Katie Ruggle's Rocky Mountain Search and Rescue series started the beginning of this year with the (still free!) prequel On His Watch followed by Hold Your Breath and Fan the Flames. With more to come this year. For the exception of the prequel there is a continuing mystery which keeps you reading the series. As a whole I love this series so far, the characters are all very relatable with their personal issues and attitude. The on going mystery starts with Callum and Lou in Hold Your Breath when Lou is going through a training exercise and accidentally finds a dead body weighted down in the frozen over lake. Lou a former lawyer decides that she's the only who can figure out what's going on. The mystery of the whodunit and the why are still a mystery that continue over into Fan the Flames where sexy sexy fireman/biker Ian is being framed for the murder of the dead guy. Even after the book is over the mystery continues, not that it leaves you with a cliffhanger this story arc is the only thing that carries through the books everything else ends, happily.
This is a great starter. It has a brief but funny intro to all the characters, an exciting plot, and some steamy chemistry. For Derek, Artemis has been and will be the only girl for him, but years ago he gave her up because he didn't want to drag her down with his criminal activities. Artemis moved on married someone else and then divorced that someone else and now has been longingly watching Derek from afar. But when the school organizes an educational field trip for the kids that involve the Search and Rescue team to explain what they do and how they do it brings Derek and Artemis together. Even more so after the demonstration turns into an actual search and rescue for two sisters. Derek and Artemis search together and get stuck in a snowstorm. Lots of mishaps happen and most importantly they talk. They talk about the past and what happened with her marriage and what led to the divorce, and why he did what he did; then they kiss and makeup.
Overall this was a short, exciting, and fantastic read. I'll remind you again this one is still FREE!
The first book of the series is a great one. Lou and Callum have such a funny start. Louise Sparks is a firecracker! She brings a little bit of chaos into Callums clean and organized life. Lou doesn't see it right away because she's new and doesn't know Callum like everyone else but he acts differently around her and once it's pointed out to her she acts on her feelings. If it wasn't for her stalker things might have never happened. Lou's stalker is subtle at first but like most things quickly escalate and Callum is there to protect Lou. To top it all off Lou is trying to discover the identity of the dead guy she discovered. Lou is all for a fling with Callum but she just got out of a very controlling relationship and controlling parents she wants to embrace her freedom to do what she wants. And what she wants now is to find out who the dead guy is, who killed him, and why? Callum is stubborn and he isn't about to let Lou do all that on her own and risk her life doing it especially since she has a stalker on the loose. Callum just has to convince Lou that he doesn't want to control her just protect her.
Overall, I fell in love with this book. it is funny, exciting and Callum is sweet as hell.
Book two brings us Ian story. The bad boy biker Fireman, rwar. Ian is being framed for the murder of the dead guy Lou discovered in book one, but Lou knows for a fact that he is being framed because the so called "evidence" wasn't on the body when they first dragged it out of the lake. Ian is trying to figure it out on his own but the woman he has been in love with since he was a kid has become the focus of some stalker type problem. Rory was raised by paranoid doomsday preppers. She has been trained to be the same, never letting anybody close and always able to protect herself any given situation, even the zombie apocalypse. After her parents died and Rory was running the gun shop on her own Ian made himself a permanent fixture in her life slowly biding his time until she is comfortable enough around him to let him in. But her problems are linked to his MC and he is ready to turn against them and his step father to protect her. Rory never knew she had so many friends, being socially awkward she never knew how to communicate with people unless they were talking about guns but when Ian gets arrested she rallies the troops to help. Rory has alway been in love Ian and with a gentle push from Ian she finally lets him in.
Overall, this is a great story about a socially awkward woman and the wicked hot bad boy. The best part is that it's not over yet.

ARC REVIEW Test Drive by Marie Harte
Two years ago Marie Harte released the McCauley Brothers series. I read the last two, Ruining Mr. Perfect and What to do with a Bad boy this book is a spin off of the latter of the two. The characters from Murphy's Garage that were introduced are finally getting their stories. Unfortunately it's been two years and A LOT of book later I didn't remember the characters right of the bat and I felt a little confused with the abundance of character intros in the very first chapter. It's not necessary that you read The McCauley Brothers series, this is a new series and everyone is reintroduced, but it is very obvious that it is a spin off from another series and be warned the majority of the characters are all introduced in the very first chapter rather succinctly. Not that it's a bad thing I just wasn't prepared and felt a little lost at first.
The story was strictly romance, two people who have been spying each other over the bar and have been friends. Not for the lack of trying on Johnny's part he's asked Lara out a dozen times already and she still turns him down. Lara has seen what working your self to the bones just to get by like her parents and has watched repeatedly her sister go from one husband to the next in search of someone to financially take care of them. Lara isn't going to be like that she has a plan and that doesn't include having a man in her life, not even one as hot as Johnny.
Lara's brother-in-law, soon to be ex-brother-in-law, starts to give her sister a hassle about the divorce and says he trusts only Lara (who used to be a CPA until she realized she hated it and for some convoluted reasoning he wants her to deal with the financial aspect of the divorce) especially since the divorce lawyer her sister was sleeping with called quits and was stuck without one. But Lara knows the true motives behind his reasoning which is to get Lara to sleep with him, something he's been trying to do since before her sister and him married. Knowing just what a douche he is Lara sets up the meeting at the bar and asks Johnny to keep an eye out for her in case anything happens. That's how it all starts. From the moment Johnny saved Lara her whole look but don't touch dissolved and as much as she tries Johnny is bound to her. Lara just has to get over her misconception that every man whats to change her and that she will lose her identity and self in a relationship.
Overall, it was a cute romance I enjoyed the characters and story pretty much. I look forward to the rest of the boys getting theirs.

ARC REVIEW Dead End Fix by T.E. Woods
Book 6 in T.E. Woods' Mort Grant/Justice series. It was a good read I don't think it's quite as good as the previous books. The two stories that usually run parallel throughout the book cross at some point and the unrelated stories are more connected then originally thought. This book, however, the two have nothing in common except for the moral of the story. The two separate stories were good but not the suspenseful, edge of you seat, gripping story. Another issue was the lack of Lydia. I love her and her part of the story, I loved how it played out, was the best part too bad there wasn't more. Allie who really has shown off her psychotic entitlement issues before really shows them now. Mort is faced with the moralities of justice and not every bodies views of justice is the same especially when it comes to gang life.
When we last left Mort and Lydia they just found out that Allie had kidnapped one of her nieces. Mort asked Lydia track her down and find his granddaughter. Allie outright hates Lydia, she thinks Lydia stepped into her place in Mort's life. Allie is determined to get her family back and get rid of Lydia. Thankfully Lydia is freakin' brilliant and is three steps ahead of Allie the whole book.
Meanwhile on the streets of Seattle; a young boy is killed in a drive by shooting. Even though it is apparently gang related and against the advise of the gang unit at the station Mort keeps digging trying to find out who murdered this young boy whose only fault was wearing his older brother's jacket. Another young man, who has been looking for a family connection seeks out the local gang, The 97, to join their family. The young man witnessed the boy get shot down and used the rival gang patch, the Picos, on the jacket as his way in with the 97s. Lying he tells the leader that he killed a Pico and earns his way in. The murder of the boy stirs the pot and the gang members start killing each other left and right. The truth can't hide forever and soon gang justice is swift.
Overall, it was a good read but I wish they were switched and Lydia and Allie were the predominate story, but I liked the conclusion.

BLOG TOUR Hero: Impossible #13 by Julia Sykes
Book 13 in the USA Today Bestselling Impossible Series—Can be read as a standalone.
A man with a broken heart…
The agony of losing the woman I love to another Dominant has left me dead inside. Over the last two years, sex has become my drug of choice to cope with the loss. I know I’m too broken to ever love again, but that won’t stop me from trying to fuck my pain away.
A woman with a painful past…
I’m not interested in intimacy, but I am interested in sex. As a BDSM romance novelist, I need to explore the world of kink for my books. The power exchange is meaningless; nothing more than research. Until I meet him. The powerful Dom won’t relent until he breaks down all my walls, including the ones that protect my ravaged heart.
Bound together by lust and danger…
Chloe Martin is a BDSM romance author by night and an investigative journalist by day. When the latter brings her to the New York unit of the FBI to research the Latin Kings, she never expects her two careers to collide. The agent she’s shadowing—Dexter Scott—is also a Dominant, and he’s interested in helping with her research in the field and in the bedroom.
But Chloe’s story on the Latin Kings puts her in the line of fire, and Dex’s protective—and possessive—instincts kick in. Can he let go of his pain and find his happily ever after? Or will the danger that surrounds them steal his second chance at love?
This is my first Julia Sykes book, and while I was a bit hesitant to start especially since this is book 13 of the series, I was happy to discover that it really didn't matter. There was a brief sums up of what had happened previously just enough to fill you in on whats important and to tease you with wanting to go back and read the previous books. The overall story was okay, it concentrated more on the seduction of Chloe. I enjoyed the BDSM and eroticism of the book, it was very well described and accurate. I liked Chloe but I wasn't crazy over Dex, more because he's not my favorite kind of Dom. The story did hit a hard limit with me and that spanking for punishment especially for a non-scene related issue. It pulled me out of the story and I had a hard time getting back in to the fantasy of the story. (Of course it's a personal preference thing) I also had a hard time liking Dex because he spent most of the time trying to get over a lost love, the majority of the book he is still whining about it. (been there done that IRL don't want it for possible book boyfriends) Chloe I did like, she was dealing with her horrible marriage the only way she could and that was submerging herself in her work both her journalism and her erotic novel writing. After what had happened she wasn't ready for an intimate relationship anytime soon. ( and this I did like) Dex was gentle enough with her and had a subtle dominance that she easy could deal with once she admitted she really wanted it.
Overall, the BDSM aspect of the book and Chloe were my favorite, I really like those but the above mentioned person preferences kept me from really enjoying and liking the book.
“Your safe word is red,” Dex told me. “Can you remember that?”
“Of course I can.” A hint of my indignation returned. Did he really think I was so dim that I couldn’t remember a simple safe word.
The pressure of the crop beneath my chin increased, tipping my head back farther and forcing me up onto my toes.
“Don’t be so sure. I’m going to take you so high, you’ll forget your own name. But don’t forget that one word.”
I wanted to say that I doubted his arrogant assertion. No Dom had ever sent me into subspace. I might play the role of a sub for my scenes, but I never truly submitted. But something deep within me whispered that I’d already lost. I’d made the mistake of engaging in a power play with him, and I’d ceded to his will. I’d thought I was fully in control of the scene, but what had seemed like small changes—the blindfold, the gentle caresses of the crop instead of painful strikes, his low, firm commands rather than barked orders—had made me come undone.
“Good girl,” he said again before I could gather my wits enough to formulate a flippant response.
“I didn’t say anything,” I protested weakly. I’d done nothing to earn his praise. The crop tenderly traced the line of my jaw. I suddenly wished he’d touch me with his fingertips instead. My teeth sank into my lower lip as I bit back a plea for him to put his hands on me.
“You didn’t have to say anything,” he told me in that same smooth, soothing tone. “And you don’t have to fight me. I can tell you’re trying to resist. Submit.”
“I can’t,” I whispered.
“Yes, you can. You just don’t want to. But I’m not giving you a choice. Your only way out of this is your safe word.”
A beat of silence passed. He was giving me the opportunity to escape. But I said nothing. I sealed my fate.
“Excellent. You’ve pleased me, Chloe.” The smooth leather traced the swell of my breasts again, and I arched into him as carnal sensation overwhelmed me. “That feels good, doesn’t it?”
I moaned. A bite of pain nipped at me as the crop slapped the top of my breast.“I want a coherent answer,” he prompted, his voice lilting with arrogant amusement. A twin hit landed on my other breast, chastising me.
“Yes,” my shy admission was barely audible.
“Louder. And address me with respect.” The crop snapped against my sensitive inner thigh, and I cried out at the unexpected sting. With my sight taken, I couldn’t predict where the blows would land. It heightened my physical senses, making the relatively light hits inflict sensation that went deeper than my flesh. An odd tingling raced across my mind along with the sparks that danced across my skin. Thoughts turned hazy, and for a moment I floated.
Then the crop fell on my thighs again, snapping against one and then the other in rapid succession. I squealed and tried to close my legs, only to be reminded that they were held open by the spreader bar. My sound of protest transformed into a husky moan.“I asked you a question,” his voice threaded through my mind. “Tell me this feels good. Tell me you like pleasing me.”
“Yes,” my voice seemed detached from my consciousness, leaving my lips without thought. “Yes, it feels good.”
“Yes, Sir,” he corrected me with another, sharper slap against my thigh. My abused flesh throbbed with a delicious burn, the warmth spreading up into my pussy.“Yes,” I said more clearly. “It feels good, Sir.”
The crop suddenly pressed against my labia, stroking the wet folds. My head dropped back on a long sigh as pleasure flooded my mind.
“You mean it this time,” he said, his voice deep with satisfaction. “You called me Sir before because you thought it sounded like one of your romance novels. But this is the real thing, princess. A good Dom earns his sub’s respect.” He continued to stroke me with the crop, and my clit pulsed in need.
“I’m going to hit your clit, and you’re going to come for me,” he informed me. “But you’re going to ask me for it like a good girl. When we started, you demanded that I crop you. Do you want to try that request again?”
I whined my wordless resistance as a small part of me clung on to my final shreds of control.
He tapped the crop against my pussy lips, the light slap a promise of how he would stimulate my aching clit.
“We both know you want to come. I want it, too. I want you to give me a nice, big orgasm. Your pleasure is mine. Your body is under my control. I want to hear you admit it, to both of us. This is submission, princess. And you were made for it.”
His low, confident words wrapped around me like a caress even more erotic than the touch of the crop on my pussy. It was deeper than physical pleasure; it called to my soul.
I let out a blissful sigh, my entire body softening as I gave everything to him.
“That’s it,” he urged. “Surrender. Beg me for your orgasm.”
“Please make me come, Sir.”

Jake's theme song pretty much from the start of the series has been George Micheal's I'm Never Gonna Dance Again, well in my head at least. Then suddenly in the last book it switched to Maya. LOL! To my surprise when Jake first saw Maya she was dancing and I giggled at that. On to the book, if I was forced to use just one word to describe this book it would be HOT! Thankfully I can use more than one word because this book is so much more than just HOT. It was an emotional journey for three people finding true love coming to terms that it is possible to love more than one person at a time and getting their HEA finally. FOUR BOOKS! four book we have had to wait until Maya and Jake finally got their shit together, and then Carrie Ann Ryan throws in a curve ball in the form of Border. I normally don't read menage but I love Carrie Ann's. I just love the way she writes them. This book was everything I expected it to be and hotter. As strong as Maya is she shows a new side of herself a bit of vulnerability (whose theme is Heart's Alone). Border is the wild card and Carrie Ann played him well (Whitesnake's Is this Love). Jake, well, I think I love him a bit more after this book.
Overall, I loved the book. Carrie Ann Ryan went dirty.

Yes, she read as a kid and devoured teen fiction and Harry Potter, but it wasn’t until someone handed her a romance book in her late teens that she realized that there was something out there just for her. When another author suggested she use the voices in her head for good and not evil, The Redwood Pack and all her other stories were born.
