Naughty or Nice: The Naughty List

The people at St. Martin's Press came up with a Naughty or Nice list for your Holiday reading. Depending on what you prefer they compiled a list of both naughty and nice for your reading enjoyment. I have been reading Christmas Romance since October so I have thrown in one or two that I enjoyed reading. First up is the naughty list, this list ranges from a little naughty to really naughty.


On the Naughty List
An Anthology of holiday romance
Christmas Bonus by Lori Foster is a little naughty inner office romance. It is an enjoyable quick read that is just romance. Two people who have finally after years of soft stepping around each other finally give in to their desire. Loved it!

Naughty Under the Mistletoe by Carly Phillips where a case of mistaken identity is the best mistake that could happen to two lonely people. Very typical Carly Phillips a quick and cute, cute as in a steamy hot and dirty cute way. Also made me want to reach in and smack the main characters for jumping to conclusions.

Some Kind of Wonderful by Beth Ciotta. I'm new to this author and I loved this story. Two old friends drifted apart but a pen pal hook up with her best friend, messes everything up. A Cyrano De Bergerac type situation she finds out how much she loves the man she just set up with her best friend. But a blizzard and a Christmas Carol type dream just may change that all.

Have Yourself a Curvy Little Christmas by Sugar Jamison. If you have ever read the first book in the Perfect Fit series, Dangerous Curves Ahead and wondered what ever happen to Dina, Ellis' sister this is the book to read. Dina wound up pregnant and dumped, with her ten month old baby boy she finally admits she needs help and seeks out the baby's father. Only he is dead and his lonely and gorgeous brother is there to help.

This anthology was a great quick read with great Christmas Romance.

Hot Toy

By Jennifer Cruise 

This is a short and fun Christmas short story that at first starts off like Jingle all the Way, but quickly turns into something so much more. Trudy is trying to be the best aunt ever and make sure her nephew gets the toy he wants for Christmas. Only the action figure he wants is impossible to find, and the one she does find throws her into a big mess with spies and lies and gun fights. Now this is a fluff piece, but man do I love a good piece of fluff every now and then. It is more of a comedy with a budding romance then a Christmas Romance but I enjoyed it none the less. 

Christmas with the Billionaire Rancher

I am brand new to Mandy Baxter and A Billionaire's Club series, I was hoping it wasn't the same old cliched billionaire story. I was pleasantly surprised and happy that I was wrong. This was a cute romance, naughty, but it really tugged at my heart strings. Nate is a reluctant billionaire, and kind of insecure because of how his father treated him. Chloe is a strong woman but a bleeding heart. Chloe was just initially going to hit up Nate for a donation for her charity, but after one night with him she was in love and their was no way she was going to ask him for the money now. Nate hates gold diggers just as much as he hates his father's money, but time with Chloe has him rethinking everything. Nate's insecurities just might get in the way of his HEA with Chloe. 

   

The Duke and Miss Christmas

I really liked this one. An Heir's Club of Scoundrels christmas novella is a naughty historical romance.  Crispin the Duke of Hurst has a reputation, one that he earned but regrets. On a crisp December morning Crispin's life changes for the better he gets hit on the head with a basket wielded by the beautiful young woman he dubs Miss Christmas. Gwen Prim knows that she should like a man with a reputation for stealing kisses from young ladies especially after her horrible experience at the end of her season, but what she knows about him differs greatly from what she has seen first hand. Crispin and Gwen quickly fall in love. But does Gwen get her hopes up too soon only to be broken hearted in the end?

I really liked this one it was so naughty and sweet at the same time, my only complaint is that it was so short. Crispin and Gwen deserved a full length story.

What Happens Under The Mistletoe

Historical Christmas Romance anthology.

I love these authors I have previously read all of them for the exception of Meredith Duran, but believe me I will read her now. I put this under the naughty list because the common theme with all these novellas, stealing kisses under the mistletoe.

Stephen is taken with the beautiful American but when they find out who they are they try their hardest to hate each other. Amanda wanted to hate the man who was biased against mill owners and she is out prove he is wrong, and Stephen is out to prove they are not all like her. But one thing they do have in common is the kiss under the mistletoe sparked something in them both that they can not deny.

Twelve Kisses to Midnight

by Karen Hawkins

A Christmas novella for the Oxenburg Princes series, It centers around Prince Nikolai's righthand man, Marcus Sutherland The Duke of Rothesay and his former fiancee from years ago. Keena Stuart the recently widowed Lady Montrose. The engagement fell apart and she later married someone else and Marcus left to accept the post in the Oxenburg court. Now ten years later she is still as beautiful as ever and a stolen kiss under the mistletoe puts them both in a precarious position of a scandal which then leads them both trapped by a blizzard in a hidden lovers nest. It's the perfect time to reconcile or break it off more smoothly than they did before. I enjoyed this one I love Tata that meddling old biddie makes the story.

By Any Other Name

I love it when the heroine dresses up as a man. I have read a few of Candace Camp books and I enjoy them. Rylla dresses up as a man to visit the gaming hells to try and find her missing brother, her first night was unsuccessful and to top it all off she was robbed and stabbed. Gregory Rose was unexpectedly attracted to the young man across the table from him on his way out he witnesses the robbery and stabbing of the young man. He bring him home and soon discovers the young man is very much a beautiful young woman. A stolen kiss under the mistletoe and Gregory is lost, even with the fake name she gave him he was able to track her down and just to keep close to her he promises to help her find her missing brother. With every night and some more kisses shared Rylla and Gregory fall more in love. But will the mystery of Rylla's missing brother do more harm than good? This is probably the sweetest one out of this anthology but it had the right amount of humor, mystery and romance. Gregory is so smitten and devoted to Rylla it's hard not to fall in love with him. 

Sweetest Regret

by Meredith Duran. 

Second chances are one of my favorite subgenres. In this one Georgiana Trent the dutiful diplomat's daughter is charged with the task of hosting a Christmas house party for a bunch of foreigners her father invited when he had to suddenly leave, and find a sensitive letter that was stolen out of his office, he was also sending help in the form of Lucas Goodwin. Lucas once broke her heart years ago and one silly game of blind man's bluff and a kiss under the mistletoe and everything that was left behind three years ago comes back. Georgiana was in love with Lucas but abruptly left with no word or goodbye. Now Lucas is ordered by his boss and Georgiana's father to help her find the stolen letter. The more time they spend together the more they realize they never stopped loving each other. I enjoyed this one it was a really nice read with a wonderful and amusing story.        

 


I enjoy reading Holiday Romance and there are so many to pick from, I hope you can create a perfect list of your own.

ARC REVIEW Highland Heat by Jennifer Haymore

The Highland Knights book Two, Highland Heat can be read as a stand-alone. It runs almost parallel with the book that precedes it, A Highlander's Heart. Jennifer Haymore has written a beautiful book. The storyline is about two people who fall in love but they are from two completely different stations. Lady Grace Carrington and Duncan MacKenzie had no business falling in love with each other but neither could help it. It's a great love story about two people fighting everything and almost everyone to be together.

On the bloody fields of Waterloo Grace found a soldier alive with hardly a scratch on him. Duncan MacKenzie was dubbed the Unbreakable MacKenzie, he only suffered a concussion, a few broken ribs and a bullet grazed his arm. His only weakness it seems is his dammed ankle which if he's going to get injured that is what's going to get injured. There was an immediate attraction between the two, but their obvious differences they never thought they would be together. But as fate would have it Duncan would be called on to be a new kind of hero and the two of them would be kept close together from Waterloo to London and beyond.

A separate division of the Home Office was created to investigate and deal with rumors of treason, the new group of spies formed specifically to be all Scottish, The Highland Knights. Grace's brother in law was Duncan's commanding officer and is also part of the new group. This elevated Duncan up to something more than just a farmer's son. The more time Duncan and Grace spend together the stronger the attachment becomes to the point they both are willing to throw everything away to be together. But the uprisers they are trying to track down in Manchester have a different plan and Duncan will go to great lengths to protect Grace.

Overall, I loved their romance. Grace and Duncan have a lovely and steamy romance. The book in it's entirety is a great story and I really look forward to reading the other Highland Knight's books.    

ARC REVIEW The Highlander's Accidental Marriage by Callie Hutton

Book Six in Callie Hutton's Marriage Mart Mayhem series, I liked this book more than the other book in the series that I read. The characters were amusing and well written. Lady Sarah is headstrong and a take charge type which gets her into trouble, also lacking the common knowledge of Scottish ways. Braeden McKinnon is the black sheep of his family, where everyone else takes care of the family sheep herd he is the youngest professor to ever teach at Edinburgh University. These two very intelligent headstrong people end up in a Planes, Trains, and Automobiles type situation. It was an amusing and aggravating read; aggravating because Sarah is too stubborn and at times selfish and amusing because the situations they found themselves in at the beginning were fun. It's almost as if someone said the famous last words, What else could go wrong?

Lady Sarah promised her sister that she would be there for her when she had her baby. That means Sarah must brave the wilds of Scotland. Dragging her borrowed maid with her, she endures a never ending domino effect of bad things happening. The only good thing to come out of it was meeting the handsome professor Braeden McKinnon, and that for a time didn't seem like it was a good thing. Sarah has no problem in being the lady, taking charge wherever she goes the only problem is that she doesn't know anything about Scotland and in her panicked thinking she married herself to Braeden without even realizing it. Breaden is immediately taken with Sarah, she is brave and intelligent as well as beautiful. He has absolutely no hope of ever being with her, him a professor and her a Lady, a sister of a Duke. But then Sarah doesn't stick with the plan of telling everyone they are brother and sister and marries him. Braeden can't believe she did it, even if she did it out of ignorance it's done.

When they finally make it to her sister's house and the truth comes out Sarah and Braeden must face the consequences and marry for real. Unfortunately they each have their lives and marriage has no place in it. Sarah has a book being published and her publisher wants her in London to tour bookstores and meet fans, that how confident he is in her book. While Braeden is waiting for his acceptance in an expedition to Rome, that he has been waiting for for two years. Now back in 1817 the wife went where the husband went her life was his life and that is what Sarah is scared of. Braeden may be proud that she is a great writer and that her book is being published but her place is with him, but he loves her enough to let her have her life. Sarah should be happy but now she misses Braeden, she feels like an outsider in her sister's home, and her mother is giving her the guilt trip from hell.

Overall, it was a nice read. I liked the characters, I understood their motivations and I almost think Sarah announced that they were man and wife subconsciously because she really did want to be married to Braeden.

“I saw your wore red fingernail polish when you danced.”

            She smiled. “Yes.  To match my costume.” Taking a sip of wine, she added, “You don’t miss much, do you?”

            “I can’t in my world,” he agreed, somber. Matt finished the meal and took her empty plate, putting both aside so they could be picked up. “Have you ever known anyone in black ops before?”

            “No. I’m finishing my third and last year of residency training at a hospital in Arlington, Virginia. I never meet military men except when I come here for a week to help out Callie and her charity. I do it once a year—it’s my way of giving back.”

            Matt rested his chin on his folded hands, studying her beneath the dim light. “You have a good heart,” he said. He watched her face soften and her cheeks color briefly.

            “Thanks. I just can’t stand to see a pregnant mother, infant, or child suffer. It just kills me. Callie begged me to come over here, and I’ve been doing it the last two years.”

            “So are you here much longer?” Matt finally asked.

            “Not really. I’m here for six days.”

            “I see. And Callie?”

            “Oh, she’s here full-time. The charity she works for has her in Kabul for six months and then she goes back to their headquarters in San Francisco the other six.”

            “How many times has she been to Kabul, then?”

            “Five years in a row.” Dara sighed. “I worry so much about her, Matt. This is a very, very dangerous place. I don’t feel safe outside the wire. When I’m in Kabul, half my attention is on whether we’re going to be attacked in the van we’re riding in or whether an RPG will be shot into the building where the orphanage is.” She nibbled on her full lower lip. “You can tell I’m a genuine worrier.”

            He reached over, his hand covering hers for a moment. “Listen, I’ve got the next week off. We’re on standby for Thanksgiving. I’d be glad to ride shotgun with you two, stay with you where you work for the day, and then get you back here to Bagram.”

            Matt slowly removed his hand from hers. Her skin felt like firm velvet, those slender hands of hers long and delicate. He imagined what they would feel like across his body. That sent his erection, which was already pressing against his zipper, into overdrive.

            This woman turned him on. In fact, she turned him inside out. There was a deep sensitivity to Dara, one that he wanted to intimately explore with her.

            “Could you do that, Matt?”

            “Sure. I’ll just let my CO know, get authorization, and I’ll be yours for the rest of the week.”

            “But couldn’t that be dangerous?”

            He grinned a little. “Dara, my business is dangerous all the time. So riding with you in a van, checking out the building where you two are working, and riding back in a van to Bagram is child’s play compared to what we usually do. Okay?”

            He saw her eyes darken and grow concerned. Now Dara was worried about him! He’d have laughed, but he realized that she was a civilian and had no clue as to what he did in black ops.  Not that the Army was telling anyone about Delta Force. They weren’t, so he couldn’t fault Dara for her reaction.

            “That would be wonderful! Honestly, I’d never tell Callie this, but I cringe thinking about coming here. I just don’t ever feel safe or completely relaxed.”

I  could so picture this book as a Christmas Movie! It was so freakin' cute and a great message about the christmas spirit and children's belief in Santa. The first in Sierra Donovan's Evergreen Lane series, I look forward to more. All the characters are intriguing and the older lot are a hoot. This is such a sweet read.     

Mandy is a great character, she is a dreamer but she is strong, she never let the disbelief of her friends and family stop her from believing what she saw. She loves Christmas and what it represents and she even works in a year round Christmas store. Even though she was teased tremendously for her adamant belief the town still loves her and she is such a big part of why people visit especially for their kids. Jake is a realist as a location scout for a national chain of hotels if he can't see it he doesn't believe it. But his perception on life all changes when he meets Mandy. 

Jake was just there to see if the tiny town of Tall Pine would be a good location for the chain of hotels he works for. Meeting Mandy made him work twice as hard to prove to the town that letting in one National chain wouldn't ruin the town but help it. But even more he wants to be in Tall Pine longer to be with Mandy. Jake loves everything about Mandy and Mandy loves Jake too especially since he has never heard about her past and the fact that she believes in Santa. Mandy is scared that once he finds out he'll think she is a loon and leave, but the longer she keeps it a secret the guiltier she feels but it finally comes out and her secret is revealed and Jake doesn't leave. Jake doesn't believe but he's not going to try and change her, he loves her as she is and he is willing to go to great lengths to prove it.   

Overall, this is such a sweet and feel good book.    

When Mandy Reese was eight years old, she saw Santa

Claus.

She slipped out of her room on Christmas Eve after her mother went to bed. As Mandy tiptoed down the hall, trying to be silent, she thought of the poem: Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. . . .

The Christmas tree was still lit up in the living room, as if it, too, were waiting. The nighttime cold of the house bit through her flannel nightgown, and Mandy wished she’d grabbed her robe and slippers. But she didn’t want to risk going back down the hall and waking her mother. So she pulled a heavy blanket down from the back of the sofa and curled up under it. She laid her head on the arm of the couch to get a good view of the tree at the end of the room near her head, and the fireplace at the other end, down by her feet.

Barely daring to breathe, she waited.

The lights from the tree were bright enough to show the time on the clock over the mantel: almost eleven-thirty. Mandy’s vigilant eyes drifted from the fireplace to the tree and back. She knew there was no way she’d fall asleep.

But it felt as if some time had passed when something made her sit up.

The only light in the room still came from the tree, yet somehow it seemed brighter in here. Her eyes darted to the fireplace. And he was there.

He did wear a red suit, although it was a darker red than she’d seen on the Santas at the store—the ones she’d always been told were just helpers for the real Santa. His beard was full and white, his eyebrows were bushy, and his eyes were blue. Not quite twinkly, a little more serious than that, but warm and friendly as they met hers. She’d heard that watching for Santa could make him pass you by, but that hint of a glimmer in his eye told her she wasn’t in trouble.

Mandy opened her mouth to speak, but she couldn’t think of a single word to say. The whole room felt hushed, as if time were standing still.

She couldn’t be dreaming because her heart was beating so fast. But she remembered to pinch her forearm, hard, just to be sure. It hurt, all right.

He took a step backward, toward the chimney, and raised a black-gloved finger. At first Mandy thought he was going to put it to his lips, signaling her to be quiet. But he rested it alongside his nose, just like the poem, and nodded.

The room brightened, and Mandy had to shut her eyes against the glare.

When she opened them, the light in the room had returned to the normal Christmas-tree glow, and he was gone. She heard the clock on the mantel ticking; she didn’t remember hearing the sound while Santa was in the room. The hands showed it was just after midnight, although she knew for certain she hadn’t heard it chime.

She pinched her arm again. Once again, it hurt. When she looked down, she saw a small red mark forming right next to the spot she was pinching now.

Under the tree, she couldn’t see any difference in the number of presents. But she remembered what her mother always told her: Santa Claus was about more than presents.

“I saw him,” she whispered.

ARC REVIEW Bear It All by Rochelle Paige

Rochelle Paige paranormals are some of my favorites. Bear it All is book two of the McMahon Clan series a spin off of The Black River Pack series. I highly recommend these. They are absorbing, they pull me in. The narrative is first person POV from both Tahlia and Braden and done in such a way it feels like they really are sharing their story with you. The prologue is a great reminder of what has happened and introduction and a brief get to know you for Tahlia.

Tahlia is a lion shifter and from a young age her mother has been training her in just about everything. She gets so good that she catches the eye of the Shifter Council and is asked be an enforcer. She is good at what she does and she earns the respect of the Council members. When Councilmen McMahon needs the help of someone on the outside of his clan he asks Tahlia. Tahlia almost said no but when she heard why she couldn't refuse, only this case is lasting a whole lot longer than any of them thought and being a stripper is not Tahlia's idea of an ideal job. Finally after three months she has some useful information.

Braden has been working almost nonstop with his father trying to track down the people behind the attempted murder of Braden's sister and attempted kidnapping of his niece. So far none of the leads has panned out until his father calls him up and explains he has a person on the inside. He has placed someone at one of the Honey Pot locations to see if they can hear anything. Braden never expected to suddenly find his mate on stage taking her clothes off, even worse is that she is the inside informant his father placed there and that he almost blew her cover.

Tahlia knows that one of her "fans" has been asking specific questions about the McMahon clan, she figures he must have some knowledge. She also know that he is going to come in on her next day to see her. So now they have three days to set up a way to trap him and get the information needed. That's three days Braden and Tahlia have to get to know each other, but they can't claim each other as mates yet, because if this "fan" is a shifter then he would be able to tell immediately. But just because they can't claim each other doesn't mean they will keep their hands off each other.

Overall this was a great book, it was hot and exciting. I have loved all of them.  

ARC REVIEW In the Company of Wolves by Paige Tyler

In the Company of Wolves is book three in Paige Tyler's SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team series. Ohhh, I loved it. Paige Tyler has a way about her writing that's just completely... wow. Like with the other two books Paige Tyler takes the Alpha Shifters of  the Dallas SWAT team and throws them into unexpected situations. So far we have just seen alphas but that's not all there are as we see in this exciting new addition to the series.

Eric Becker fell in love at first sight, the fact that she was holding a  gun to his head didn't cloud matters at all. But the fact that she is part of the new gang of criminals infiltrating Dallas put a bit of a damper on the whole she's my mate thing. Gage Dixon gets a tip that the new band of thugs will be hitting a warehouse is the first lead they have had and the team doesn't hold back especially when they realize the thieves are shifters too. The sweet smell of Becker's mate switches him to protective mood and risks his career to make sure she gets out alive and not in handcuffs. With Landry's help Becker hides her in a crate and breaks perfume bottles over her to hide her scent from the others. Only Becker's ingenuity and loads of patience lead him back to her.

Jayna Winston found out she was a shifter when her stepfather tried to rape her. She left home after nearly killing him for trying, ever since she has been traveling with another group of shifter who are like her betas lead by the alpha who saved her from living on the streets. Only recently has her faith in her alpha wavered, ever since he got the pack mixed up with the Albanian mob and a group of unbalanced and wild omegas. Claiming he owed them money and the only way to pay it off was to work it off by robbing certain places and basically help take over the Dallas area. Jayna stays because she is worried about her pack mates they aren't strong enough on their own and their loyalty to their alpha is strong even if he is risking their lives. Jayna doesn't know why the good looking SWAT guy didn't arrest her but she isn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth but when he tracks her down she doesn't know what to think she just has an unnerving urge to confide everything to him.

Becker risks his life and his job to protect Jayna and her pack mates from the omegas and the crazy Albanian mobsters, by going undercover as an omega. His plan to turn them against each other starts off good but works a little too well. Becker and Jayna even have time to get to know each other and reaffirm with each other that they are mates. Jayna also has to come to terms with the fact that she is now the alpha for her pack.

Overall, very exciting, from beginning to end it's almost non-stop action. And I'm waiting on baited breath for Landry Cooper's book.
