ARC REVIEW The Scandalous Diary of Lily Layton by Stacy Reid

The Scandalous Diary of Lily LaytonThe Sweetest Taboo, all stand alone books only connected by the taboo trope. So it's been a while since I've read erotica like this. I enjoyed it, the story was nice the characters were pleasant and it was really hot. Now I know if I need good erotica I can count on Stacy Reid. My only issue is I didn't like the ending, it was way to easy, I personally would have been happier without the epilogue. Third person POV that switches focus between Oliver and Lily. I loved the voyeurism and meeting in complete anonymity and being oblivious to that fact that they already know each other.

Oliver Carlyle, Marquess of Ambrose, is ready to find himself a wife but he has certain requirements that aren't usual things to look for in a wife. For one he has no plans ever to take a mistress so his wife must be able to handle the dark erotic things he likes. He knows it's going to difficult but not impossible. During a house party, thrown by his mother in hopes he finds his future wife there, he finds a diary, in this diary are the most scandalous and erotic thoughts of a young widow. Determined to find out the owner of the diary and hopefully make her his wife especially since in the diary she mentions her attraction to him.

Lily Layton is a widow twice over and just at the age of 25, she went to work as a companion to the Marquess Ambrose's mother. She never expected to be noticed never expected her sexual fantasies to come true she only wished that one day her dreams of designing dresses would come true. But her life took a different turn when her diary went missing. Dealing with social standings and expectations and blowing those out of the water by following your heart. This book is emotional at times when it comes to a secret Lily is hiding from Oliver that just may end the romance.

Overall, it was an enjoyable erotic romance. I almost wish it was a tad bit more lighthearted, the beginning and the middle were really erotic; nice and hot really good but toward the end it got serious and just kind of killed the mood. The whole epilogue it was so typical with as serious as the topic of infertility got I wish she stayed true to that path.

Right Girl, Wrong Alpha (Brothers of the Heart, #2) by DJ Bryce

A Paranormal Romance

Synopsis:

As Chief of his Clan, Logan is surrounded by friends and family, the only thing missing is his mate. Natasha has always known that she was raised to be the mate of an Alpha, but being in her sister’s shadow has enabled her not to worry about it too much.
When Logan comes down to help the pack, he knows instantly that Natasha is the one for him. When she is put in harms way, he will stop at nothing to save her. Natasha never imagined that her mate would be anything other than a wolf, but although her feelings for Logan take her off guard, she can do nothing but succumb to them.
Right Girl, Wrong Alpha is the second in an all new series about men who may not be brothers by blood, but are brothers of the heart. And the realization that, regardless of how the Matthews siblings have been raised, sometimes you have to follow your heart, even if it's leading you down the hardest path.

Quick and easy romance, that ended waaaaaayyyyy too soon. Seriously at the end I forlornly said to myself, "Ohhh, it's over? Already?"
It is a really good story though. I wish I read the first one (I will now) and I will definitely read the next one. It was foretold that Natasha and her sister will grow up and marry Alphas, so their parents trained/raised her and her sister to be pack leaders. But it's not going according to what they envisioned.
Logan is Chief of his clan of bear shifters, he initially goes to visit and help out a friend of his, the Alpha of the neighboring wolf pack, but the moment he sees Natasha he knows she's his mate. Natasha is scared at first everything she thought about finding mates is so much stranger than she anticipated. Finding Logan was exhilarating and comforting yet scary at the same time. Logan is willing to give her space at first but when he feels that she is threatened by a new pack in the area nothing will stop him from protecting his mate.

Overall, aside from this being to damn short, it was really good. I love the characters and it was such an easy romance, I almost wish there was more conflict in the story. I can't wait for the next one.

ARC REVIEW The Mad Earl's Daughter by Lynne Barron

The Mad Earl's Daughter is a stand alone; so far, I hope more come from this crazy cast of characters. This was an amusing murder mystery with a CLUE-esk kind of result. Lynne Barron is great at leading me to believe one thing all the while setting out subtle clues about what's really going on and unless you catch on the end result will take you by surprise, and in the case of The Mad Earl's Daughter an amusing chase. As always I love Lynne's writing style and her stories are always so well thought out and complex, and when she goes erotica, damn.  I love insta-lust, especially when it plays out like this one did. Typically in the romances that I've read it's the guys that have a quirk or a "madness" I love that it's Annie who has it in this book. The fact that she's obsessive compulsive about things and has nervous habits it just adds realism to her character. Also the fact that Hugh is a swindler gone straight it's nice to have such imperfect characters that want their own HEA.

Hugh Forsythe is a solicitor and investigator, he is also for former shyster. Raised by a woman who slept her way into society and taught him all the best ways to con. Wanting to put all that behind him Hugh goes the straight and narrow. One day a young lady offers him a job, Hugh thinks that there's something hinky going on but the pay is too good to turn down. The case leads him to the doorstep of Annie Wellesley.

Annie wants more than anything to open a foundling home, she has it all planned out and all she needs now is the house ready, she owns two townhouse next to each other and is merging them into one. Annie's past is a mystery, she appeared eight years ago, and no one really knows or cares one way or another. Her family is very close, all her servants are her friends as well as her family and their loyalty is so steadfast she need not worry about loose lips. They know her past and love her enough to protect her from anything that might harm her. Annie is hiding from her father, and she fears more than anything having to return to him she knows that if she gets married than her father will have no power over her. Annie's choice is the sexy carpenter Bert Forest aka Hugh Forsythe.

Hugh worked his way into Annie's house, knowing something wasn't right about his case he kept quiet to his client about finding her so soon. He never expected Annie to be as beautiful or caring as she is. One night they find themselves alone and well... Annie made her choice she wouldn't have slept with him otherwise. Hugh is a little slow on the uptake the more he learns about her the deeper he falls but the mystery of who she is is still shrouded in mystery and now it's obvious someone else is looking for her for the murder of a peer, Annie's ex-fiance. But is Annie really who she says she is? or is that even a lie too? Where is the ex-fiance? and will Hugh ever tell Annie the truth about who he really is? and more!

Overall, while it not my favorite (that still goes to My Darling Gunslinger) it was a joy to read. I loved the clue-esk ending so chaotic and humorous it really had me giggling and the end did make me cry, so sweet.

ARC REVIEW After Midnight and Cries in the Night by Kathy Clark

Last week I participated with the Release Blitz for Kathy Clark's release for After Midnight and Cries in the Dark. Here are my reviews for both of these fabulous books.

After Midnight was originally self published released in '12 under the same name but under the series name Denver After Dark, it was picked up by LoveSwept and changed the series name to Denver Heroes. After Midnight is a great story, I love romantic suspense and this is a nice blend of suspense and romance, it was enticing and captivating I just breezed right through it, I could not put it down. It's a great first book, it introduces all the characters and the family dynamics. The Morgan family are all Type A personality types but familial ties are strong.

Sam Morgan patrolled the absolute worst part of Denver, but he didn't care he loved his job and he loved his city. One summer night he had a ride along with him when it went all wrong he ended up getting shot twice and another officer ended up dead as well as one dead pimp. The only other witness beside the ride along is a prostitute who disappeared after back up finally showed up. After Sam was released from the hospital he tracked down this mysterious prostitute, who turns out isn't really a hooker but was paid to play the part of one for that night. Kate McKinney was traumatized by what happened that night but was scared about coming forward because it would reveal who she really is and just who her father is. When Sam tracks her down she is scared of what is going to happen next but he promises it will stay private. Strange things keep happening to Kate and Sam being on medical leave is  determined to protect her and get down to the bottom of who hired her and why two people died that night.

Unfortunately I guessed the Who, What and Why right off the bat, but it doesn't take away from the story. Sam and Kate are such a cute couple it's ridiculous it really is a great read.

Cries in the Night picks up a couple of month after the events of the previous book. We met both Rusty Morgan and Julie Lawrence before; in this book they meet for the first time. They are like a slow lit fuse, an initial spark and a gradual seduction that leads to some nice fireworks.

Julie Lawrence is the Victims Advocate for Denver PD, helping all victims. She keeps to herself and keeps busy doing her job never making any close connections to anyone. Rusty Morgan is a ladies man never lacking a date if he wanted one, but meeting Julie after a domestic abuse and house fire call he can't seem to get her off him mind. She impresses him further when he gets taken hostage with a fellow firefighter by a man who has the whole rigged to explode, Julie knows him, he was one of her first she helped and she managed to talk some sense into him. A friendship buds between them but Rusty is frustrated with his attraction to her it seems like she is the only woman to be immune to his charms. Julie isn't as immune as Rusty thinks and as much as she wants to keep him at arms length she feels a strong pull to him.
Someone is after Julie and Rusty is determined to protect her, giving into their desires just happens. It obvious to every one how Rusty feels about her but she is afraid her secret past may change that.

Overall this was a great read another one I could not put down; a straight through read. It wasn't as predictable I was torn between the obvious and the not so obvious. Yeah It's good. You get to see more of the Morgan family and love them even more, especially Mom.

FULL STOP BLOG TOUR: HOT INK Anthology

BLURB:

Forever Ink by NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan A Montgomery Ink Novella The idea of a May-December romance has never looked so hot when it comes to broody lawyer, Morgan and sizzling tattoo artist, Callie. Between conniving family members, blondes with too much time on their hands, and their own misgivings, trust in the bedroom and out of it won’t come easy. http://carrieannryan.com/hot-ink/
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22590747-hot-ink

Also included in this anthology:

Takedown by USA Today Bestselling Author Cari Quinn A Tapped Out Bonus Novella After honorably discharged Navy SEAL Liam Walsh discovers his estranged brother, Slater, is living platonically with Abby, the only woman Liam ever loved, he vows to remind her of their scorching history. But Abby has changed since Liam left, and he only has one long weekend to stake his claim…

Bound Memories by Sidney Bristol A Bayou Bound Novella Kit Carson is back in his home town to do more than promote his latest reality TV win on Tattoo King. He’s returned to win over the woman who kinked up his world, but Renee LeBlanc isn’t the girl he remembers. Ten years can go in a blink of an eye and he won’t let her walk away from him again.

My love for Carrie Ann Ryan and Sydney Bristol just keeps growing by leaps and bounds.
*Carrie Ann's Montgomery Ink series is a sexy tattooed large family series and this novella is a story about an older man and a sweet tattoo artist. Callie knows what she wants and Morgan is who she wants, but the brooding Morgan has to over come the age difference and his conniving mother and her latest plastic hopeful. I really enjoyed the story of Callie and Morgan. In typical Carrie Ann fashion there is a deep hurt that happens before their HEA with a lot of hot and dirty sex in between.
*Cari Quinn's Takedown switches POV from Liam to Abby and that is my only problem with the story, at times it was hard to keep track of who is narrating. When they are talking to other people it's easy but when they were talking to each other it was confusing at times. Other than that it's a wonderful second chance story about misunderstandings and forgiveness. Liam up and left his family for the NAVY thinking it was the best for them in leaving he also left the love of his life pushing her away. Abby was nearly destroyed when he left but an friendship with his siblings helped in the healing. When Liam shows up to restore the family ties he finds Abby living with his brother. The spark is still their and Liam isn't going to let Abby go this time he just need to fix this relationship with his brother first.
*Now Sydney Bristol's Bound Memories fits in to her Bayou Bound series and is just as good as the others. Renee LaBlanc gave up her dream to be a tattoo artist and Kit Carson made it big after getting a spot on a T.V. reality show and then winning it. Kit has gone back home his Uncle and only living relative is dying and wants to make amends. His Uncle also wants to finally solve the one cold case that has been plaguing his conscience and has Renee and Kit look into it, but digging up old clues brings out the killer who set his sights on Renee. Kit's future is up in the air he has no set plans but the real reason for going home was to find Renee and try to rekindle what was once the best thing going for him. What he gets is so much more, there is also an appearance from Carrie Ann's Midnight Ink squad.

His mother waved her hand in the air in a dismissive gesture. “Oh stop being so difficult. Heather is a nice woman. She’s a McKinley, their youngest in fact. The others were already snapped up but she’s now ready for society and the pressures of being a society wife. She’s trained in her duties and will be fine with your wandering eye if that’s what it comes to. She’s not in it for love, but for your name. If you want to have a few daisies on the side, then keep it quiet. Your father always did. You’re not getting any younger and I need grandchildren.”
Morgan ground his teeth. There were so many things wrong with what his mother had just said, he didn’t know where to start. This wasn’t the first woman she’d paraded around him. No, Heather was the latest in an endless line of perfectly sculpted women with even more perfect backgrounds. He wanted no part of that life. His sisters lived it. His mother had. He would not hurt the woman he married. He wouldn’t be the man his father had been. While his mother never acted hurt over his father’s affairs, Morgan knew better.
“You have grandchildren, Mother.” There. He’d start with the easiest part.
“Your sisters have children and I play the doting grandmother.”
Playing a doting grandmother? Yes, and she deserved an Oscar for her performance.
“You need an heir, Morgan. Our family legacy cannot and will not end with you.”
They’d had this argument countless times before. “My sisters’ children will be well provided for no matter what children I bring into the world. We aren’t in the ducal system in England. Stop trying to put your pressures on me.”
His mother scowled. “You’ll never amount to what he wanted for you.”
He nodded. “True, because I never wanted to.”

SPOTLIGHT BLOG POST: What To Do With A Bad Boy by Marie Harte

What to Do with a Bad Boy
Author: Marie Harte
Series: The McCauley Brothers #4
Pubdate: November 4th, 2014
ISBN: 9781402287435

WHAT IS WITH MIKE McCAULEY?
Every time Delilah Webster runs into Mike McCauley, he practically bites her head off. The rough-and-tumble contractor clearly has baggage. Del has her own emotional scars and knows she’s better off keeping her distance, but Mike’s temptation in jeans and a T-shirt and she’s always been good with her hands…

There’s something about the strong-willed mechanic that sets Mike’s motor running—and scares the hell out of him. Mike has loved and lost and will never hurt like that again, even if that means walking away from a woman who makes him feel alive for the first time in years.

When a simple kiss turns hot and heavy, Mike discovers he can’t stay away, no matter how certain he is they’re destined to crash and burn…

Caffeine addict, boy referee, and romance aficionado, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author MARIE HARTE is a confessed bibliophile and devotee of action movies. Whether hiking in Central Oregon, biking around town, or hanging at the local tea shop, she’s constantly plotting to give everyone a happily ever after. Visit www.marieharte.com and fall in love.

He leaned down, so that his nose was all but touching hers. “Sweetheart, you couldn’t handle what I’m really made of.”
Stupid Del wanted to drag his stubborn mouth closer for the kiss she could all but taste. From the look in his eyes, he wanted the same. Mike might not like her much, but the man wanted her. She could feel the chemistry between them, and it burned.
Self-preservation reared its head, and she ducked under him and hustled to the door leading to the hall. She opened it and waited. “Don’t let it hit you in the ass, Mike.”
He chuckled as he sauntered to join her. “You’ll watch what you say around Colin?”
“Yep. When I see him Wednesday night, I promise to call you a buttwipe instead of an asshole. Fair?”
He sighed. “Guess it’ll have to do. For now.” To her shock, he dragged a rough finger down her exposed neck. “Nice hair, by the way. I like the braids pulled back. Shows off your pretty neck. No tats here, sweetness?”
She didn’t know what to say, frozen by the combustible lust and confusion drowning her system.
He stared into her eyes again, gave a satisfied smile, then left.
She watched his fine ass leave the building, heard a few choice remarks from the guys in the garage who also watched him leave, and yelled at them to get back to work. Then she slammed into her office and plopped her butt in her chair, staring without seeing at the mess on her desk.
She rubbed her neck over the spot he’d touched and tried to be madder about what he’d done. What he’d called her.
Sweetness?

Book Four of the McCauley Brothers series. Finally Del and Mike. As off put as I was with the last one I really enjoyed this one. Mike is a devoted father but stubborn, especially when it comes to Del. Del doesn't want to like Mike but he is everything she needs she just doesn't want to play second fiddle to his dead wife. I liked Mike and Del's characters and I liked the banter between them. Mike is the typical manly man, not on to show his emotions or even deal with them in a healthy way; and Del is not your typical woman a tattooed mechanic from a dysfunctional family setting and is the exact opposite of Mike's first wife. Everyone knows that despite the differences Mike and Del are just a time bomb waiting to happen, everyone except Mike's mom who keeps trying to set him up with a weak passive aggressive woman who is a little too much like Mike's first wife. Throw in Mike's son, Colin, and Del's brother with some mischief matchmaking and the story line is a fun and entertaining read.

Mike doesn't want to be over his first wife, in fact he does everything possible to avoid relationships. Mike is a firm believer that you only love once, but when foul mouthed Delilah shows up and wins over Colin without even trying he looks at her at a completely different light as any other woman. They start an affair with no expectations. But when Betsy tries setting  Mike up with her neighbor's daughter a single mother with a son of her own, Mike balks at the idea of dating someone so like his late wife but in pushing Del away he agrees to see her for his mother's sake and hurts Del in the process. Del fighting against her own heartstrings falls in love with Mike but doesn't think she is good enough for him or his son especially since his mom doesn't seem to like her. There are some very funny scenes with Colin, as well as some very snarky remarks from Del to little miss passive aggressive, who is just annoying and manipulative.

In typical Marie Harte fashion it is has some very graphic and hot sex. The McCauley family has it's faults but is still a very loving family. I liked this one because unlike the last it centered around Mike and Del without a secondary story to distract you. It was a very satisfying read and I think if it is the last book a very good book to end the series.

Chasing Temptation: by Joya Ryan

Chasing Temptation is an entertaining read, a little predictable but good none the less. It's a quick read took me no time at all to finish the book; it was a perfect length for the story. The characters are not unique Penny is the typical "girl next door" with a deep need to be bad and Sebastian is the typical big bad lawyer with a not so deep dark sexual appetite with an unrequited love for his best friends little sister. But we love those those type of characters so that's not to bad. With all that being said if you wanna take a chance on it go for it, it just didn't click with me as more than 3 stars.

Penny is tired of her over protective big brother scaring away all the guys she has dated, which has lead to a very boring sex life. Her friends combined bachelorette/bachelor party is just the time to initiate "Operation Orgasm" and seduce the one man she has lusted over for so long and knows from rumors that he is precisely the man to full fill her sexual needs. Sebastian tries to avoid Penny, who fills his thoughts and fantasies. Penny, who is a forbidden fruit little sister of his best friend. He has successfully avoids her until she shows up trussed up like a sex kitten and challenges him. He gives in to her and gives her two weeks to give her all the sexual satisfaction she can handle.

Penny and Sebastian agree to keep it all under raps, mainly to avoid her big brothers over protective meddling. All the while having their steamy hot BDSM filled erotic affair their friends are constantly trying to set them up with other people. Penny and Sebastian fight with jealousy, each other, and their feelings for each other before a totally romantic and sweet ending.
