ARC REVIEW Nirvana by J.R. Stewart

This is a review for the revised version of this book. I liked the story, but it wasn't anything like I was expecting. With it being science fiction I figured it would be more about the VR aspect of the story, I mean the name of the book is the name for their VR world, but it's more about environmental science and the "utopian/dystopian" life after the extinction. That's one thing I loved the very realistic and plausible events that almost killed off the planet. The bees started to disappear, and with the extinction of bees the majority (not all but a lot of them) of the plant life died with them, with the plants gone it created something very similar to the dust bowl effect, also the water started to disappear. The only reason this is a young adult is because the main character is a teenager, a teenager who is about as mature as a thirty year old. It was a really interesting read, it made you think. It's a good sci-fi action mystery. I can see this as a series on t.v. with the Logan's Run feel to it.

 Larissa Kenders is exceptional at whatever she does; she is very intelligent and brilliant on the guitar; she is an animal activist in a dying world. Kender's soul mate, Andrew, is the brilliant mind behind the virtual realty world known as Nirvana. The company Hexagon has tried to create a utopian world for the people, they even require them, as stress relief,  time in Nirvana. Hexagon claims it's trying to make a better world, but when Andrew disappears Kenders discovers all the secrets Hexagon thought it buried and will kill to keep them buried. Kenders doesn't know who she can trust anymore, everyone is telling her Andrew is dead but she knows the truth. Andrew visits her in Nirvana, he has to be careful because Hexagon sees everything. Fighting against insurmountable force Kenders' only hope is to find Andrew.

Overall I really enjoyed reading this book, I wish it had more of the VR in it, but it was a good read.

ARC REVIEW The Bad Boy CEO by Sugar Jamison

The Bad Boy CEO is the start of a new series for Sugar Jamison (at least I hope it is). Well Sugar has created three brothers that I fell in love with; completely different personality types but that just makes them lovable in the way that they are different. I love the way Sugar Jamison writes, and how she describes Zanna, I love that she made her resemble Raquel Welch. The story was enjoyable and the characters are very memorable.

This book centers around the middle brother, Colt, but has small views into the other brothers love life as well. Duke the eldest and the creative one, Colt the middle child and the brains behind the whole business. and Levi the baby and the T.V. star former race car driver. The brother all act like they don't like one another but they do, everything Colt has done is to make sure his brothers stay safe and together. After Duke got out of jail and started doing custom car stuff Colt made it possible for the Duke King brand name end up everywhere. When Levi started to risk his life racing Colt made a job for him host and star of the King's Customs' shop reality show. Colt is gruff but very loyal, when his aunt called up the brothers and said that she was dying and needed them home. Forced to go back to their hometown they swore they would never return to the brothers pack their bags and leave to back to Destiny.

From the moment Zanna held her shotgun on Colt wearing nothing but her underwear Colt knew he was a gonner. Zanna is leasing a room from Lolly, the King brother's Aunt, and she wasn't expecting anyone to walk into her home let alone a gorgeous bad boy. Zanna has sworn off bad boys, she has a weakness for them but they are always getting her into trouble, so much trouble she's hiding out from her last boyfriend. Zanna is determined to stay away from Colt and Colt never having felt this way before is determined to steer away from the drop dead sexy woman. Aunt Lolly has other plans. She wants Colt to modernize her beauty salon, and help the manager bring the shop up to date. Little did Colt know the manager is Zanna. Together, after Colt stops acting like he knows everything, they start to clean up and fix up the shop. Colt has a big chip on his shoulder when it comes to the people of Destiny; growing up they were always the poor trash of the town, but now with a multi million dollar empire he is determined to show everybody how that is no longer true and that he is so much better then them now. The sexual chemistry between Zanna and Colt is combustible and in no time they are burning up the sheets. Zanna isn't expecting much from Colt she knows he's not here to stay, but all that reminding doesn't stop her from falling in love. Both they both must get past their issues, Colt and his chip on the shoulder and Zanna and her past.

Overall, this was a fun read, and I hope that we get the full story for each of Duke and Levi romances.      

ARC REVIEW Rising Storm episode 7+8: Weather the Storm and Thunder Rolls

This week's episode of Rising Storm, Weather the Storm is brought to us by Lisa Mondello. Really not much happens in this one which is why I'm choosing to do both 7 and 8 in this post. Weather the Storm is about the Pastor and his wife dealing with the fact that their son has just been diagnosed on the autism scale. Lisa Mondello does a great job with the internal struggle of Tara and Bryce's marriage dealing with not only the changes they have to make as a family with an autistic child but with an older child acting out because of the added attention their sibling is getting. It also touches on Bryce's fear of dealing with his son, because of childhood experiences. I think Lisa Mondello did a great job with the story, if you take out the few references to Storm and the other players of the series this could be a really good stand alone novella about making marriage work romance.

In this book is also Dakota being a drama queen, her and Senator Rush break up and he opens his big mouth about him and Ginny just to hurt Dakota's feelings, you almost feel bad for her; and also Kristin and Travis' affair isn't as secret as they would think.

The season finale!!! and boy did I call it.  That is one thing about this series it was very predictable on what was going to end up happening. I was right about another thing, and so help me I was hoping I was going to be wrong about this, it ended in a cliffhanger.

Hannah has just recently realized she is in love with the wrong brother. She doesn't even remember how her relationship with Tate started it just kind of did. But now she knows how Tucker feels, and there's no denying it any longer. It's just too bad Tate walks in on them after Tucker and Hannah have sex for the first time. Tucker tells his family that even if it means losing his brother Hannah is worth it.

And so the climactic reveal... We all knew what Dakota was going to do. As much as she hates Ginny and now Senator Rush it's no surprise she finds just the right opportunity to spill the beans, especially after she went through all the trouble of finding proof. So everything I thought would happen with Ginny happened except she has an unexpected friend. That's all I'm saying about that I hope I was vague enough not to spoil it.

Overall, this story, I liked the Hannah, Tate, and Tucker story. Normally I don't care for love triangles but this one was so short and to the point I liked it. The big explosion of secrets was greatly amusing. I loved and hated how this ended.
Overall, the series, it wasn't enough for me. I love my HEA and as a soap that will never happen. I have lots of predictions for what will happen, but unless my feelings about this series change to a Love to Hate thing I doubt I will read the next season.

I would like to thank InkSlingerPR for offering this series for me to read and even though I didn't really care for it it was an experience and I'm glad I got to read it. ARC REVIEW Wicked Edge by Rebecca Zanetti

More Wicked Goodness from Rebecca Zanetti. This is the second book of the Dark Protectors spin off series, The Realm Enforcers. Wicked Edge is typical Zanetti, Alpha male meets his match in a strong willed and stubborn woman. I love the direction this book went and who the characters were. This book takes you across the world as Daire and Cee Cee try and track down the villains behind the mining of the deadly mineral that has the abilities to kill witches and temporarily give humans powers but can also kill them too; also tracking down the demon who killed Cee Cee's mate. This was a great read, fun, edge of your seat action that will blow you away.

Daire sees her across a crowded room, her come hither looks, dark eyes and white blond hair is calling to Daire; daring him to come get some. Daire answers the call he takes her home and is promptly drugged and knocked out. Cee Cee hated to do this to Daire, but it is all a means to the end she needed the intel that the Coven has on the mines letting her know who owns which mines so she doesn't accidentally blow up the wrong ones. Daire wakes up pissed beyond belief but he manages to track down Cee Cee in Norway just in time to save her bacon from a backstabbing demon. But not quite in time to stop her from imploding all the mines that are owned by one particular demon she has been strategically working to ruin. Daire is also there to protect her from the vicious polar bears and another demon attack. Finally when they are safe after having their helicopter shot down and having to spend the night on a tiny frozen island; Cee Cee finally reveals her intentions. Daire and the other want to help but Cee Cee still has everything planned out and doesn't need him in the way, even if it means knocking him out again and kind of destroying his penthouse apartment. Unfortunately for her witches can build up antibodies and by the time she tries for the third time to knock him out he has the antibodies and the knock out drug doesn't work anymore.

Daire is so good, I love him, he is the gruff one the tough one but when it comes to Cee Cee he's so sweet. He is determined to protect her even if she doesn't want it or think she needs it. It gets to the point I was yelling at the book, "Just give it up already!" When it comes to Cee Cee's family he handles them so well. This book is practically nonstop action, it's funny in the typical Zanetti fashion also. Overall. this book is another winner for Rebecca Zanetti.

“Hey,” Chief Wyatt Lockwood called softly, wanting to catch Tal Culver’s  attention but not have her reach for that pistol on her thigh. “How are you feeling now, Captain?”

          Tal jerked to a halt and spun around, her hand automatically going for the damned pistol. Even in the dusk, Wyatt could see the fear and shock in her narrowing eyes, her palm automatically coming to rest on the butt of her safed .45. He smiled and held up his hands, leaving a good six feet between them.

            “Hey, I’m unarmed, darlin’,” he teased in his drawl. He saw her eyes move to his two drop holsters with SIGs in them.

          “You’re never unarmed, Chief,” Tal muttered, pulling her hand away from her .45 pistol and slowly straightening to her full six feet.

            He lowered his hands, allowing them to rest easily on his hips as he studied her in the dusk. The entrance to the B-hut was a good hundred feet away. She couldn’t just turn, slip into it, and slam the door in his face. Not this time.

            He noticed that her voice was sharp with adrenaline, and he felt guilty for alarming her. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to scare the bejesus out of you.” He hitched a thumb toward the chow hall in the distance. “I spotted you coming from chow and thought I’d intercept you, see how you’re feelin’ after your coughing and choking episode.”

            Well, that was half true. It was a good reason to get her to drop that icy shield she kept around her. The fear dissolved in her eyes, replaced by a spark of anger. Why?

          “I’m fine,” she muttered, the tension bleeding out of her. “Now leave me alone, please.”

          He adopted his old cowboy slouch and said, “Hey, I’d like to take you out for pizza and beer some night. If you’re like me, you could use some downtime after those last ops we were on . . .”

            “Are you crazy? I’m not going anywhere with you, Lockwood.” She couldn’t believe his gall. Hadn’t he gotten the point yet? She wasn’t interested! Well, that wasn’t quite true. Her body sure as hell was interested in the lanky, casual SEAL, but her heart? That was wholly another matter. Tal wasn’t a love-’em-and-leave-’em type; she was never interested in one-night stands. What interested her was a long-term, serious relationship. And she knew Wyatt Lockwood wasn’t interested in that sort of ongoing affair.

            He looked down at himself and then up at her. “Crazy? Not since the last time I checked. Why not go out with me?”

            Okay, so sweet-talking wasn’t going to work. Wyatt knew they had simmering chemistry between them. It had always been there. He wasn’t a SEAL for nothing. They went after what they wanted. He straightened and walked right up to her, took her gently by the arm, and led her over to the side of the materials and supply building, placing her back against it. This way, she had no place to go, since he was standing a foot away from her, looking into her shocked eyes.

            Taking her completely by surprise, he said, “I really like you, Captain, but you won’t even let me get my foot in the door. It’s been three years now, so you can’t say I’m not patient. So satisfy my curiosity, okay? What’s going on here?”

            Unsettled by his bluntness, she took a minute to get her thoughts together and came up with the most important reason first. “It’s obvious, even if it’s escaped your notice. I’m an officer and you’re enlisted, and never the twain shall meet. You know those are the rules, even if you are a stubborn damn SEAL and think you can break rules whenever it suits you.”

          She reminded him of a cornered female bobcat, all hisses, spits, and growls. “That’s never stopped me before, and it shouldn’t stop you, either.” He looked around the base, watching the night throw its shadowy cape across the busy desert Army base. Returning his gaze to her, he said, “I know a number of safe places here on base where a man and woman who want total privacy can get it.”

          “I’ll just bet you do,” Tal retorted, her fists clenched at her sides. “Listen carefully, Lockwood. I want nothing to do with you. Period. Does that compute?”

            He took off his baseball cap and scratched his combed hair. “Well, no, not exactly, darlin’.”

            Her fine nostrils flared and her voice quivered. “Don’t you dare call me that word. Save that for all the other women you routinely chase around here.”

          His brows rose. “Ahhh, my legendary reputation has preceded me. Well, I’d like to share my philosophy with you—”

          “Don’t bother! Matt told me all about your ‘living for today’ attitude.”

          “It’s a good philosophy, don’t you think?” He allowed a hint of a smile to leak from his mouth, wanting to kiss the hell out of those petulant, full lips of hers. Had anyone ever told this woman how sexy, how earthy and sensual she was beneath that godawful uniform she wore? Just because she was a Marine didn’t mean she wasn’t sexual.

          “No! I don’t do sex for sex’s sake, so get me off your radar, Chief Lockwood.”

          “Now,” he crooned in his best drawl, “the woman I want to take to bed and make love to is my whole world. She’s the only thing on my radar, darlin’. I want to hear her talk, listen to the tenor of her voice, feel how soft her skin is, how responsive she is when I start to please her. My woman is all I live for in that moment. ARC REVIEW Ex-Con by M.S. Parker and Shiloh Walker

An outstanding pairing with these two authors. M.S. Parker and Shiloh Walker is a great read. It's not one of my favorites but it is definitely a great read if you are a fan of either Ms. Parker or Ms. Walker or love misunderstood bad boys. I am finding that I enjoy a good anti hero or just an alpha who got sucked into the wrong situation and then seen as a bad guy. This story is written in the first person from the POV of Bobby Cantrell, our "bad boy". I am really picky about first person stories, only because I am stingy I like knowing everything; and I'm not usually keen of male POV, but this was a good one. The story was predominantly focused on the relationship between Bobby and Carly, as well as Bobby coming to grips with being worth more than what he thinks he is. There is also a suspense aspect that ends with a climatic and very exciting ending.

Bobby Cantrell just lost another job because of his ex-con status, saving every last penny he has he chooses to walk the six miles home on his way home fate intervenes. Carly Prince is the daughter of a very famous and very loved singer and has lived in the spotlight all her life. Carly is looking for a new bodyguard, and after a good looking stranger saves her from getting run over then putts himself between her and the paparazzi all without knowing who she is; Carly knows she has found her man all she and her current bodyguards have to do is convince him to take the job and his ex-con status doesn't matter. The sexual chemistry between Bobby and Carly is like a powder keg ready to explode. The two are crazy for each other but Bobby has issues dealing with his ex-con status and not feeling worthy of the job, feeling worthy of Carly and everything that has been happening to him. Bobby becomes good friends with the older bodyguard that he is replacing. But things happen and Bobby and Carly are kept apart. Meanwhile, both Carly and Bobby have been receiving threatening letters centered around the crime that Bobby committed.

Overall, this was a really good quick read.
