He Might Save Her
Former police psychologist Ronni Alexander had it all before a poison attacked her heart and gave her a death sentence. Now, on her last leg, she has an opportunity to live if she mates a vampire. A real vampire. One night of sex and a good bite, and she’d live forever with no more weaknesses. Well, except for the vampire whose dominance is over the top, and who has no clue how to deal with a modern woman who can take care of herself.
She Might Kill Him
Jared Reese, who has no intention of ever mating for anything other than convenience, agrees to help out his new sister-in-law by saving her friend’s life with a quick tussle in bed. The plan seems so simple. They’d mate, and he move on with his life and take risks as a modern pirate should. Except after one night with Ronni, one moment of her sighing his name, and he wants more than a mating of convenience. Now all he has to do is convince Ronni she wants the same thing. Good thing he’s up for a good battle.

His muscles tightened as he held himself in check.
She stretched her neck, her body moving against him. “I feel so good.” Holding out her hand, she twisted her arm left and right. “Strong. Well, stronger than I just was.”
She rubbed her palm along his whiskers. “That’s not all.”
Yeah. He felt it, too. Attraction. So he turned her to straddle him, feeling her body warm several degrees. “Let me know if I go too fast.”
She leaned in and settled her lips on his. “The first time I saw you, I thought wow. A real wow.”
Her breath brushed his mouth, and he stiffened to remain in control. “Is that a fact?” he asked, waiting for her to make a move. The last thing he wanted to do was frighten her, and he couldn’t tell how much stronger his blood had made her. If at all.
“Yes.” She nibbled at his bottom lip.
Magma boiled through his blood. “When I first saw you, I thought your eyes were the prettiest color I’d ever seen,” he said against her mouth. “Like a fine whiskey that has just caught the light.”
She kissed him, and he could feel her smile. “That’s sweet,” she whispered.Yeah. That was him. Sweet. Nobody in his entire life had called him that. “I don’t want to rush you,” he said.
She tunneled her hands through his hair and hummed. “But we’re on a bit of a deadline?”
“Yeah.” The slight tug of her fingers hazed red over his vision. “Don’t know how long your extra strength will last.” Probably not very long. And there could be repercussions to her damaged heart from his blood, so they had to mate and now. He stood, easily holding her to him. “Bedroom.”
She wrapped her legs around his waist. “Um. Okay.”

SPRING READING ARC REVIEWS

Spring reading I am going to be replacing that horrible "C" word cleaning, with books starting with the letter "C". I'll present to you three book from different genres, different authors, they have nothing in common except they all have titles starting with the letter "C".

Covered in Coal by Silla Webb. Crushed by Lauren Layne. Carnival Tricks by Jade Kerrion.

Crushed by Lauren Layne

First up Lauren Layne's Crushed is book two in the series Redemption. In the previous book we meet Michael St. Claire since then his life has been turned upside down. Michael left Manhattan leaving everything behind, except his car, he learned the truth that the man he thought was his father is not and that his biological father is in Texas. So Michael leaves the lights of New York for teaching tennis at an upscale country club. The idea was to see his father first then wrangle an introduction. His plan to do that involved one of his students a gorgeous young lady Kristen Bellamy. Kristen is dating his half brother, Devon. Kristen is a conceited cock tease and Michael was going to use her to get close to Devon until Kristen's twin shows up. Chloe is the exact opposite of her sister plump instead of model thin; smart and witty instead of clothes and makeup, the only thing they share is their love for Devon. Michael convinces Chloe into letting him be her personal trainer, not to lose weight but to get healthy, and it works the longer she stay at the better food choices she makes and drops a few pounds. The more time Chloe spends with Michael the more she likes him, and Michael her. Michael even confides in her the real reason he's here and where he comes from. But as always something happens that tears them apart just after they both realize they love each other and must both face some hard truths before gaining their HEA.

I loved this book, I didn't think I would like Michael after reading the last book but WOW, Chloe brings out the good in him. Chloe is fabulous and I wish I could be her, outrageous head of curly hair and everything. The relationship between Michael and Chloe was great, the sparks fly and even when they don't see it themselves it's there and it's palpable. A great book a must read!

Covered in Coal by Silla Webb

Covered in Coal by Silla Webb came out last year and is the first book of the Buried Secrets series was also her debut novel. Carly Jo Simonwas up shit creek without a paddle, she just found out she was pregnant and her boyfriend a boy she thought the sun rose and set on broke up with her the day before and when she went to her father for help but he just got made and said he wasn't raising a bastards child. Devastated and without the support she needs she ran away. Seven years later her Father is dying and she comes back to make amends. Her plan was to go back to her life but her father left her the whole company, and the CEO position in charge. Colton knows he screwed up and has never stopped loving Carly Jo and will do anything to prove it to her. After telling her the truth about why the breakup happened she accepts and forgives, but Colton is pushing her too hard and too fast for her to feel comfortable about making any decision. Throw in to the mix an old friend, a kindred spirit Luke has Carly Jo even more confused. Top it all off with finding out secrets buried by her father and a nemesis out to ruin everything having to do with the Simon name.

I loved the story I loved the premises, what I didn't like was Colton, I did not like him at all with shared first person POV with Carly Jo didn't help, it just made him seem more on the verge of unhealthy obsession and the most upsetting of all... I didn't know it was a cliffhanger!!! I think my exact words were.. " H..How the Fuck could it end there!" but none the less I will be getting book two and three...

Carnival Tricks by Jade Kerrion

Carnival Tricks is a special book it can be read as a stand alone or as an introduction to the Double Helix World. This science fiction universe that Jade Kerrion created seemed to me like a mix between Gattaca (loved that movie) and The X-Men. Like in Gattaca creating the "Perfect child" through genetic manipulation has become the thing to do, what no one expected was that these in vitro children would gain psychic powers. The Genetic Revolution has sprouted purest calling them Human Derivatives, and mutants like in X-Men they are categorized and rated the really powerful ones are rated Alpha and are some of the most hated and feared. Kyle Norwood is 100% human and proud of it everything he has and done has been by his own merit and hard work. Now working for The Three Fates he is charged with protecting two scientist as they make a transaction. Everything goes SNAFU and ends up in a firefight between a ruthless South American cartel and the IGEC (International Genetics and Ethics Council). Sofia Rios is just barely human, the telekinetic powers don't even register on any scale. Working and going to school Sofia gets caught in the middle of firefight at her job when she tries to save one of the men who got shot she was injected with a microchip. Sofia uncertain about what is on the chip isn't just about to hand it over to a drug cartel, IGEC, or even Proficere Labs. Kyle might not like her decision but he will stand by her and protect her with his life, but when he discovers the truth that Sofia is one of those "mutants" that he hates so much can he look past it and maybe see things instead of how he thinks he sees them.

You can't see me but I'm doing the grabby hands gesture. I want all the other and the ones to come. I love Sci-Fi and this world is so in depth and intricate it ties you up in knots, it digs in and spreads it roots into your brain not letting you go. I read Jade's contemporary first and love 'em and when I saw sci-fi was also a genre she wrote in I knew I had to read them and oh boy I love it.

These books were given as ARC by either the author or publisher in return for an honest review. It was my choice to put them in my spring reading post.

ARC REVIEW Haunting Suspicions by Kate Richards

Haunting Suspicions is another book from Fated Desire's Paranormal by Mistake line it is also book one in the new series Goldland by Kate Richards. I enjoyed the book it went where I wasn't expecting but... it ended too quickly for me. It was a rather abrupt ending and I wish there was more to it. I liked it enough that I would more than likely read the others in the series; the characters were well thought out and really likable.

Alden is the host for a paranormal debunker reality T.V. Show, Not On My Watch. His next job is the sudden appearance of the Indigo Princess ghost that haunts the tiny town of Goldland. Alden started his search but instead of finding a ghost he found Orlena. Orlena a cat shifter and the towns teacher, knows the secret behind the Indigo Princess, hesitant at first to start the hoax but the life of the town and the pack depends on it. Orlena's ancestors were the inspiration behind the ghost, and it has kept the town thriving. Alden and Orlena fall into insta-lust and all common sense went out the window. Orlena should have known better than to have unprotected sex on the full moon, now she needs to keep a close eye on Alden. She doesn't realize who Alden is until the next day when the rest of the crew shows up. Orlena is confused and stuck between a rock and a hard place knowing who Alden is and what he does and the fact that she may have just turned him into a cat shifter.

ARC REVIEW Before I Fall by Jessica Scott

Before I Fall is Jessica Scott's first jump in the New Adult genre and like her other books she does it well. New Adult isn't my favorite genre but I love Jessica Scott and she carried her talent over to this new series. A friend I review with on Ramblings from this Chick reviewed this also and I think she said it best, "...Scott does not sugar coat life in or out of the military". I think that is what I like so much about her, the raw emotions and no sugar coating; she is one of the few authors who makes me cry and I love it.

Beth Lamont has struggled with the hardships of life ever since her father came home wounded from war and her mother left at the age of sixteen. Struggling with her father's drug and alcohol problem because of back pain the VA classified as not their problem but the hospital charities classify as a VA problem. Beth has worked hard and using her her father's GI Bill to pay for her college education at a high dollar school and working two jobs as her stats professor's TA and as a waitress. I wouldn't say Beth hates everything Military she just hates what it does to the people in it and their families. When her stats professor offers her a job tutoring a former soldier she only gives in for the sheer fact she needs the money.

Noah Warren joined the military early to avoid a bad family situation, now out and officially a college student he is lost in a world he doesn't know. It has been years since he was a civilian and everything has changed. Noah made a promise to his LT and he intends to keep it and if that means stepping out of his comfort zone then so be it. To ensure his success he was even hired a tutor. He never expected a woman like Beth. Struggling to understand Beth has a way of explaining it to where he understands. Noah also has a very dirty mind when it comes to her he is obsessed with her body but also her strength, her intellect. When he is with her he can almost forget his own problems and he has his own fair share of problems. Noah understands Beth hesitancy when it comes to the relationship but they give it a go and Noah stand by her when her father's situation worsens. But when faced with the truth about Noah, Beth freaks a little, ok she over reacts.

I find myself at a loss of words when I have to describe Jessica Scott's books, they are angsty but not too angsty; she'll more than likely make you cry and she's an intelligent person and it transfers over to her books. She can tell a story from both sides because she understands the psychology behind why people would do certain things in certain situation. Which is great for this book because it is told in first person from both Noah and Beth's POV. Overall this was a great transition book for Jessica Scott.

ARC REVIEW Asylum by Jeannette de Beauvoir

Asylum is a mystery thriller that takes place in Canada. Jeannette de Beauvoir took actual events from Montreal's past, the skeleton in the closet that no one likes to talk about and and weaves a fictional story around these events. The fact that this was based on actual events makes the story all that more enjoyable and heart breaking. This book is not a romance it is strictly a mystery thriller. The main character Martine LeDuc is the head PR for the mayor's office, she is married to a quite a character, I almost wish he was in it more. Martine gets partnered up with a stereotypical rich boy who disappointed the family by going into social services, ie. Police Detective. It's a wonderful mystery and it satisfied my craving for one. It keeps you guessing up until the very end.

Martine loves her job as the director of PR for the mayor's office, the mayor not so much. Montreal has had a series of murders over the summer and  the mayor is afraid it will affect the upcoming tourist season, so he puts Martine in the position of liaison between the mayors office and the police. Martine isn't pleased with it but she finds out one of her workers was dating the latest victim, and she promises to do her best. Police Detective Julian Fletcher is assigned to help Martine. The theory on the serial murders is sexual, they were all raped and posed on different park benches, they were also mutilated. Julian has a different theory. All the woman didn't have anything in common, that they have found yet. Together with Martine's help they uncover that each of the woman were looking into the past, specifically the orphanages and asylums back in the fifties and sixties.

Running parallel to Martine's story are what looks like diary excerpts from a girl who was forced into an orphanage for being a bastard. At the end of most chapters is a little bit of what she went through and what she uncovered in her time at the orphanage and then the move to the asylum. Its adds a touch of drama and foreshadowing. I read this straight through, it was so good. The Author's note at the end separates truth from fiction and the truth of the story makes you cry.

ARC REVIEW The Trouble with Love by Lauren Layne

The Trouble with Love book four in the Sex, Love and Stiletto series; the book that came to be because fans wanted Emma's story. First off I have not read any of the other books in this series and I was not lost at all so it is safe to say it can be read as a standalone but that by no means means you should if the other books are half as good as this one they are worth the read. I was hesitant at first because I dislike books where there is a character in a current relationship, I don't like the temptation of cheating and one person getting hurt; well that did not happen so I was saved that. This is a case of the reluctant H/h, yes both of them. I love Lauren Layne's writing style it's funny and emotional; it ties you up inside and make you want to hit the characters over the head and say, "What's wrong with you?" I am definitely going to have to get the first three books in the series.

Emma Sinclair is the woman's magazine, Stiletto, number one authority on break ups and getting over them. Alex Cassidy is the editor in chief of the men's magazine, Oxford. With a past that even their best friends know only part of find themselves working together when Stiletto's editor and chief takes a leave of absence. In the honor of Christmas and flat out curiosity Alex charges Emma to write an article titled The 12 Ex's of Christmas where she finds must write about her past relationships and what went wrong and where are they now. Thinking that he would be a big one of that articles since they were at one point engaged. The shit really hits the fan not when Emma's apartment floods, or when she gets to live in her editors apartment while she's gone, not even when she finds out that Alex is going to be her boss for a couple of months no it's when she finds out her new neighbor is her ex and current boss, Alex.

At the beginning of the book Alex is dating but that doesn't last long as he and Emma quite literally watch her fall in love at first sight with Emma's blind date. Being in such close proximity to him is difficult they have been successfully avoiding each other for months. Now they must face the past as it slowly reveals itself to the reader with a nice flashback at one point. Emma and Alex fight with each other only to keep themselves from falling back in love, but you know it doesn't work and soon the are sleeping with each other again. Emma learns something about herself having to face her ex-boyfriends that she never fell out of love with Alex and Alex seeing Emma with her other ex's helps him realize something too.

It's an emotional story that had my heart in the palm is it's hands the entire time.

ARC REVIEW Need Me by Cynthia Eden

Book three in Cynthia Eden's Dark Obsessions series picks up pretty much where Want Me ended, even though all three books so far are stand alone. Just like with the others the hero finds himself in a case of inta-lust and a desperate need to protect lady love. I liked this one, Cynthia Eden just like always weaves a tale of desire and suspense. Devlin who acts like a closed off jerk in the first two is given his just desserts when Julianna shows up with an innocent and desperate cry for help.

In this book we have Julianna Smith who is suspected in the murder of her husband but is adamant she didn't kill him. She has come to Devlin Shade for protection because someone is trying to kill her. Devlin has no reason to not believe her but he knows she is hiding something, but when her car blows up in front of them he immediately takes charge. Julianna is scared to let her heart love again so quickly after what happened with her husband but Devlin shows her just how different he is from the bastard she married. Protecting her from her stalker leads to be more difficult than he thought when she is actively hiding things from him and running around without him. She is hiding her past from everyone afraid of what might happen not to her but to her sister and old friend and constant scapegoat in the last two books, Ethan. Devlin frankly doesn't care about her past he just wants her safe.

All three books are very good and a stand alone so it really doesn't matter where you start but I suggest reading them in order. I hope Ethan gets his own book *crossing fingers*.

ARC REVIEW Her Unexpected Hero by Melody Anne

Her Unexpected Hero by Melody Anne is a spinoff of her Billionaire Bachelor series so if you have missed those you can pick this up with no problem. I really enjoyed this book insta-lust that leads to true love. Melody Anne is such an easy author to read. If you like your heroes rich, an accidental pregnancy and a reluctant heroine this is a book for you.

Jackson Whitman sealed up his heart when he lost his wife and his daughter. Changing from his hometowns Fire Chief to billionaire he has no plans to marry ever again or have kids. Alyssa's modeling career is over and her manager/boyfriend has royally screwed her over stealing her money and spreading lies. Jackson and Alyssa are on the same flight back into the states, Jackson is intrigued by the beauty he sat next to waiting for the (what seems like forever) delayed flight, so that when they finally board he pays for her to upgrade her seat to the one next to him in first class. The journey from Paris to New York is full of sexual tension and lots of teasing. Upon landing Jackson invites Alyssa to his hotel room to spend New Years Eve with him. Still sore from her boyfriends betrayal Alyssa thinks it couldn't hurt, she needs something to remind her that she is still desirable and it's not like she will ever see him again...

Four months later and Jackson is still obsessing over Alyssa and how she just disappeared after the fantastic night they spent together. He never expected to find her working at his hometown bar. With the meddling grandparents trying to push Jackson and Alyssa together never realizing that they had already met comes to fruition only because Jackson is already obsessed and Alyssa is reluctant. Alyssa is scared to make any kind of commitment with Jackson because he flat out told her his story and that he never wanted to have kids again and here she is four months pregnant with Jackson baby. Alyssa's fear is what keeps her pushing Jackson away even though she is falling in love with him. Jackson is trying to convince everyone he only just cares for her. It does have a bit of a tear jerking ending but a sweet one.

ARC REVIEW The Perfect Homecoming by Julia London

This is part of a series is it essential that you read the other two, no; do I recommend it, YES! Julia London ties her Thrillseekers Anonymous series and Pine River series with Emma Tyler and Cooper Jessup. The series as a whole is great with difficult and realistic characters that are at times hard to like, but so worth it. This was a hard book for me to read not because it was bad but because it was so emotionally tolling it took a lot out of me. Emma is by her own admission is a bitch and I knew in the first book I would love her. She is in her own words “hard and flinty”; she has no filter and always speaks the truth, even when it is hurtful. If you don’t want the truth don’t ask Emma. Sometimes she doesn’t even realize just how hurtful she can be. Emma also suffers from Daddy issues, always seeking the attention from older men even if it makes her feel dirty and ashamed.

Cooper is co-owner of the extreme event planner and is feeling left out and hates the changes that have happened since all his other partners got married and had kids. When an old client asks him to retrieve a stolen item that his soon to be ex-wife is demanding to have back Cooper is hesitant but the other partners say hey money is money. So Cooper tracks down Emma, the clients a one-night stand who swiped a small trinket on her way out and is adamant that she did not take it. Cooper knows Emma he has met her before and what he knows about her doesn’t match up with what other people say about her. The antagonistic teasing between the two gets old it goes on way to long but when they finally gives in it is intense.

As Cooper spends time with her he realizes why she does what she does and even though he doesn’t like it he accepts her as she is but Emma is a tough person to love and even tougher when it comes to letting people love her. Other stuff happens like the three sisters finally bond and finally come to understand Emma. The lodestone of the series, Leo Kendrick, who has played a pivotal part in all the books has words of wisdom for Emma that helps her come to touch with what she needs. There is so much I could write about this book and this series instead I will say if you do read it read the whole series and keep a box a tissue close by one more thing Emma is a hard pill to swallow and not everyone is going to like her but for me it was everyone else’s reactions to her that pissed me off, yes even Cooper. I loved the series as much as I hate to crying this series is truly good.

ARC REVIEW Highland Guard by Hannah Howell

Book 20 in Hannah Howell's Murray series, and I just jumped right in, and I wish I hadn't. It wasn't bad but the majority of Harcourt and Annys' relationship takes place before the book. I don't know if the events of their relationship took place during another book but it was at first vague and then it was redundant. I had a hard time finishing it, it had a bunch of filler stuff could have been left out.

Lady Annys MacQueen needs help, she didn't want to ask Harcourt Murray for help but her husband told her if she needed help to ask him. Harcourt is the father of Annys' son and child who was being raised by another man, it was the hardest thing Harcourt has ever done. Harcourt was asked by Annys' husband, Daniel, to father an heir he couldn't get himself. Now that he is dead and the four year old child is now the Laird of the keep and everyone knows the truth about the child but because he was named Daniel's son and recognized by Crown and Court as his son everyone accepts him. Everyone except a malevolent and vindictive relative ready to smear Annys' name and take the keep by force if necessary. Nobody want him he would be bad for the people and the land so Harcourt and some of his men are training men how to fight and protect little Benet. Annys feels guilty for having feelings for Harcourt just having buried her husband but she never stopped loving Harcourt, and she is a little hardheaded about it. Harcourt when he realizes his true feelings isn't going to easily walk away again, but he has his own keep and she needs to stay there with Benet.

The ending was predictable and I really wish I had more of Harcourt and Annys before the events of this book. It was just ehh.

ARC REVIEW Touch & Go by Mira Lyn Kelly

Touch & Go is book two in Mira Lyn Kelly's Dare to love series can definitely read as a stand alone. This book was recommended by a favorite author of mine so I thought why not, I was not disappointed. This is a friends to lovers book with the aggravatingly oblivious hero and love sick heroine. I enjoyed the smooth writing and the easy of which I became emotionally attached to the characters the story was very emotional but not so much you are crying the whole time, but it does get to you.

Ava and Sam have been best friends since they were kids. Sam found a second family more loving and caring than his own on the other side of the river with Ava's family. Ever since Sam showed up one day out of the blue and played a game of hide 'n go seek Ava has been in love with him. Twenty years later Ava has hidden her love for Sam from everyone keeping it buried inside never being able to talk about it ever. One little favor to help Ava shake a guy who just won't take a hint Sam poses as her boyfriend which leads to a kiss; a kiss that shook them both to the core. Now that Sam has had a taste he wants more and they agree to a secret friends with benefits relationship. But the more they do the harder it is for Ava to hide her feelings. It gets to the point that they feel it's best to go their separate ways and pretend it didn't happen. Ava is having a hard time of it and decides it would be easier if she left. Now Sam must face his feelings and when I say he is aggravatingly oblivious it is so emotionally painful to read, made me wish he was real so I could slap him and yell at him "What do you think Love is?" Needless to say it has a very satisfying HEA.

ARC REVIEW Snowed In by Sarah Title

Sarah Title's book three in her Southern Comfort series is save to be read as a stand alone. This is a really cute and quick novella to read. It's nice for when you are stuck in the house snuggling up with a nice hot drink because the characters are stuck inside too snuggling with each other. A short and not so sweet story about a woman who just got dumped by her boyfriend meeting the perfect guy in the freezer section of the supermarket.

Maureen just got dumped by her boyfriend and she finds herself crying over the ice cream in the freezer section in the grocery store when a gorgeous stranger makes her feel better with a kiss hot enough to melt the ice cream. Now Maureen is determined not to feel sorry for herself she leaves mister gorgeous dumbfounded and wondering who she is. Gavin is confounded by the crying beauty whose kiss has been burned in his memory, he has gone back to the store trying to find her again but to no avail. Finally two weeks later Maureen is still not over her ex and Gavin is helping out his eccentric elderly neighbor they run into each other again. Maureen after getting some unsolicited advice from a kooky old lady she agrees to Gavin when he asks her for a date. Their date goes very well the chemistry between them is outstanding and even though it's not something she does she agrees that him driving him her to his home would be safer with the snow storm blowing in faster than they thought. Soon they are trapped under the snow and only each other to keep each other warm. But this never go as planned and things happen but can Maureen and Gavin work things out so they can get their HEA?

ARC REVIEW Falling for Jillian by Kristen Proby

Book three is Kristen Proby's Love Under the Big Sky series and luckily can be as a stand alone, but why would you Kristen Proby is pretty awesome. Zach and Jillian are a hot couple, with enough baggage that they have stayed away from each other since their one night stand months ago, but no more. Kristen Proby has written an emotional (but not too emotional, it didn't make me cry which is good because I hate crying) and hopeful in a way that gives you hope that no matter what you went through in the past there's hope for your future.

Jillian left a good job when she left L.A. she also left her cheating husband. She needed her family and friends and her hometown to comfort her in her hurt. After trying for years to get pregnant she has finally given up hope and her hurt digs a little deeper when her cheating ex tells her his new wife is pregnant.

Zach is trying to make it up to his son, during his time in the military his wife neglected their son and left her boyfriends hit him while she did nothing to stop them. When Zach found out the divorce went quickly and made sure she signed away all her parental rights. Zach should stay away from Jillian but the attraction has done nothing but increase over time.

Zach and Jillian finally give in to their desire and eventually make it an official "Boyfriend/Girlfriend" status. As their feelings for each other grow Jillian also falls for Zach's son and dog. You can probably guess what happens, but even with the slightly predictable troupe it is still a joy to read even if it tugs the heartstrings.
