits after. While I did like that it explained how Alfred got to be as well trained and how he could teach this to Bruce but the whole thing with Briar and all that was a little too much. The analogy with the pirates and the classic pirate stories I'm torn on I liked it but it also came off as cheesy. But between the art and what of the story I liked, mainly Killers-In-Law, a solid four stars.

ARC REVIEW Lost to a Spy by Sharon Cullen

All the Queen's Spies #3, Yay, it's Tristan! I was looking forward to finding out who would be a match for the closed off Tristan. I was very excited to get this one. I love the series even though I usually try not to read historical romance with real historical figures as secondary characters. Not much of this one actually take place in the Scottish Court but in Tristan's print shop and the streets of Edinburgh. Tristan's job is to use the print shop to influence what the common people of Scotland think of Queen Mary and to turn them against her insuring that Queen Elizabeth remains in power of England and soon Scotland. Lady Emma has been friends with Queen Mary since she found out of the gross mistreatment done to Emma by her dead husband. Mary took Emma in so she would have a place to live and replaced all her inheritance that her husband squandered away. Mary has earned Emma's loyalty.

Lady Emma is waking home with her ladies maid after a dinner with a friend, as cold as it is she soon regrets not taking them up on their offer to ready the coach for her. When they are almost home something happens and Emma really regrets not taking that coach now. There was an explosion and Emma got caught in the blast. Tristan after hearing the noise rushes to where the commotion is and finds an unconscious Lady Emma. Not knowing who she is or if she had any part in this mess he thinks it best he takes her with him so the royal guard doesn't just arrest her because it is said that the King died in the explosion. When Emma finally comes to she has no idea where she is, Tristan explains what happened and that it's best if she stays where she is until she's better. In there time together Emma has never felt more comfortable talking to someone and being with someone. During her somewhat brief marriage she was verbally and physically abused she never thought she could trust another man, but Tristan makes her want to feel again. Tristan never thought he could fall in love, after his failed marriage he thought he would be a spy for life, Emma makes him want more but he feels he isn't good enough for her because after all is said and done he is still just a stable master's son and she is connected to two of the most powerful families in Scotland. It isn't until after she seduces him that she realizes he is a spy for Elizabeth and he's been spreading the flyers speaking out against Mary. Her time with Tristan opened her eyes and she sees for more than she did in court than she ever did before. She realizes it's not safe anymore and with the death of the King and Mary in turmoil and the people speaking out against her and her adviser, Emma must pick between her loyalties and her heart.

Overall, this was such a good read. The romance between Emma and Tristan is easy and even with the whole he's a spy thing their romance is pretty smooth and well Tristan shows her what it's really like to make love. The majority of the book is them getting to know each other and falling in love and Tristan opening Emma's eyes up to the possibility that things are not what they seem at the palace. The whole spy plot and internal struggle of power within Mary's court is such a tangled web, I can't wait for what I think is the conclusion with Lagrange (finally) and Lady Margaret who has had small parts in all the books.

INKSLINGERS REVIEW & EXCERPT TOUR Crossing Promises by Kimberly Kincaid

From USA Today bestselling author Kimberly Kincaid comes CROSSING PROMISES, the third standalone title in the Cross Creek series, releasing March 5th! A series filled with rugged, salt of the earth heroes who happen to be brothers, and strong family dynamics. Each standalone novel is filled with heart, humor, and heat. Order your copies of the Cross Creek series today!

For Owen Cross, the only thing that matters more than family is farming. As the oldest Cross brother, the land is his legacy, and he’ll do whatever it takes to make Cross Creek a success—including hiring local widow Cate McAllister to manage the bookkeeping tasks that are growing in his office like weeds. Cate’s as pragmatic as she is pretty, and she rattles his hard-fought composure at every turn.

Cate had known a lot of things about her husband before he died three years ago in a car accident, but how much debt he’d gotten them into wasn’t one of them. She needs her job at Cross Creek, even if her boss is both gruff and gorgeous. But Owen’s a family man, through and through, and the last thing Cate is interested in is anything—or anyone—with strings attached.

As Owen and Cate join forces to right the farm, they discover there’s more to the other than the surfaces shows, and that passion can be found in unexpected places. Can Cate heal from the loss of one family to gain the love of her life? Or will the past prove too much for the promise of the future?

Amazon * Barnes and Noble * iBooks * Kobo

Owen and Cate, really are two peas in a pod they are both workaholics and don't mind the hard work. Cate is a widow who lost both her husband and her daughter in a car crash several years before and ever since she has been struggling to get out of the debt her husband left her. Working two jobs and stress baking is the only way she can handle it. Owen is close to finally breaking ground on the storefront produce stand he's been working to get going for what seems like forever but his bookkeeping skills are lacking. Cate is good with numbers and offers to do it for him the extra money will help pay the mortgage or else the bank will evict her. After a rocky start Cate and Owen make a promise to each other to be completely honest with each other about everything. Cate reveals that her marriage wasn't a happy one and her fear of going after her dream comes from the fact that her deceased husband was an ass. Owen convinces her to give a baking for a living a shot and with the help of Cross Creek her dreams can become a reality. Their relationship moves from friends to lovers fairly quickly even though they say they are "going slow" but it's not as easy as that they still haven't told each other everything and when they do it just might not be enough to keep them together.

Overall, a really good book. I really liked Cate's character you don't really find a lot women like her in books. Owen for all he seriousness and not acting like a jerk anymore was a great character. I really did love the farm aspect of this series. The passion the Owen felt for farming was just as palpable as his love for Cate. I really hope that there is at least one more book left in the series.

Cate dragged a hand through her hair, her gaze moving over the boxes in disbelief. “Let me see if I’ve got this right. You don’t do any of your bookkeeping online. At all?”
“We do. Just not a lot of it,” he amended. The Cross men lived to work the land, not the ledgers. Sure, their current system was a little time consuming, but it wasn’t totally ineffective. Cross Creek had been running on it for decades. “We have software right here on the computer.” He paused to pull up the program they used for much of their bookkeeping before adding, “It’s just that none of us are great at using it.”
“So I see,” Cate said after a quick perusal over his shoulder.
Irritation splashed through Owen’s chest. “Our books aren’t that bad.”
The parting of her lips said she was primed and ready to take him to the mat on that count, and damn it, he really didn’t have time to argue with her. “Look, I know it’s going to take some work to get things running smoothly in here.”
“It’s going to take a lot more than that,” she murmured with a shake of her head, and just like that, Owen’s patience redlined.
“Can you do it, or should I find someone else?”
Once again, his words came out gruffer than planned. But before he could even think of cooking up an apology, Cate’s arms had snapped across the front of her sweater dress to form a don’t-mess-with-me knot that was far, far more of a turn-on than it had a right to be.
“That’s what you hired me for, isn’t it? To manage your books effectively?”
“Yes,” Owen answered carefully, still caught between the desire to be annoyed, the desire to apologize, and, well, just plain desire.
“Well, then. Since I have my work cut out for me with a chainsaw, I suppose I should get to it,” Cate said.
After a quick internal debate, Owen nodded. Brash or not, he needed her. More than he cared to admit. “Okay, then.”
She answered by way of pushing up her sleeves and sliding an elastic from her wrist to secure her hair in a knot at the crown of her head. Even with the more casual edge, the powder-blue dress still hugged her curves, her calves flexing and releasing as she moved from one stack of boxes to the next in her heels, and he cleared his throat.
“Just so you know, we’re pretty casual around here. You don’t have to look nice.”
Cate’s cheeks flushed a shade of pink that, while highly pretty, didn’t bode well for him in the mending-fences department. “Good to know,” she said, and holy hell, why did his mouth refuse to cooperate with his brain around this woman?
“Not that you don’t look, uh. Fine like that. All I meant was, you don’t have to get dressed up. Jeans are okay.”
She stared down at the toes of her shiny black shoes, but only for a split second before meeting his stare with her own. “Got it, Casanova. Is that all?”
For just a heartbeat, Owen was tempted to say no, to dig deep into his Neanderthal brain for the right words to tell her she actually looked fucking beautiful. To surrender to the hot demands coming from both his chest and his cock, and cross the room to impulsively kiss her sexy, sassy mouth.
But this was Cate McAllister. His buddy Brian’s widow. He shouldn’t think she was pretty. He shouldn’t wonder if the skin on her shoulders bore the same provocative dusting of freckles as the neck she’d just put on display. And he damn sure shouldn’t be turned on like floodlights at the fire in her eyes that he’d never quite seen before, but seemed to somehow fit her perfectly.
So, he simply said, “Yes. That’s all,” and walked out of the room.

And don’t miss the first two standalone titles in the Cross Creek series, CROSSING HEARTS and CROSSING THE LINE!

Hunter Cross has no regrets. Having left his football prospects behind the day he graduated high school, he’s happy to carry out his legacy on his family’s farm in the foothills of the Shenandoah. But when a shoulder injury puts him face-to-face with the high school sweetheart who abandoned town—and him—twelve years ago, Hunter’s simple life gets a lot more complicated.Emerson Montgomery has secrets. Refusing to divulge why she left her job as a hotshot physical therapist for a pro football team, she struggles to readjust to life in the hometown she left behind. The more time she spends with Hunter, the more Emerson finds herself wanting to trust him with the diagnosis of MS that has turned her world upside down. But revealing secrets comes with a price. Can Hunter and Emerson rekindle their past love? Or will the realities of the present—and the trust that goes with them—burn that bridge for good?

Hunter and Emerson, it's a second chance romance. Emerson never wanted to come home but being recently diagnosed with MS really limits her options the only person willing to take her on and work with her schedule was her hometown's only physician who was looking to expand her practice to physical therapy. She knew eventually talking to her parents was inevitable but also she knew she would run across Hunter at some point, she just didn't expect him to be her first patient. The only other thing Hunter has loved more than his family's farm is Emerson, he wouldn't have proposed after graduation if he hadn't but she left and broke his heart but know she back again and for Hunter nothing has changed about how he feels about her. It doesn't take much to insert her back into his life. Even after all these years Hunter still knows Emerson better than she thinks and he knows she's hiding something from him. Emerson made the decision not to tell anyone about her MS, but keeping her secret on top of her debilitating disease is wearing her thin.

Overall, I enjoyed this one. It was a nice start to the series a good introduction to the characters and their way of life. I enjoyed the fact that they were farmers instead of the typical rancher. Hunter is such a great characters and Emerson once she gets past her major issue and gets things sorted out she a wonderful character too. The other Cross brothers oooh boy.

Cocky farmer Eli Cross plays twice as hard as he works. When his latest stunt drums up a heap of negative PR for the family farm, he grudgingly agrees to play host to an ambitious New York City photographer. Her feature on Cross Creek could be just the ticket to show the country what the Cross brothers do best…which is more problem than solution for Eli.
Scarlett Edwards-Stewart has photographed everything from end zones to war zones. She’s confident she can ace this one little story to help her best friend’s failing magazine. At least, she would be if her super-sexy host wasn’t so tight lipped. But the more Scarlett works with Eli, the more she discovers that he’s not who he seems. Can his secret bring them closer together? Or will it be the very thing that tears them apart?

AMAZON

So I loved Eli and Scarlett, they are definitely my favorite couple of the series. Scarlett is a natural wanderer, and as a professional photographer it fits right in with her job. She never stays in one place long because no place ever really feels like home. Eli has been keeping a secret as much as he loves the family farm he has never felt that he belonged there. He also got a degree online as a journalist and has been the copywriter for Cross Creek for the last ten years.  Scarlett to help save her best friends emagazine comes up with the idea of focusing on Cross Creek and all that makes their farm special over the span of a month and Scarlett herself will take all the picture and video. Eli and Scarlett start off bumpy because of Eli, the camera never lies and he's afraid of what the camera will show about him. Scarlett finally gets him to open up and the sexual tension that has been building between them finally breaks. Eli even confides to her his dream and Scarlett convinces him to finally tell the truth to his family and follow his dream. But suddenly a giant bombshell of a secret is revealed and everything seems lost.

Overall, definitely my favorite of the three. Eli and Scarlett are such a fun couple and I loved their story.

It's important for you to go into this book knowing it's suppose to be a romance not a romantic suspense, because if you do (like I did) you'll be a little disappointed, I enjoyed the book but I expected more. The case of the missing boy practically solves itself, the only reason it has any importance to the story is how it affects Claire. Told in the first person it deals heavily with Claire's internal conflict of dealing with her past and how that is affecting her now. Throw in the fact that her over protective brother and boss, Liam, is constantly trying to shield bad things from her and the more he pushes the harder she pushes back trying to prove him wrong that she is strong enough to handle anything.

When a young boy goes missing Claire is the only detective free to take the case. Liam tries to take her off the case by calling in his best friend and FBI Special Agent in Charge Wesley O'Connell to take over. Claire throws a shit fit, not only because she is refusing to hand the case over but Wes is the same guy she has loved all her life, he also took her virginity and then promptly broke her heart. But grown up Wes is different he wants a relationship and he keeps telling Claire she's his, but Claire heart was broken and hurt so bad by his past actions she doesn't want to believe him. The longer the case goes on the worse Claire's night terrors get and the harder it is for her to concentrate on her current case and it also reminds her of why she can't be with Wes. Toward the end the POV changes to Wes for one chapter and it briefly explains why he did what he did and how he feels, and I loved this because I'm noisy when it comes to books I like knowing what all the characters are thinking.

Overall, I love Claire as a character she is flawed and so much stronger than she thinks she is and she's not afraid to teach her brother a lesson and kick him in the balls when he's acting like a jerk. Wes I liked so much more after I read after his POV. Liam I'm still not sure about. I wish there was a little more with Claire being a detective, it says in the blurb she the best detective I saw no evidence to support that, she would start doing something for the case then get distracted and completely veer off that topic, other than that I enjoyed the yoyo relationship Claire and Wes went through.
