BLOG TOUR Battle of the Bulge by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Battle of the Bulge

Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Synopsis:
From New York Times Bestseller Mimi Jean Pamfiloff comes BATTLE OF THE BULGE, Book Four of the OHellNO Series. (A Standalone.)

“Chicks can’t be bodyguards. Especially hot chicks.”
MY NAME IS MITCH HOFER. I’m a world-famous swimmer from Australia, best known for three things: my gold medals, my looks, and filling out a swimsuit with my…eh-hem—bulky equipment. Let’s just say there’s a reason my nickname is “the Bulge.”
But beyond the fame, sponsors, and glory, there’s more to me than people know, including one hell of a mess I’ve gotten mixed up in. Life-or-death stuff, so bring in the professionals. Just don’t give me a chick bodyguard. Especially a young hot one who distracts me at every turn and hates my guts…

MY NAME IS ABI CARTER, and I hate Mitch Hofer. Yeah, he might be the sexiest champion swimmer in the world, but I’d give this guy a gold medal for being a first-class jerk.
Unfortunately, my boss has given me a choice—guard Mitch or get another job. And I really need the money. I can be professional, but if Mitch says “chicks can’t be bodyguards” one more time, I just might strangle him myself.
Still, something about the way Mitch keeps looking at me makes me think there’s more to his story. It’s almost as if he’s trying to drive me away. But why?

Another outstanding book from MJP. We first met Abi and Mitch in the last book but this book can be read as a standalone. I would still recommend reading the previous three because they are just awesome. Mimi's New Adult-Sports-Romantic-Comedy blend is typical Mimi; humorous situations, dirty jokes, characters you want to throttle at times and always a romance that hits the spot.
Abi is smart and very loyal to those she loves so when her mom hits a rough patch and is on the verge of losing everything from her business to her home Abi steps up and takes a job with her best friend's fiance, Sam, as a bodyguard. After weeks of training hell Abi is ready for her first assignment, that is until she realizes she's protecting Mitch Hofer.
Mitch has his reasons, he comes off as a chauvinist and self centered but through the first person narration you find out he's a complex guy. There is somewhat of a method to his jerkish ways. But one thing for sure he can't have Abi guarding him, or be anywhere near him. He's too attracted to her, to worried that he will once again be the cause of some he cares about getting hurt especially after she's saved his life the first time.
Overall, it's a fun read. I read it in one sitting (took me about 3ish hours), my curse I inhale her books only to regret reading it too fast. It is alternating first person POV, more Abi than Mitch, but it isn't long before you realize Mitch is more what he seems.

She’s the smart girl he loves to pick on.
And now that they’re all grown up, things are about to get geekin’ ugly…
My name is Tass. I’m smart, I’m driven, and I am determined not to let prankster Hunter Johnson continue raining on my parade. When we were little, he’d pull my hair and call me names. When we were teenagers, he’d throw food and tease me for being a flat-chested virgin.
But now that we’ve ended up at the same college, he’s out of his hot head if he thinks he can keep messing with my life. It’s like he’s fixated on me or something. Well, guess what, Mr. Amazefootball? I’m not that geeky little girl anymore and you do not screw with a smart woman.
So what’s my plan?
It’s definitely wild, and he’s about to find out…

Oh Henry (Book #2)

From New York Times Bestseller, Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, Comes OH, HENRY, Book Two of the Ohellno Series. (Stand Alone Story w/ Teaser for Next Book.)
SHE’S GOT ME BY THE FOOTBALLS…
My name is Henry Walton, and though I’ve been called many things throughout my life—tree trunk, moose, walrus—I am now six foot five, solid muscle, and the hottest defensive end in the NFL college draft. This is the moment I’ve been waiting for: fame, women, and glory.
Just one problem: I’m suddenly in a bad slump. And it started the moment I got dumped by Elle, the nerdy goddess with thick glasses, a smokin’ hot body, and a genius IQ.
So what gives? We only dated for a few weeks, and it’s not like I’ve missed her. (Much.) Regardless, all the facts point to one conclusion. Elle is my lucky nerd-charm.
So call me superstitious, but I have to get her back before I lose everything. Even if she’s the last girl I should want and she now hates my guts.

Digging A Hole (Book #3)

From New York Times Bestseller, Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, comes a new Romantic Comedy.
He’s the meanest boss ever.
She’s the sweet shy intern.
They’re about to wreck each other crazy.
My name is Sydney Lucas. I am smart, deathly shy, and one hundred percent determined to make my own way in the world. Which is why I jumped at the chance to intern for Mr. Nick Brooks despite his reputation. After ten failed interviews at other companies, he was the only one offering. Plus, everyone says he knows his stuff, and surely a man as stunningly handsome as him can’t be “the devil incarnate,” right? Wrong.
Oh…that man. That freakin’ man has got to go! I’ve been on the job one week, and he’s insulted my mother, wardrobe shamed me, and managed to make me cry. Twice. Underneath that stone-cold, beautiful face is the evilest human being ever.
But I’m not going to quit. Oh no. For once in my life, I’ve got to make a stand. Only, every time I open my mouth, I can’t quite seem to muster the courage. Perhaps my revenge needs to come in another form: destroying him quietly.
Because I’ve got a secret. I’m not really just an intern, and Sydney Lucas isn’t my real name.

They say your first kiss should be earned.

Mine was stolen by a devil in a masquerade mask under the black Chicago sky.

They say the vows you take on your wedding day are sacred.

Mine were broken before we left church.

They say your heart only beats for one man.

Mine split and bled for two rivals who fought for it until the bitter end.

I was promised to Angelo Bandini, the heir to one of the most powerful families in the Chicago Outfit.

Then taken by Senator Wolfe Keaton, who held my father’s sins over his head to force me into marriage.

They say that all great love stories have a happy ending.

I, Francesca Rossi, found myself erasing and rewriting mine until the very last chapter.

One kiss.

Two men.

Three lives.

Entwined together.

And somewhere between these two men, I had to find my forever.

Excerpt
“Are you sure you’re on my card?” I turned to the man with a polite yet distant smile. I was still disoriented from the exchange with Angelo when the stranger pulled me against his hard body and pressed a possessive hand lower than socially acceptable on my back, a second from groping my butt.
“Answer me,” I hissed.
“My bid on your card was the highest,” he replied dryly.
“The bids are undisclosed. You don’t know how much other people have paid,” I kept my lips pursed to keep myself from yelling.
“I know it’s nowhere near the realm of what this dance is worth.”
Un-freaking-believable.
We began to waltz around the room as other couples were not only spinning and mingling but also stealing envious glances at us. Naked, raw ogles that told me that whomever the blonde he’d come to the masquerade with was, she wasn’t his wife. And that I might have been all the rage in The Outfit, but the rude man was in high demand, too.
I was stiff and cold in his arms, but he didn’t seem to notice—or mind. He knew how to waltz better than most men, but he was technical, and lacked warmth and Angelo’s playfulness.
“Nemesis.” He took me by surprise, his rapacious gaze stripping me bare. “Distributing glee and dealing misery. Seems at odds with the submissive girl who entertained Bishop and his horsey wife at the table.”
I choked on my own saliva. Did he just call the governor’s wife horsey? And me submissive? I looked away, ignoring the addictive scent of his cologne, and the way his marble body felt against mine.
“Nemesis is my spirit animal. She was the one to lure Narcissus to a pool where he saw his own reflection and died of vanity. Pride is a terrible illness.” I flashed him a taunting smirk.
“Some of us could use catching it.” He bared his straight white teeth.
“Arrogance is a disease. Compassion is the cure. Most gods didn’t like Nemesis, but that’s because she had a backbone.”
“Do you?” He arched a dark eyebrow.
“Do I…?” I blinked, the courteous grin on my face crumpling. He was even ruder when we were alone.
“Have a backbone,” he provided. He stared at me so boldly and intimately, it felt like he breathed fire into my soul. I wanted to step out of his touch and jump into a pool full of ice.
“Of course, I do,” I responded, my spine stiffening. “What’s with the manners? Were you raised by wild coyotes?”
“Give me an example,” he said, ignoring my quip. I was beginning to draw away from him, but he jerked me back into his arms. The glitzy ballroom distorted into a backdrop, and even though I was starting to notice that the man behind the demi-mask was unusually beautiful, the ugliness of his behavior was the only thing that stood out.
I am a warrior and a lady…and a sane person who can deal with this horrid man.
“I really like Angelo Bandini.” I dropped my voice, slicing my gaze from his eyes and toward the table where Angelo’s family had been seated. My father was sitting a few seats away, staring at us coldly, surrounded by Made Men who chatted away.
“And see, in my family, we have a tradition dating back ten generations. Prior to her wedding, a Rossi bride is to open a wooden chest—carved and made by a witch who lived in my ancestors’ Italian village—and read three notes written to her by the last Rossi girl to marry. It’s kind of a good luck charm mixed with a talisman and a bit of fortunetelling. I stole the chest tonight and opened one of the notes, all so I could rush fate. It said that tonight I was going to be kissed by the love of my life, and well…” I drew my lower lip into my mouth and sucked it, peering under my eyelashes at Angelo’s empty seat. The man stared at me stoically, as though I was a foreign film he couldn’t understand. “I’m going to kiss him tonight.”
“That’s your backbone?”
“When I have an ambition, I go for it.”
A conceited frown crinkled his mask, as if to say I was a complete and utter moron. I looked him straight in the eye. My father taught me that the best way to deal with men like him was to confront, not run. Because, this man? He’d chase.

Catching Cassidy, the first in a new Love in Bloom series Harborside Nights. Finally I catch one of Melissa Foster's book series at the beginning! Not that it really matters I'm just picky that way I prefer to read a series from the start, doesn't always work out that way. I loved these characters, I'm not really much for New Adult, unless it's suspense or paranormal, but with this one the emotional and life changing events the characters matured very quickly, you see them grow from the fun loving college graduates ready to take on the world into responsible business owners.
For Cassidy Lowell,Wyatt and Delilah Armstrong the summer after their college graduation went from fun loving and fancy free to crap-tacular in the matter of seconds. Cassidy who was suppose to spend the summer in Martha's Vineyard with her boyfriend of two years and his family walked in on him cheating on her. Wyatt and Delilah's parents died in a car accident. Wyatt is in shock he doesn't know what to do suddenly the owner of a bar and grill, two houses and two cars. Not to mention his sudden lustful feelings for his best friend Cassidy.
The book deals alot with the grieving process with Wyatt and dealing with his feelings toward Cassidy. Cassidy has her own bit of drama herself that skews her view of love. But they have great emotional support from their friends. The romance of the book was great from the beginning you can see why these two are meant to be together and reading their process of them finally realizing it and dealing with it was really good.

I really, really wanted to read this one. It has been a long time since I've read a good F/F. I think Melissa Foster did excellent with it. Delilah has a lot of shit to deal with in this book. Delilah is discovering who she is. She is dealing with the death of her parents, suddenly becoming a business owner, and most confusing of all dealing with her feelings for her new found friend Ashley. Ashley has vowed never to be in another relationship where she is treated like the dirty little secret. Ashley meets Delilah through a mutual friend and instantly feels a pull toward the beautiful woman. Ashley and Delilah form a quick friendship and although they both are really attracted to one another they don't know if the other is straight or not.
Delilah has known she was gay since she was a teenager but her parents were very conservative and vocal about their feelings on same sex relationships. Delilah was so scared of what her parents thought that she never acted on her feelings. Right before the graduation ceremony Delilah finally told them the truth and what she saw in her father's eyes broke her heart and before she could talk to them privately again they were dead. Delilah and Ashley finally come together; but Delilah's still worries, her parents unintentionally made her feel bad about who she is and while she really wants to be with Ashley she still needs to move baby steps. Delilah has to work through a lot of grief and guilt and insecurity but Ashley is willing to wait for her and be there for her.
I love Delilah, I completely empathize with her. Delilah needed the confidence boost and she needed to feel secure in her feelings and her sexuality, how can she really know she's gay if she's never actually been with another woman, I understand that and I love that Janessa was there to help her. I also understand Ashley's feelings about that. I liked this one more than Catching Cassidy, it really is a great story.

ARC REVIEW His Work of Art by Shannyn Schroeder

Hot & Nerdy book four by Shannyn Schroeder does not feel like book four, I read it without reading the others so it's fine as a stand alone. This book is so adorable, I love it, it's light and what I consider fluff; it is short not so sweet (wink wink) but it's fun to read and it made me go ahhhhhhhhh. I would definitely go back and read others from this series. I really enjoyed reading about comic book geeks fall in love. I love reading comics but it's a recent development for me and like Reese I am a DC girl, but there are some points of Marvel that I prefer and the teasing flirting with their argument over DC vserus Marvel. When Adam brings up that there weren't enough people of color in comic books and then Reese started to name off some, there are also which she for got Marvel has one way more cooler than Black Panther and DC Green Lantern and Cyborg; like Blade and probably one of my favorites from Image, McFarlane's Spawn. I bring it up because it is the one major issue that comes between Adam and Reese.

Reese has the idea for an awesome female superhero, and as part of her final project for one of her college senior classes is to write, create and publish her comic. Reese asks Adam to illustrate, her story. Adam's dream job is to work for Marvel so when the cute comic book junkie Reese shoots him her idea he agrees for the sheer fact that it would look good on his resume. Adam is soon pulled into Reese's story and together they restructure the story and even add in Adam's hero he has been trying to create. Reese is able to create a backstory and make him the perfect mentor for her superhero. Thank to the help from Julie, the publisher and marketer and the crowd source campaign fund the comic kicks off even before the first book is released.
Reese has had a crush on Adam but her subtle flirting isn't working, so she thinks he is either oblivious or not interested. One night they are working together they kiss. it's everything Reese thought it would be and more. But Adam does the stupid boy thing and apologises. Reese has no idea where she stands with Adam so when she gets invited to his New Year's Eve party she borrows a dress from her sophisticated best friend. Adam isn't able to keep his eyes or his hands off of her but after one night together Adam says something stupid, again, and Reese suddenly feels self conscious and unsure. Adam then informs Reese they can't get into a relationship because she's white. Flabbergasted Reese doesn't know what to do to convince him otherwise. Adam grew up believing that his father left because he couldn't stand peoples racist remarks about his white mother and his black father's relationship and Adam swore he couldn't put someone he loved through that. Adam's mom, who is awesome I love that woman, informs Adam otherwise. Now Adam must grovel to Reese and show her he can get past his fear.

Overall, I really enjoyed everything about this book.

To say I'm picky about the New Adult genre is an understatement and half the time when I pick one to read I hate them but the other half are shining stars. Say Something is one of those shining stars.
I didn't know what to think starting this book mainly because I knew it was going to end in a cliffhanger and I generally don't like cliffhangers with a few exception; this is going to be one of those exception.

The characters are complex, delightfully complex and well written (I'm going to be a smart ass here and say I would hope so because it is the whole of the story) An instant attraction changes everything for two people. Ari has a secret she has never told anyone the kind of secret that gives her nightmares   so bad she wakes up screaming. Ben avoid commitment like the plague and being on the college football team and the president of his fraternity it's not hard to find a new bed mate every night. But the moment they saw each other they knew it was something special.

It is a highly excitable book a few times I had to stop and take a deep breath the things that boy does to her, wooo. Now, the conflict again is not one of my favorites, vindictive ex ( who's not technically an ex but it's just easier to refer to her as such) out to sabotage, but was done well it's not a constant thing it's sporadic throughout the book and they easily overcome her childish meddling. The introduction of Ari own ex-boyfriend is short but hints to more to come in the next books. Ari finally confides in Ben her dark secret and Ben struggles with his grandmother's deteriorating health. All leading to a big fat cliffhanger...

The only problem I had with the book, besides the cliffhanger, was the flip flopping of POVs. First person POV between Ari and Ben and even occasionally the evil ex. It wasn't confusing it was all clearly marked but it happened so often in some chapters it made me think why not just write it in third person.
